[LOCKED?] Unvaccinated Trey Burke loses game check work $34K

Submitted by Yo_Blue on November 4th, 2021 at 3:37 PM

I put this out there for strictly informational purposes and not as an endorsement or disagreement with vaccines. I hope this doesn't turn into something that ends up getting locked or deleted.

After watching Jordan Poole light it up last night, I checked the Maverick-Heat boxscore to see how a few of my other favorite Wolverines did. I was surprised to see Burke's name missing among what looked like a full roster.  A little digging found out the he is unvaccinated and had recently missed two required testing sessions resulting in him not being eligible for the game.

[Locking this up.  Likely to eventually be  removed by either me or another mod, but I'm out on a bike ride and don't feel inclined to stop long enough to review it thoroughly at this moment. -rob f]

I mean that’s why it’s baffling. You choose not to get the vaccine, okay. That opinion (doing research on FB/TikTok is not factual research; it’s an uneducated opinion) is refuted by factual science, but it’s your decision. As a result of your decision, you’re required to undergo daily testing. But then you choose to miss the required testing? Idiotic decision making

He says as he posts troll bait.

I'm NOT trying to go political here -- so don't interpret it that way.

But I'll NEVER understand why an athlete, particularly one at the professional level -- be it a Burke, or a Rodgers -- wouldn't want to take precautions to avoid something as serious as COVID. And I'm not even talking life or death here. I personally know a couple of COVID long-haulers who are still suffering ill-effects many months after the fact.

In a profession where your body, and your health, is absolutely ESSENTIAL to success, it just doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

Come on now man; you already know the answer to this and were just being rhetorical.

It's the same reason that people don't believe the CDC/WHO or their Physician that the vaccine is safe and effective, but they do not believe TruthSeeker420 on TikTok or XxTruePatriorxX1776 on Twitter that the vaccine is dangerous.

Agreed 100%. "Your best ability is availability". Well, the rules make you a lot more available if you've had your jabs. So get your jabs.

And in terms of long haulers, Jonathon Toews missed an entire year. Granted the Hawks are a tire fire in 15 ways, but he missed the entire year last year with long Covid, contracted in Feb 2020 before it was widespread in North America.

Putting myself in their shoes, the science is pretty compelling that COVID antibodies are as effective as the COVID vaccine. Aaron Rodgers has the antibodies. Maybe Trey Burke does as well.

I can understand their thought process. You can throw a rock and hit a story about someone having a poor reaction to the COVID vaccine, why take the risk without any benefit?

When did he/they have it first? Like with the vaccine, boosters are being implemented to "re-up" the immune system's recognition.  A first, actual vaccine for either of them would do the same as the actual Covid-19  antibodies' "protection" potentially fades over time.  Also...I like Rodgers but his rhetoric of being immunized and now this happening is a big "what the fuck" Aaron.

Also...yes adverse reactions have happened.  Do we need to play the game of going into how many don't or haven't had bad reactions and how small a number it actually is?

Both of your points are wrong and misleading.  The rock to poor reaction is the worst.  Antibodies do protect for a very limited time while vaccines last significantly longer.  So, as effective is misleading and if the intent was misleading just wrong.

There were plenty of reasons to be *hesitant*.  But in November 2021 there are no rational reasons to not get the jab.  There is no more room for the goalposts to move.  The only reason not to get it (besides medical exemptions) is a toddler like reflexive “if you tell me to do something I won’t do it, no matter what” attitude.

I support the shot.  It’s certainly within his right to not get it.  Although at the very least he’s gotta adhere to the testing protocols for his and everyone’s safety.

On an unrelated note, $34k for 48 mins of work?  Yes please.

Since any vax thread is going to get locked or deleted I'll use this one to say that Aaron Rodgers is an idiot. That guy is just the worst.

Got my booster yesterday.  Can't believe people even take a slight chance of dying alone in a hospital suffocating.  Especially people with a family to support.

This news makes me lose a little bit of respect for Trey. And he is one of my all time favorite Michigan basketball players.

Good information to have out.  I'd almost lock this thread to save us from the inevitable argument, but it is telling that the leagues aren't messing around when it comes to these penalties.  That's real money being left on the table.

This is a great story from Defector's Chris Thompson about how this is a "personal choice" that not everybody gets to make. IE, immunocompromized folks and parents of newborns/young children are still in the thick of the pandemic. And let me tell you, it sucks. It's so irritating to see these galaxy brained morons stretching this entire ordeal out for the rest of the world because they think their friend who sells weed to middle schoolers is a viable source of medical information.

If you don't have a membership, just open the story in incognito to read.

Trey Burke, Aaron Rogers, Kyrie, and all of them can go eat shit.

I don't begrudge people that are vaccinated and want to go live life. Again, if it weren't for an extremely vulnerable newborn, I would be doing the same thing. But anyone that chooses not to get the vaccine and is not in a group that has been explicitly warned not to by a doctor is a selfish, shit for brains moron that is actively harming the general population and robbing years away from the people who actually possess critical thinking skills.

I would get the shots and not lose that amount of loot! I read that Roger's may have lied about getting vaccinated. He is out this Sunday with COVID. There's talk he may get kicked out of the NFL for faking his COVID vaccination shots.

I don't know about that.  I'm in my late 50s and got vaccinated since I did not want to take a chance on catching a potentially fatal virus. I plan to get a third shot in the next month because the Israel study shows that the vaccine effectiveness wanes after 6 months and I don't want a break through case of COVID.
