I really wanted to "hate" Peyton Manning because of the Fulmer Coaches' Poll nonsense and because he was Tom Brady's rival for so long.  But this SNL skit brought me around - and since I saw this I've come to appreciate what a masterful QB (and funny bastard) he is.

If I'm the Fords, this is the news I've been waiting for! I would absolutely LOVE IT if the Lions got Shanahan! The system that he likes to run wold be perfect here in Detroit. He has all the right tools to be successful here. Fire Schwartz, get Shanahan, let him decied on his own staff, and draft defense! And maybe one more solid OL.

FWIW the Chud firing has the city of Cleveland in absolute shock.  WKNR, our all sports radio station, pre-empted their normal ESPN feed this morning and has devoted the entire morning to analysis of what the Hell just happened.

General consensus as of now is Chud got sideways with Banner and was made a sacrificial lamb to blame for the season's failing.  Haslam was seriously pissed yesterday (stormed out of the owners box with 6 minutes to go in the game) and for those of you who don't know it yet - Jimmy H would love to be Jimmy Jones or Daniel Snyder if those damn feds would just leave him alone.  The "official" word is that they know they had made a mistake with Chud almost immediately after hiring him (he was about their fifth or sixth choice remember) and were looking to let him go almost from the very start.

I think he got royally screwed in a power play.  Seemed like a decent guy who was a decent first year coach and learning plus the players loved him.  Sure hope we've got magic up our sleeves and I dont mean Josh McDaniels for God's sake.

Sadly I think you are right.  FWIW here is the latest Browns "wish list" for their next HC:

Josh "Tebow is a first rounder" McDaniels

BoB

Jim MotherFucking Swartz

Ray "Benedict Arnold" Horton

As a Browns fan I can only say the future is so bright I gotta wear shades.  Quite the who's-who of coaches wouldnt you say?

Every mock draft that says "Pick #2 St. Louis Rams (via Washington)" makes me a little more dead inside, and I'm sure that was a big part of snyder's decision.

Of the last 4 redskins coaches, 3 were way over the hill (schottenheimer, gibbs, and shanahan) and one had never been a head coach or even coordinator in the nfl before we hired him (Jim Zorn).  Hopefully Snyder gets his head out of his ass and finds someone who's got at least some experience as a head coach, but isn't living off past successes elsewhere.

My guess is they go the college route.

His career regular-season record is 200-126-1, and if it weren't for John Elway and a horrible fumble would have gotten the lowly Browns to the Super Bowl at least once. He had some very good teams in KC and San Diego, but his post-season record was always the kicker.

When he was with the Redskins in 2001 he was 58, which is on the old side, but not so old that it's impossible to be successful with the right organization. The problem for the Redskins is that they've got an owner who challenges William Clay Ford for stupidity.

the Ford's and Schwartz is affectionately referred to locally as dumb, dumb, dumb, dumber and dumbest (chose which of the knuckleheads is which). The ownership of the Lions has proven over decades that incompentency is acceptable. It would be nice to see fans stay home and send a message with their wallets. Snagging good players with high draft picks and free agency provides marginal results under the ownership and coaching staff's incompetence. The lack of discipline was a problem from the beginning of the current coach's tenure; the TitusYoung debacle is symbolic of the inability of the entire Lion's institution to understand how to instill class and discipline in the culture of the team. Schwartz is an arrogant goofball. I wish the Ford's would sell the team to someone or a group that understands how to build and maintain a successful program.

The three gone already are not surprises, though I do think Frazier got screwed a bit given the lack of offensive talent save AP on that team.  Schwartz will stick around, which is depressing.

The thing is Coughlin isn't going anywhere, unless he surprisingly decides to retire. The team played strong in the 2nd half after falling behind 0-6. Yes, they missed the playoffs the last 2 years, but Coughlin is a good coach.

I have always been a big Schwartz guy but this season...he might get the sack for that. Or they might just keep him around. This is a team that did make the playoffs a few years ago. They aren't THAT bad. I would want him out based on this season, but I can see why they'd keep him around.

obviously u don't watch this team. even the years they've won the superbowl, either start slow and finish strong or start strong and falter down the stretch. his voice has become stale in that locker room and it's time to go in another direction. good coaches get fired and his superbowl wins shouldnt give him a life time contract.
