J.J McCarthy finishes 2nd at Elite 11, according SI All American's grading system
It's pretty wild from source to source how varied the rankings are
Agreed. 7th on 247 rankings. Just kind of goes to show you that the salt grain is sizable.
Was it Trent Dilfer that rated them 25% on camp performance and 75% on HS film?
Yes he was. That is how the official final standings were tabulated. Essentially it was pre-decided. However, SI and others didn’t use that standard which accounts for the widely varying results from different sources.
And 5 spots ahead of McCord!
Please don't leave us with OSU comes back calling!
I think osu pissed him off pretty good. The type of pissed off that drives a kid like him to make beating them his mission.
Like Kallis
He is a dude.
That's great and all, but isn't this the camp where the kids make like 20 throws all day or something?
Yes but I'm starting to wonder if that matters. Shea averaged 29 attempts per game last year and only eclipsed 30 attempts in 6 out of 13 games. 20 throws is low but it isn't as low as you'd think.
Now compare that to a QB in an Air Raid offense? Yeah 20 throws is probably too few. But most colleges do not run an Air Raid offense (yet).
I just meant in terms of evaluating talent. My impression of this camp has always been that it's great to be invited, but the evaluations are all over the place because the sample size is so small.
But we aren’t evaluating them based on what they’ll throw in a single game. The point of the camps is to evaluate who the best players are. Can you realistically rank players based on that number of throws? Coaching staffs typically take most of spring and fall camp to pick a starter. You really think you can roll the balls out and decide who the best recruits are on just ~20 throws?
The reality is you never know until they start having to make college reads in live action when the bullets are flying. Lots of guys look good throwing in tshirts. That's not football. But, it's still a good sign.
We will take the next step as a program when JJ takes over at the helm.
Will Harbaugh be replaced by then ??
It appears a few people have already forgotten about the last 2 meetings with Ohio...
We said the same thing with Shane Morris. And Brandon Peters. And Shea Patterson. And I think we’re still waiting to take that next step. I’m excited for JJ too but I’ll wait to see what he does when he gets thrown onto the field against a great team on the road.
What’s he going to do when Michigan goes on the road to State College or Columbus, and Michigan gets punched in the mouth in the first 15 mins and is down 14-0? How’s he going to react and rally the troops?
Elite 11 finalist. Does really well at the competition. Going to IMG academy. Now this is what Michigan has been missing at quarterback! If only JJ McCarthy earned the MVP then we know he'd have a great Michigan career. Of course I'm being sarcastic and all of this sounds really familiar LOL. Really though in all sincerity I think he'll have a better career here than Shea Patterson.
2nd you say?
He's the perfect dude for UM then. Until he gets flipped.
JJ is helping to recruit for us. He's not flipping. I think he will be a great QB here. I think they will RS him but it would not surprise me if he compete as a Fr when he arrives on campus.
My complete and utter dislike of Trent Dilfer will never allow me to take the Elite 11 seriously again
But he won a Super Bowl! You have to take him seriously.
Seems Michigan finishes 2nd in a lot of things!
God, you’re cool!!
Animal is so used to being 1st in everything in his life that he classifies everything in the world as 1st and not 1st. He can no longer distinguish between, say, 2nd and 130th.
Is anyone else confused by the ranking system? Is the "SI All American's grading system" different than the Elite 11 rankings system? If so, what was the final ranking system by the Elite 11 guys?
What is the background song that is used at the beginning of the video? It sounds like the instrumtental to Old Thing Back by Matoma, but there's no saxophone. Great vid btw.
Meh. Let’s see how he performs in games. This is all that matters.
