Jabrill gets 1st NFL pick

Submitted by superstringer on

Stepped in front of a Steelers receiver, disguised his coverage.  Of course, it was a backup QB.

That a UMin-the-NFL defensive back getting an NFL pick is probably not itself post-worthy. But Jabrill getting his first one, coming in the 17th game (from a backup QB) seems newsworthy.  Proof that the Browns have been wasting his talent all season!!! Its really true, careers do go to die in Cleveland.

Or it means he’s one of the most overrated players in M history.

But the browns secondary has been hot garbage all year. Idk how any of those coaches are still employed.

Fuck. How many guys can you name better than Peppers in the past 5 years? 10 years? Just because he didn't play in a bowl game or beat OSU in a team game doesn't mean he's overrated. You're probably someone who has Harbaugh on the hot seat. Shane Morris was overhyped and overrated. Derrick Green was overhyped and overrated. Jabrill Peppers finished something like 5th in the Heisman. Stop it. So many of you are butt hurt like he was going to be some kind of program saving player while playing safety/linebacker and punt returner. If you thought he was Charles Woodson...that's your damn fault. Don't blame him because you put expectations on him that we're damn near impossible. The rest of us saw a GREAT player who helped turned an entire program around from the darkest period of our lifetime. He was a 5* player, 1st team All-American and conference player, Heisman finalist, 1st round draft pick. What else do you want from a 5* LB/S? He lived up to the rating. He's not even close to overrated.

I said he was overhyped and after watching a season of Devin Bush, who had no hype, I stand by that.  After watching a season of never hyped Tyree Kinnel, I stand by that assessment.

JP was an awesome athlete with a high speed motor, I've no problem conceding that, but aside from returning punts, there is no other position that hasn't been successfully filled by somebody else.

Please watch more football, you are comparing a FS and a 100pct different type of linebacker to Peppers. Please watch film from Michigan’s defenses from 2010 - 2015 before Peppers and watch every team shred them on the outside, then watch the film during Peppers and actually learn what his purpose was and how successful he was at it

Thanks for that video. Looks like Peppers did everything asked of him and had good speed while doing it. Shut down the outside while playing contain on pass routes, trained to expect Gideon help in the middle. 3 defense on 2 receivers triangle plan. Surprised he only had 2 catches against him on man to man coverage all 2016, though he was usually in zone.

I only watch a handful of Browns game because I had Isaiah Crowell, and Josh Gordon for fantasy. I was really surprised to see how poor some of the pursuit angles were that Peppers took.

It was already talked about ad nasuem in the pre-draft scouting reports that Peppers struggles in coverage, but being how cerebral of a player he was in college, I didn't think he would have that tough of a time tracking down his opponents to tackle them.

Right now Taco and Peppers have both had pretty mild rookie seasons, but they still have time to grow into those 1st round picks... hopefully.
