Great interview with Cade McNamara

Submitted by ldevon1 on March 25th, 2022 at 7:23 AM

I know the rule on Barstool, but this is Bussin with the Boys with Taylor Lewan and Will Compton interviewing Cade McNamara. Don't open this at work (NSFW)

Think it's safe to say that the mods have seen this new post by now, so I want to say that I appreciate this being left up. I understand that MGoBlog does not want to have Barstool content posted on it, but I think an exception being made in this case is fair. It is pretty rare for long form interviews to happen with Harbaugh, and it's good to hear the podcasts done with other figures in the program as well (Harbaugh, Chris Bryant, Trevor Keegan, and Blake Corum were also interviewed like Cade was).

I just now opened this thread for the first time today (I had much earlier seen the thread title which appeared to be 100% worry-free).  As soon as I now read the OP and the first few posts I immediately decided to respond.

As noted in the Mod Sticky thread, I removed the previous thread that's being referenced. And I know I was down voted by a couple users for doing so, as I expected. My bottom line is and always has been this:  Enforce the rules and regulations as set forth by the Owner and the Managing Editor of MGoBlog.

In the spirit of compromise, I'll contact Seth and see what he thinks with the understanding that leaving this thread up with a Barstool video is NOT precedent-setting.

I'll get his decision and act accordingly; in the meantime I again strongly encourage everyone (if you haven't already done so) to familiarize yourself with both Brian's MGoBoard FAQ

https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/mgoboard-faq

and Seth's OP at the top of the Mod Sticky thread https://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/moderator-action-sticky-2022

Thems the rules around these parts. I and LSA don't set said rules but we do enforce them.

[Edit @ 8:32pm: Per Seth, this one can stay on the board. The "No Barstool" rule still stands.]

I'm not seeing where the "overthinking" is that you're claiming.  The OP himself and the first three responses to his OP all thought it was important to discuss the Barstool issue and the Taylor Lewan issue. I addressed it accordingly.

If you read thru the thread you will see that others also bring up their thoughts on B-S and TL.

I addressed it, reached out to Seth for clarification, and then edited in his decision.  Better to just ignore it, in your opinion?

Again, the rules here on the MGoBoard are and always have been set by Brian and Seth.  Their blog, their rules.  But you've been here long enough to know that.

Really entertaining and candid interviews with Cade, Coach Harbaugh, Denard, Zinter, and Keegan.  I don’t care one way or another if people watch but I really enjoyed them.

I hope he's grown up, become more of a human, but Taylor Lewan is always going to remain persona non grata for me. That said, this is some pretty bright and insightful people talking very openly about their experiences acculturating to Michigan football. Pretty amazing document, in my view.

Persona non grata, eh? Now I want to see him show up at your door, knock, and ask to come in.

Editing to clarify for the reading-challenged: I'm imagining a scenario where a celebrity shows up at someone's door and is turned away. Apparently this (admittedly underdeveloped) joke reads as Internet Aggro to some. Bizarre.

Don't think I live in your cave man world, or want to, but I've lived in Detroit, Brooklyn, Dublin, Barcelona, Kingston, and Bangalore, and handled my share of tense situations; I'd hope to handle it with aplomb. Tell us about your bona fides, chunklet. :)

I watched all these interviews. They often got weird and I still felt like Lewan is very immature. I'm really unsure why you'd ask players and coach Harbaugh if they ever looked at other people's junk in the shower. Who really wants to talk about that?

I totally get that it's a locker room boys club and some immature shit goes down that can be funny. That's fine.

But in literally every single interview they asked each guy the same question "do you look at other dudes junk in the locker room"

Even 60 year old catholic as shit Harbaugh. It was really annoying. Ask once sure go for it but each time was really annoying.

They may think asking about staring at junk is tame.

At NU there was always a faction of players on the team who were wildly inappropriate in the locker room. I remember one group who wrapped up towels to play “naked football”. You had to be completely naked to play and your privates were going to get hit as part of the game. 80% of the players wanted nothing to do with this behavior but those few idiots would insist and play each other constantly while the rest avoided.

In my locker room there were those few guys who would beg and demand for “cock tricks” to be performed. Hey everyone, look at my attempts at “Puppetry of the Penis”. Again, most of us hated this but were constantly subjected to the loud few who thought it was all hilarious.

lastly, hazing events included “freshman cock day” (just a legend but still gross) and having nude seniors try to rub their balls on your face - actually happened to people, usually not actually on the face. I once got two of them grinding their butts and balls on me when I was sitting on the team bus. Today that would be assault and I would be a hero for bringing it forward. Back then the coaches would insist the victims shut up and the AD would look the other way.

sounds like Taylor or his cohost (or both) are part of this type of college athlete. I wanted no part of those people then and none now thank you. I can’t imagine how these people find so much entertainment in this crap.

Yeah, it's this trifecta of obnoxiously bro-y, slightly homophobic, and unfunny.  Also, I sort of doubt they'd dive into a thoughtful discussion about the fluidity of human sexuality and appreciation of the human form if someone answered "yes" - I assume they'd giggle a bit and then make some lazy comments.

Anyway, I'm happy Cade is getting a chance to get out there and talk about his successes even if it's on a program hosted by people who seem like jerks on a network created (and seemingly still running with the DNA) by an asshole.

Totally dumb segment IMO... It's something from an early BWTB podcast, though, and apparently it's stuck. I stopped watching/listening/following a while back mostly because Will is so insufferable. There is some quality content they put out, but you have to sift through a lot to find it.

I've posted once here about one of those golden nuggets and it was nuked. I'm shocked to see this thread has lasted so long.

Keith Jackson makes a cameo here where drives his blue bicycle in the middle of the interview and right in front of Lewan and does a Dab while doing a wheelie!

It's awesome!
