Fitting in countable hours, Ohio's new S&C coach makes players work out at midnight...

Submitted by iawolve on

A quote about the new S&C coach coming from Florida:

"Marotti is known for having players haul rocks, flip tires and work out at midnight."

I hope someone is filling out CARA forms properly, don't want to be a repeat offender. MSU should try this since it would cut down on the midnight beatings of fellow students. Isn't that annual event coming up soon?

Look...i think we've already established that just about anything an OSU coach does is considerable acceptable by the NCAA.  All we can hope is the midnight workouts leave the players too sleepy to play well.

I have given up any hope that the enforcement arm of the NCAA will.......I dunno......enforce anything.  At least not when it comes to their "fair-haired" children like OSU or Auburn.  The red-headed stepkids like us and USC get disciplened quite differently by dad.

It's all about "what have you done for me lately?"  Sadly, Michigan hasn't given much lately.  That's going to change soon, and we're going to be the favorite kid again.  And we're going to do it the right way, which will make it even sweeter.

At some point the NCAA has to tune into the crap going on at Ohio: Tressel per-game pep talk. Ineffective and inappropriate. 2 coaching staffs. One for lying to recruits and the other to coach the team in joke bowl. Urb telling recruits that the worst is behind Ohio even though the NCAA has said anything yet. Wake up NCAA!

"Not one of those things is an NCAA violation, FYI. "

Well, no.  But ALL of those things demonstrate a dangerous ARROGANCE in regards to NCAA violations.

Which is probably how Ohio got into the mess it's in in the first place.

I mean, having Tressel address the team after he was fired doesn't exactly make the strongest case for the NCAA to rule that Ohio has punished itself enough and "gets it."

But, hey, stupid is as stupid does.  If Ohio wants to keep giving the NCAA infractions committee the bird, who am I to discourage them?  Go for it, buckeye!

It's one thing to break a rule on the job, it's quite another to do it repeatedly while publicly telling your boss to fuck off in nearly every way imaginable in front of all of your co workers and customers.

I know people are saying the NCAA doesn't care what the public thinks, but how long do you think they will honestly just sit there and keep letting that school in Ohio spit in their faces in front of everyone? Hiring a guy who averaged over 5 player arrests during his six year tenure at a major program, their joke of a 11 day investigation that (surprise!) turned up "No wrongdoing", their laughable claims of co-operation, their lobbying for a delay of penalty so that the five suspended players can play in a bowl game only to see the worst offender by far skip town after going out in a blaze of fucking glory... I'd list more but this bullshit is giving me a headache.

Point is, every single move Ohio has made since the scandal has broke has moved from a "sweep it under the rug" diversion to "Just don't give a fuck" mode. They aren't even trying anymore to even maintain an illusion of compliance. Like a screaming child in the middle of the grocery store, they are daring the NCAA to try and disicpline them in front of everyone. It's a bold power play, indeed. I just hope, for the sake of college football, it doesn't work this time.

That's what you said about the Tattoos

"Nothing to see here"

"Isolated incident"

Then slowly one violation after another began to leak out.

So, at this point, it is as silly to claim, as you do, that no violation exists, as it would be to claim there is a known violation.  The issue questioned in this thread is whether or not allegations of the new OSU coach's unusual workouts have been investigated as intensively as have those of other coaches elswhere.   It's about equity.  It's about the level playing field that the NCAA alleges to promote.

To play devil's advocate, replace Mariotti with Barwis and we'd be talking about wolfpacks and baby seals.  S&C guys tend to be a crazy bunch, and this all sounds legit to me.  Football players need to be big, flexible, and strong - I'm actually okay with guys putting in a little more time in the weight room to reach that goal, since it has the benefit of keeping them safer on the field.  Now, trading pants for tats and cars, that's another issue.

My mother was a Health and PE/ Biology Major at Ohio when Woody was coaching in the early to mid 60s. She has told me stories of the football players at that time going into a test and literally passing the answers to the exam around while the exam was going on.  After the players finished, the brought a local TV crew in to film the players taking the exam (they had already finished by this time and were merely acting like they were working). She said this was pretty prevalent throughout the university at that time (minus a few obviously respectable...and tenured professors).  We have heard how Tress stacked raffle items in the favor of big time recruits at camps, we know about the Tressel era. It would seem to me that being shady has been a requirement for an Ohio football coach going back to the 50s. Except for our favorite guy...John Cooper. Man I miss him!!

OK so that would mean that the schedule of a bucknut would be as follows;

12:00am work out until 2:00

2:00am drink yourself into a drunked stooper until 3:30am

8:00am sleep through first class

10:00am sleep through second class

12:00pm roll over and finally turn off the alarm clock.

3:30pm show up for practice

5:00pm hit showers.

6:00pm meet buddies at tattoo parlor and get tats for props.

9:00 pm sign memorabilia for cash until time to work out.

Sounds like a pretty full day to me.

Some nuts are also saying that Urban is brining friday night lights with him to Columbus. From what ive heard its like a big camp/combine where prospects compete at their stadium. I guess it was real popular at florida.
