OT: Maryland loses it's top two receivers to broken legs

Submitted by ChalmersE on
Maybe this is semi ot, since we're talking about a 2014 East Division opponent. In any event, a year after losing four (!) quarterbacks to season ending injuries, yesterday Maryland lost it's top two wide receivers to broken legs in a loss to Wake Forest. One of the receivers was Stefon Diggs, whom many of you will remember from his recruiting dalliance with Michigan a couple of years ago.

Here's the Post's article on the subject - LINK

Regarding Deon Long and Stefon Diggs:

"Long broke his tibia and fibula, two bones in the lower leg, while blocking on a running play early in the second quarter. Diggs suffered a fractured fibula in the fourth quarter. Both will have surgery this week. "

Best of luck to both of them in their recoveries.

That is absolutely awful. I love football, but the number of injuries is really starting to make me think. I don't know if there are more, but because they're publicized more it sure feels like it.

Hope they both have speedy recoveries. I don't know much about the other kid but Diggs is a MONSTER player. Reminds me a little of Desean Jackson. Still would've loved to have had him at Michigan.

A pretty logical conclusion, though I doubt there are any facts to support it. If you can't target up high, you will logically have to target lower. It is silly to assume that every hit that would have been a head shot will now be a perfect form tackle. There will be more people tackling low, so the chance for leg injuries should rise.

I almost feel bad for Edsall. He hasn't done well there, but he hasn't had anything resembling a healthy team, either. They looked pretty impressive this year until they ran into the FSU buzzsaw. That loss looks a lot less bad after watching what FSU did to Clemson last night on the road. I don't think this team will be the easy win that some people are assuming (as long as they aren't starting a LB at QB, obvs).
