If you are looking at the fancy stats, that is simply not true. Pep Hamilton's 2nd year offense was better and last year Gattis first year offense was also better even though the start of the season was an absolute clunker. That offense in 2016 feasted on lesser opponents putting up 63, 51, 78, 59 on Hawaii, UCF, Rutgers and Maryland. But against Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, and Ohio St we only scored 14, 13, 20, and 17 not including the overtime. Should have easily been an undefeated season had the offense been even acceptable against Iowa and OSU.

I feel like Jedd get a lot of love here based off of the "good shit Jedd" gif.

Nothing against Jedd. He may very well be an outstanding coach and I hope he gets the job, but numbers wise. our 2018 and 2019 offenses were better.

People need to stop relying on advanced stats for everything. You seriously want me to think an offense that put up 14 on Army in regulation, 14 against Wisconsin, 10 against Iowa, 21 against Penn State, and 16 against Alabama was better than 2016? We missed 3 field goals against Wisconsin and IU O'Korn had to play in the snow. Butt, Chesson, and Darboh were our best group of receivers since Breaston, Avant, and Manningham.

2018 maybe, but it was still slow and plodding a lot of the time with no ability to hurry up against ND or OSU. It had more of a reliable run game than 2016 which they used to pound Penn State and Wisconsin, but they thought they could do the same thing against OSU and they obviously couldn't.

Jed Fisch is "listed" as a job candidate for every college job every year. Yet, he never gets one. In fact, he hasn't even landed a Coordinator gig yet. Sounds like to me he's got an agent that''s been bending the ears of reporters and not the decision-makers themselves.

I'm not a slappy by any means. I think the 2016 offense is wildly overrated. It bludgeoned the hell out of awful teams and got completely stoned against the only good defenses we played. With that said, you can't doubt that our quarterbacks improved a lot under his tutelage. He also coordinated a good spread offense and spent time learning from Sean McVay after he left. We could do worse if we want someone to work with Gattis and replace McDaniels.

Idk, he did pretty good with Rudock and Speight in '15 & '16 respectively. You probably know more than I do, but I recall Speight specifically mentioning how much Fisch helped him develop, then he seemed to drop off a cliff in '17 after Fisch had left, as did the passing game which he was said to be the architect of.

I get there were other factors involved, losing other offensive starters and all that. Definitely not saying Fisch is "the answer", but he seems to be a pretty good coach overall and those 2 seasons were the best of the Harbaugh era so fans tend to gravitate towards what changed since then as the answer for the offensive woes.

Here's a little tip for folks when it comes to coaching searches when reporters put out stories. The first few names are viable candidates, but the names on the bottom are always fed by agents to drum up interest. "Sources say they are also looking at X", or "Coach X has done a great job building up QB Y," which means the agent is asking the reporter to put his client's name out there for him. Just look at all of Feldman's columns and see the names that seemingly pop up for everything, even if they don't quite fit.

Flaming hot take coming in.

if harbaugh is gone in The 2021 season (fired, leaves etc), and Jedd Fisch gets a 7-8 win season at Arizona in 2021, I have little issue with Michigan giving Jedd a look at HC.

Arizona has no money, they were basically forced into firing Sumlin because you can't lose the AZ State game by a million like that, but they don't really have the money to make a proper hire. So it's either going to be an ambitious assistant like Jedd who hasn't built the resume for a HC job or a MAC/Mountain West guy who wants a chance at a P5 job and is willing to take a low salary to get it.

It's no coincidence that the offense fell off a cliff when he left. In hindsight, he pulled a rabbit out of a hat in fielding a decent offense in 2016 and making Wilton Speight look serviceable. We couldn't run the ball to save our lives that year, and he devised a passing game that obscured our issues with the O-line and our running game.

Hot take guy on Mgoblog.

"I don't know what the infatuation is with him anyway. Also I think Gattis could be a good OC if he was given a chance."

Strange world.
