OT- Favorite Karate flick

Submitted by Eastside Maize on

On this Father's Day I thought about my uncle. He was a strong father figure for me while I was a kid. He introduced me to UM football, Savage Sword of Conan comic books and karate flicks. 3 of my favorite Karate flicks are Super Ninjas, Shaolin vs. Lama and Ninja Scroll (animated). What are your favorite Karate flicks, MGoBlog?

I'm far from an expert, so I can't claim, only ask, but beyond the names themselves, the style behind karate versus kung fu movies always seemed very different to me, yet this thread appears to categorize them as 'same.'

Maybe it's not sacrilege, but is that normal?

Fav karate movie is the Karate Kid, not the new one, that's a kung fu movie, even though it's called the karate kid for some unexplained reason, also it's completely terrible.. My favorite martial arts movies would be probably Way of the Dragon, or the Legend of the Drunken Master. Great choreography and variety in both. Should probably throw my hat in for TMNT 1and 2 as well.

All of your answers are wrong. "But guthrie", you say to yourself, "it's an opinion, not a 'right or wrong' thing."

To which I reply that the greatest Karate movie ever is also simply the greatest movie ever: Gymkata

Definitely Bloodsport.

3 Ninjas? I think that's what it was called? The three kids of a FBI guy and their grandpa gave them masks and nicknames? I liked that when I was a kid.

Power Rangers FTW!

Anything with the king of martial arts is the bomb! Also, I'm a big 80's kid and I loved Bloodsport and Kickboxer. I think what makes a good martial arts movie is not only a good main character, but it also has to have a great bad guy. Tong Po and Chung Li were excellent bad guys.

Last year I was at a Bruce Lee museum exhibit (at the Wing Luke in Seattle) and there were some old photographs of him giving lessons--at the small city park directly across the street from my house. So that's good.
