Michigan-Belleville problems cost us 5 star Damon Payne

According to Sam on the Inside Michigan Recruiting podcast latest episode, the tension between the coaches from Michigan and Belleville “for sure” has had a negative effect on Damon Payne’s recruitment and is why he is leaving MI to play college football.

Payne is a 5 star #1 DT nationally, #1 player in MI. Consensus seems to be that he’s heading down South but OSU is listed as warm on his 247 profile.

So, did Belleville decide to send Seldon to UM to act as a spy and give them inside info on Harbaugh and the program, so they could use that against UM and direct the rest of their kids somewhere else? A college-high school coaching feud that steers players away from an "elite" school is pretty far fetched. That star players would buy into that feud, putting their own feelings/agenda aside is even farther-fetched.

This is probably true, but if a kid really wanted to play at UM he would.  I'm sure there antics of grown men don't help, but kids go places for lots of reasons and at this point getting worked up about it doesn't help

You are parsing Sam's words. He said Damon Payne wasn't interested in Michigan because of his coach, not that we were sure to get him. He still would have needed to be recruited. There are many variables in a recruitment but there is no guarantee that even if his coach loved Michigan he would have chosen to Go Blue.

This is certainly a tough position to be in but it is on Harbaugh to try and build a bridge. And while sending Nua was a nice gesture,  i am afraid only Harbaugh reaching out and apologizing himself can fix this.

This seems to be a media ploy to move the news ticker in an otherwise completely newsworthy dead period of Michigan football.  Wasn’t there a story a few weeks ago or a month ago that the ginormous 6’7 340lb Offensive tackle from Belleville was pushing an suv down the street trying to get Michigan coaches attention for a recruiting video?

Correct me if’ I’m wrong but Ramier Lewis from Belleville put the video out on MLive with the article saying he wants Michigan.

I’m sure there is some issues with Crowell but what’s the issue that he would steer top players away while others like Seldon or Lewis want Michigan?

Belleville is arguably the most talented team in the state. Belleville is also severely lacking in coaching department. Their team was lazy and lacked discipline last year and that’s been the case. There is no reason Brighton should of controlled the game like they did. BTW Payne better get a motor and fast!

Crowell can try and lock Michigan out but that hurts Belleville more than Michigan. A lot of those Detroit kids that magically transfer to Belleville will stop if they know that school isn’t allowed in.

Also just get in good at Rouge because Parker will start getting more of those Detroit kids than Crowell will. Watch out for grade issues though. Rouge isn’t exactly a stickler on transcripts

I had said that before.  If it’s known Crowell will lock Michigan out then there is nothing stopping those kids from transferring to another school.  They should start transferring esp if Crowell is going to interfere with their recruitment rather than help.

I’m surprised so many of these guys followed Crowell and didn’t stick to Cass. TW may be a huge Michigan fan and obviously he played for Michigan, but he’ll let anyone in to recruit his guys. He wants what is best for them. Even if that means OSU or somewhere else.

Breaking news: if he committed to Michigan, all the scouting sites (Rivals, Scout, etc.) were prepared to bump him up to a 6 star.
