Rusty start, whistle-happy refs, no threes, no Mo, no MAAR, bad free throw shooting, went from up 6 to overtime . . . yet we still won.

That's how you advance in tournaments.

All the games aren't going to be pretty.  They aren't all going to go your way.

Sometimes you just have to power through it.

Iowa only scored 31 points in the final 25 minutes of the game after scoring 40 in the first half. Tremendous turnaround by the d!

OK, so the refs weren't great, but if we managed to hit 40% of our 3's we'd have 15 more points. And if we could shoot free throws at even average rates we'd have 5 more points there. So we could be +20 if we executed better. The complaints about the reffing seem a little hollow when we don't handle our own business.

Is it just my bias, or does Michigan routinely get blatantly hosed by referring? It seems too consistent to be random it seems like the hurtful bad calls always significantly higher than the bad calls in our favor. I’m not a “refs are always the reason my team loses” kind of guy. I’m also a UVA fan and rarely complain the officiating.

MAAR averages 1.8 fouls committed per 40 minutes. Only 76 players in all of NCAA foul at a lower rate than that. Today he fouled out in 22 minutes, Wagner in 16. At least 2 of MAAR's fouls were total ticky-tack calls. Another 2 he was basically hit in the chest and the call could have been called offensive. Can't remember the last.

Just, WTF was with the refs today? Normally when I think the refs are bad, it goes both ways. This was the most lopsided called game I've seen this year.

Part of it is credit to Iowa -- they clearly figured out what the referees were doing and put themselves in position to get those phantom calls.  (Recall the Iowa player shoving Rahkman 8 feet across the floor to try to get him his fifth, and then pouting when it didn't work).

Mostly I think it was just a lot of fouls called on both sides -- Michigan made as many free throws as Iowa attempted (!) -- but that Michigan's came in clumps time-wise and weren't as spread out personnel-wise as Iowa's were.

shooting is what it is and its not going to get better overnight..SO..we are going to have to win without..Easier said than done..However...at no time in the last 3 minutes of a tight game should the ball be in Matthews or Zs hands...gotta be Duncan..Has to be

Too bad the boys had to beat the refs today, as well as Iowa. Hope poor free throw shooting doesn’t bite us in the NCAA Tourney. Can’t imagine they’ll get that tough a whistle out of conference. Is it just me or do the Big Ten refs (FB & BB) seem to have it out for Michigan? Bugs the shit out of me.

You know Iowa got a lot of calls when McCaffrey never had one of the patented freak-outs that he normally has 8-20 times a game. He did seem mildly upset that they called a foul on the guy that block MAAR 5 yards down the court.

It's the same 3 as today is it? Hopefully that crew isn't locked in to that 2nd game or something all week, or until the Semi's.

As a basketball official myself, I usually give the refs the benefit of the doubt, but they were bad today.  It happens.  I have had bad games myself.  When the game is over there are a certain handful of calls/plays I wish I could have over.

The crew today had more than a handful of bad calls, which surprised me, because those guys have been pretty solid when we have had them ref our games before.  They just had a really poor day.
