OT: Favorite TV show as a kid

Submitted by Gil From Omaha on
What was your favorite TV show as a child? One you still remember? I just found out all Power Rangers series are on Netflix, so it brought me to this question. And mine was Power Rangers!

My favorite show was Voltron.  When Power Rangers came out it was very difficult to like it...It was like they were taking a crap on something I loved.  That is just my perspective.  Lots of my younger friends loved Power Rangers though.  To each their own.

I hate to break it to you, but the Japanese source material for Power Rangers significantly predates the japanese source material for Voltron.  Voltron was just localized first.

Both of them are part of the long line of "super robot" fiction in Japanese culture that stretches back to the 50s.

Changed as I aged. I'd say fraggle rock and Today's Special at first, then smurfs Scooby do and he-man, then GI Joe, transformers, ducktales and gummy bears. I also secretly wanted to be magnum pi. I still do, actually.. I had favorites with my 'rents though. Ernie Harwell while watching tigers with the dad, prarie home companion with the mom, and miss Marple and poirot with both.

I like the scrambled one that made 'woman' sounds... and ocassionally you could see some breast...

the hours spent watching for a couple great moments... well great if you are 12.

A couple of sports ones I watched as a kid were the Baseball Bunch with Johnny Bench and on Sunday evenings I would stay up late to watch the George Michael Sports Machine.  Since we did not have cable, it was like the sports center show for me.

My favorite 80s/90s sitcoms

A little surprised by the lack of popularity for 90s sitcoms. Here are some of my favorites:

Family Matters
Fresh Prince of Bel Air (I probably watched every episode)
Full House
Sanford and Son
Saved By the Bell

Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, All That, Powerpuff Girls, Boy Meets World, 90210, etc. And lots of reruns: Cosby, Fresh Prince, Roseanne, Designing Women, Golden Girls, etc.

I used to run the website for Disney's One Saturday Morning.  I don't see it on anyone's list except a couple mentions of "Doug."   *sniff*

Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, M*A*S*H and Different Strokes were my favorites along with Thundar the Barbarian and cartoons.  The old westerns, Lone Ranger, Cisco Kid and Tarzan re-runs on WKBD-50 were awesome too.  I think Sonny Elliott was the host.
