Michigan vs Ohio State across all sports in 2019-20: Michigan wins

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on May 13th, 2020 at 7:43 PM

It was a rout in 2018-19 with Michigan having a 34-13-1 record head-to-head against Ohio State in the 24 different sports they faced off in.

The rivalry that transcends sport was more competitive in 2019-20.

If you cut off 2018-19 at the point the Covid-shortened 2019-20 season ended (March 12), Michigan had a 19-5-1 edge last year.

This year it was 20-14 Michigan.

Fall sports (save one.......sigh) were dominant once again, posting a 12-1 record against OSU.

Winter is where things tightened up with a 7-7 record.

What Spring Michigan teams actually got to play against Ohio State were 1-6. But all of those contests took place before February 8 and all but one were by Men's Golf and Women's Golf.

I think Michigan would've flexed on OSU in the Spring as we did in 2018-19, as Baseball, Softball, W Lax and Rowing were vastly superior to their enemy's squads. M Lax not so much but you could say the same thing last year and we upset top-10 ranked OSU at home.

Michigan-Ohio State would've FOR SURE taken place in Baseball, M Golf, W Golf, M Gymnastics, W Gymnastics, Hockey, M Lacrosse, W Lacrosse, Rowing, Softball, M Tennis and W Tennis.

We could've righted wrongs against them in the B1G MBB Tournament and in Hockey as we were scheduled to face them in the B1G Hockey Tournament Semifinals on March 15.

Yeah, we’re pretty awesome at lots of sports and academics, too. But that one fall sport is kind of a big deal and the basis for the whole rivalry. Saying, “You won football, but we totally dominated in Ultimate Frisbee,” is a little brother move.

Except I'm not doing that and just sharing the overall accomplishments of all athletes wearing the Maize and Blue.

Look, I get it. Outside of Football and Men's Basketball, there's niche fanbases for our other 29 sports.

That doesn't mean people have to come and shit on this and disrespect those athletes or those of us who enjoy all Michigan Wolverine teams.

Yes, you are.  It's just that you're too blind to see it.

That doesn't mean people have to come and shit on this and disrespect those athletes or those of us who enjoy all Michigan Wolverine teams.

Nobody's disrespecting the athletes.  I'm happy for them.  If there's to be a competition between Michigan and OSU, I'm pulling for Michigan.  But putting this together in the aftermath of a horrific showing in the sports that 99.99% of the fanbase care about is undeniably a little brother move.

"But, but, but... we kicked your butt in ping pong!"

They don’t care. They kicked the ever loving shit out of Michigan in football. That’s the only result that matters to them. The only one that will ever matter to them.

We could beat them by 50 in every other sport for the next 50 years, and as long as they beat us in football, they would. not. care.

I don’t say that to devalue other sports. Really, I don’t. This is just a reality.

Okay, but I'm not posting this on their site and saying "haha we have a better athletic department than you".

We all know which one holds the most weight. That doesn't mean the other 30 don't exist. And OSU does care. If they didn't, it would be like MSU who literally does not care and invests zero dollars in their "non-rev" sports.

I don't care if it's tiddlywinks. Beat ohio and I'll drink to that.

No one is saying the other sports don’t exist. Or at least I’m not. I’m just saying that I think you’d be hard pressed to find an OSU fan who really cares that Michigan beat them in soccer or field hockey. Besides of course the players themselves, the parents of those players, and the OSU staff, your average OSU fan couldn’t care less.

They might care about losing to us in basketball under certain conditions, like if there are conference title implications on the line or if we somehow meet them in the tourney, but the rest is whatever to them. Get the W in football, and literally nothing else matters. If you think that’s not true, maybe we just know different OSU fans.

Not saying thinking this way is right. The other Michigan teams work their ass off to beat OSU and in a fair world, they would be equally recognized for that. But it’s not so here we are.

“OSU diving team put on sanctions for illegal Tattoos for speedos”... and in the dual meet, controversy arises after an OSU diver comes up “slightly short” of the ideal 16” splash, but officials decide to give it to him anyway... leading to an OSU victory and mass Michigan fan discontent.. who knew diving could be so fun!?!?

I think that this season has been successful in swimming. I like this kind of sport and very happy about the results. I think that swimming positively affect our body and health in general. Recently, I've found https://studymoose.com/swimming resource with free essays for student. I can say that there is a lot of interesting info. In any case, I also go to the swimming pool, but I'm not a professional.

We should leave the Big Ten in football, go independent, and take OSU off the schedule just to see how many heads explode in Columbus.

I have been saying for two years that UM should leave the conference, simply so I don’t have to experience losing to OSU anymore. What is the point of playing football if we cannot defeat OSU? We’ll never win a championship if we continually lose to them. Join the Big 12 or ACC.

We get an extra loss tacked on for winning Risk.  And Football counts as 50 pts, and is not equal to the other sports, so we really have lost to Ohio State.
