Favorite big hits by UM Defense

Submitted by Eastside Maize on
We had a few years of passive and soft defense at UM. Now we are back to flying to the ball and hard hitting. Which hit(s) are your favorite(s)? For me, I'm going with Brandon Graham coming unblocked off the edge and destroying Staee RB Glenn Winston. I don't know how he held onto the ball. My second favorite was a collective hit when we stoned Minnesota's QB sneak, to win the game. That goal line stand saved our season.

Any time that anyone hit Brady Quinn, it was my favorite hit. Watching that guy basically in tears on the sidelines in 2006 was a defining moment in my Michigan fandom. But my all time favorite play is when a camera guy gets taken out on the sidelines.

It was either 06 or 07 vs. MSU, and State threw that quick lateral pass out to the flat. Chris Graham leveled the guy with a head of steam the moment he caught the ball. Definition of pads poppin.

Although we did not win the game, Clark coming off the edge and just absolutely destroying Braxton Miller in the 2012 OSU game is one of my all-time favorites. I have no idea how in the hell he did not fumble that ball, get knocked out of the game, or even just knocked out for a series or two. Clark got a full head of steam and tackled him with merciless authority.

To this day I'm convinced Braxton Miller is some kind of cyborg who is numb to any feeling of real pain. The amount of times that guy has been leveled is just flat out not healthy, and somehow he almost always came back the very next play stronger than he was before. I know he was out for all of 2014, but still, it was absurd how much punishment his body could absorb.

Although this one is even less well-known, the Minnesota game from 2011 I believe. Will Campbell literally just shoved a Minnesota offensive lineman out of his way and sacked Minnesota's QB. Looked like it required no effort on his part whatsoever. It was there you saw Campbell's potential. Was literally like a varsity player going against a pee wee football player.

Bolden vs. Travis Wilson (Utah)

Demens vs. That Northwestern dude in OT (NW)

James Ross vs. any pulling blocker

Other school honorable mention: Borland (Wiscy) vs. Hyde (OSU) on the goal line

Was on ESPN Classic over the weekend. Turned it on right as Devin was about to chuck up the prayer to Roundtree. Had to watch the end to see the Demens hit. Forgot about Frank Clark literally just driving Mark into the turf as hard as he could a couple plays before. Then listening to Brady interviewed on the field after the game...yikes! So happy we have Harbaugh now.

One last thing, empty student section toward top of bowl made we want to vomit. Thanks, Dave.

For me it's Shazor vs Purdue. I remember wanting to drop my head as #9 took off with the ball. Just as I'm about to drop my head Ernest MF Shazor comes across the field to absolutley blast the ball carrier. Lost in the awesomeness of the hit is Leon Hall's recovery inbounds. If he doesn't get that Purdue gets the ball with great field position. Pretty rare to see one hit essentially win the entire game.

Taylor, but because of what happened...let's take it out. But the answer is Daydrian Taylor.

I think the next best have all been said.

One that I haven't seen is Jabrill's vicious hit that separated the ball from the WR (Oregon St.) or Peppers' hit against Colorado where he came up like a missle.
