OT: Lions undefeated

Submitted by GoBlue96 on August 11th, 2023 at 10:35 PM

Lions start out 1-0 in the preseason. Adrian Martinez leads 6 minute come from behind drive to seal it right out of Harbaugh’s playbook.  Jamo had a few drops which is concerning.  Gibbs and look great.  Sudfeld looked like 💩.

The 3rd quarter “safe space” Fox 2 weather interruption was maddening…

Last time I remember the Lions going undefeated in the preseason, we went defeated in the regular season. as defeated as what is possibly allowed.

Have no idea how good they will be this year, predictions are extremely high from the pundits…but should at least have an entertaining product on the field, regardless of w/l.

Lions are cursed, my assertion is that the ford family had something to do with jimmy hoffa and the Detroit mob knows this, and is largely responsible for point spread/win/loss manipulation and the inexplicable ways the football team messes up every.single.year..

"Jamo had a few drops which is concerning"

My f'ed up mind kept flip-flopping between "well, at least he has 6 weeks to get his shit together" and "I bet if he had money on that route he would have caught it" haha

I think Devin Gardner made a good point about his drops.  Jamo is used to being wide-ass-open all the time.  He's not used to a DB breathing down his neck every time he has to make a catch.  Once he gets used to that, he'll be more consistent.

The big drop he had on the go route, Banks was on his hip and probably spooked him a bit.  Notice how he made the catch on the 2 point conversion later with the DB right behind him?  He made the mental adjustment.  He also got lit up on the out route he caught.  Now just need to see it consistently.

Your / maybe DG's phrasing sounds like this is guaranteed; aren't contested catches more of a skill than an adjustment? To me that's like saying "Shaq only shot 40% from the line at LSU, he just needs to be more consistent in the NBA"

If every receiver had this ability it'd be pretty easy to get the best talent, just sign the most athletic. But ultimately you don't know who's got it until they can perform for 1 or 2 years

That was fun to watch! The roster looks like it has a lot of talent. Branch looks to be the real deal. Of course Kirby Joseph comes up with a late game int. Both the Okwaras came to play, Cominski played well. Heck, all the DEs played well, are we going to keep them all? Bring on preseason 2! The countdown to KC has begun!

Lions preseason, I.e., the few weeks the lions show everything to future competitors to win meaningless games and troll a fanbase into buying more season tickets, followed by many more weeks of showing exact same things used to win preseason games in the regular season where the opponents’ keys on said things produce opportunities for game changing plays and LLLLLLIONS lose until…wait for it…actually NEXT YEAR is THE YEAR.

Ot the mob controls the team.

Your pick.

Every so often, I pull up the '91 divisional round game at the Silverdome on YouTube and let my mind drift. Hearing Summerall and Madden, watching Erik Kramer light up the Cowboys secondary, the Melvin Jenkins pick six, then Barry's incredible TD run as the capper...

And I think to myself, what a wonderful world...

What’s more baffling is Gary danielson, the former lions tackling dummy, responsible for more losses than any lions QB I ever watched and was responsible for more bad decision making than I’ve ever seen on a football field, is somehow an SEC shill who gets paid plenty of $ to dispense his crucial experience and vast insight on playing QB every Saturday, and the superior quality of even the most lowly SEC school

Not that the Lions are anywhere close to as bad as they were in 2008, I find it interesting that the NFL's other 0-16 team, the 2017 Browns, were also 4-0 in the preseason that year.

IDGAF about the win. The potential I saw with those top 4 picks is very exciting and that's the point of pre-season. Gibbs is as advertised, a potential game changer every time he touches the ball. Laporta makes me say Hockenson who? Campbell was solid and Branch looks like a steal.

Houston is legit and almost unblockable and Romeo was the dude in this game. Very solid effort and I'm sure the Lions coaching staff were pleased to see how much depth they have.

2 years ago, if we played @ KC in the season opener the Lions would be getting 17 points in Vegas. I don't expect them to win, but it's at least realistic now.

Agreed ... Gibbs is going to be a holy terror coming out of that backfield and he looked serviceable on his blocking too. Imagine pulling four immediate legit starters out of a draft like that. Not very Lions like, but a great achievement by Holmes, who did take some second guessing on these picks (or at least where he took them in the draft order).

Sudfeld didn’t look great, but I do wonder if some of it was just a game plan to force the ball in to Jameson … who did not have a good game at all.

Forgot to mention buy one get one free Big Mac’s today because of the interception. I guess these are the perks you get with a dominant NFL team…

What I’m starting to see in the Lions is some depth. Didn’t see a lot of starters play and I was okay with that. Saw the draft picks do some good things (Campbell in particular). They should be fun to watch. Been around 90 years and have been awful for most of those.
