New 2019 Commit Tyrece Woods, What Numbers!
Steve Wiltfong article/interview on newly committed Tyrece Woods (6'2", 255):
“I turned some heads running a 4.65 40 back to back and I had a 4.2 short shuttle.”
(on the decision to go to Michigan) “It was a dream come true,”
“Coach Brown and Coach Mattison expect nothing but plays to be made,”
Now locked in on having a special senior season with his college decision behind him...
Woods said he’s hit 225-pounds on the bench press 26 times. He’s a 500-pound squat guy.
“He’s a worker,” Crowell continued. “They’re getting a worker. He brings his lunch pail to work every day.”
He’s a tweener as a prospect, does he stay at end or blossom into a three technique? Harbaugh, Brown, Mattison and Washington want the opportunity to mold him and find out.
Article from WolverineWire:
“The coaches there (Michigan) were most consistent with me,” Woods said. “We never lost touch with each other. From calls to text, the coaches said they liked me, watched my film and wanted me on-campus.”
On the field, Michigan plans to use Woods anywhere from the 3 technique to the defensive end position. Then, the coaching staff will make a decision on where he fits best.
“It really doesn’t matter to me where I play,” Woods said. “I can make an impact wherever I wind up on the field. I’m an athlete; I just have a bigger frame.”
“He just said I was very underrated and can’t wait to get to work with me,” Woods said of his conversation with (2019 SDE/OT, Chris) Hinton.
The game against the Nittany Lions will be Woods’ official visit. He will not visit any other schools.
Woods will sign with Michigan in December and enroll early at the university.
“With the rankings, I really don’t care,” Woods said. “I know what I can bring to the table, which is being strong and quick off the ball. Nobody knows about my speed because I’m big.”

The key will be maintaining those numbers as he adds weight, but 255 is heavier than I thought he was (I thought someone in the committmen post said he was 225).

Yeah he was last year when evaluated. He's up to 255 now.
I work with a guy who's son is on his team, and was an assistant coach (Crawford) he said he is very, very hard to block. He said Dobbs struggles with him quite a bit and even wins his fair share of one on ones. Thinks we are getting a guy that will get a huge bump in ranking later. He's an MSU fan and is disappointed he didn't follow his other teammates.

LOL. Zero power 5 offers.

SMH... Your a turd. I'm willing to bet if he out plays his ranking...we here at this board will hear crickets out of you.
August 13th, 2018 at 4:42 PM ^
I'm willing to bet he won't.

Hey Alfred Einstein, if he plays even one game for UofM he'll outplay his current 2000+ ranking: you think that's a good bet?
Poor Vickie :(

You are a real dbag to shit on a 16-17 year old kid who is getting the chance to go to one of the greatest educational institutions in the world. Look in the mirror and think about what your missing and go find it......somewhere else

Ohio’s taint troll?
August 13th, 2018 at 6:58 PM ^
Nope. Bluey/Maizen. Same old bullshit; now in a new package!
August 13th, 2018 at 4:17 PM ^
Not only is finding these monsters by doing more than perusing ESPN's top 250 an actual sign the coaches are doing there job, but more importantly in five years we get to say "the Michigan difference took a 3-4 star and made him a first round draft pick, imagine what we could do with you..."
August 13th, 2018 at 5:54 PM ^
You're getting lazier with your troll names, Maizen/Bluey.

Looks like Shawn L. Martin is gracing the board with his presence yet again. We're so lucky.

That Twitter account is both sad and hilarious in it's manic mood swings.

Who is this someone better you would be pressing for?
If you read the full OP, Woods has been in touch with Hinton (the highest rated recruit currently committed) and Hinton seems to be ok about having him as a teammate.
August 13th, 2018 at 4:43 PM ^
Welp that settles it.
Seriously what do you expect Hinton to say?
August 13th, 2018 at 4:56 PM ^
I’d expect him to say that you’re an asshole. And I’d expect him to be right.
August 13th, 2018 at 6:50 PM ^
I'm thinking that left a mark.

At DT they are still in on Rodas Johnson (CBs to Wisconsin).
At SDE they are still pursuing Karlaftis (Unless Brohm leaves he's going to Purdue).
I don't necessarily disagree on the idea that they could get Woods later in the cycle, nor do I think accepting his commitment now would mean another higher ranked guy doesn't come to Michigan because of him.
August 13th, 2018 at 5:17 PM ^
Michigan likes Woods more than Johnson. They moved on from him after seeing him during camp season.
Think any other DTs this class will be DEs who get huge (perhaps Hinton but could be others). That seems to be Michigan's plan for filling half of the DT depth chart based on Kemp, Marshall, Jeter and DIB.
August 13th, 2018 at 5:43 PM ^
I've always thought Karlaftis was essentially a pipe dream, given his extensive family connections to Purdue.
I have the same question about waiting on Woods till later in the cycle—seems like he's the kind of recruit who would be eminently flippable late in the game.
August 13th, 2018 at 6:22 PM ^
Karlaftis has said (paraphrasing) that so long as Brohm is at Purdue, he's going there (inferring that means if Brohm leaves his commitment is gone too).
Generally agreed on the second part of your comment.

Don't you have yet another scandal related to Zach Smith to make excuses for?
August 13th, 2018 at 6:35 PM ^
Because this isn't the NFL Draft
August 13th, 2018 at 4:58 PM ^
You had me at "lunch pail."
LUNCH PAIL!
August 13th, 2018 at 5:36 PM ^
Weird, usually that means "white guy" :D
August 13th, 2018 at 5:59 PM ^
He's a big kid who, if those numbers hold up, could be a plus athlete at the tackle position. Apparently someone compared him favorably to Kemp, which isn't a bad comp considering he's played since his freshman year and should factor more into the rotation this year as well on the defensive line.
August 13th, 2018 at 6:31 PM ^
And what the hell has Kemp done here that's so damn special.
August 13th, 2018 at 6:36 PM ^
What have you done that makes us think your opinion is special?
August 14th, 2018 at 10:56 AM ^
You mean play since he was a true freshman and, based on early accounts, working himself into the rotation on one of the best defensive lines in the country?
I look forward to your next account once this one gets squashed.
