Current player reactions of the Harbaugh hire?

Submitted by Duval Wolverine on

We all know that the fan base, former players, and recruits are all excited about Jim Harbaugh as the new Michigan Head Coach, but has anyone heard anything or seen anything on social media about reactions from current players on the Michigan team?

Hoke loves Michigan and gave everything he had to the program.  He took a group of guys that he didn't recruit to a BCS game in his first year.  Obviously, things regressed but he still wanted the best for these guys and the team and Michigan.  It didn't work out, but lets keep from pouring salt on those wounds.  He lost his dream job.  Try to remember that part.

I'm a bit disappointed to see any bile directed toward Brady Hoke.  It's not his fault that he took his dream job and it's not his fault he wasn't quite good enough.  He went for his dream and ultimately failed.

All bile over the way Hoke's hire turned out should be directed solely at David Brandon.  Then again, why on earth would be even bother with bile?  I am not trying to be presumptuous or tell anyone what to do, but I think we should be celebrating Harbaugh, not pissing in the pool.

of course not, Hoke is full of class.

But he is 100% responsible for failing at Michigan.  Who gives a fuck who hired him? He was hired to do a job he publicly drooled over (not drafted against his will) and failed on a number (but not every) of levels; including the single most important one he was hired for, successfully coaching a winning football team.

Thats not throwing him under the bus, that's reality.

Brandon hiring an unqualified coach is just one of Brandon's many mistakes.

It's not like Hoke's guys were spouting off and we all know Hoke never said shit in press conferences.

I don't see any difference. And it hasn't even been 24 hours.

But think about when Hoke was fired. You heard nothing from players and when you did, it was ALL positive and classy.

So there isn't a change...and that's a nod to Hoke and the tone he set and the young men he recruited. Because in Gainesville guys were Tweeting all kinds of craziness.

...it might be easier to ask if there is a Michigan fan, alum, player, former player, etc. in this galaxy who isn't 100% behind this hire.

I get that MSU and OSU fans are looking for ways to belittle these events, and that Auburn and Georgia fans don't care, but I can't imagine a single Michigan person - whether they were in the RR camp, the Brady camp, somewhere in-between, or in no camp at all - that isn't all in on this one.

It's truly the perfect hire. Just like Meyer at OSU.

Some hires just can't be complained about in any way, shape, or form. This is one of those.

It checks every single box.

Even the academic people love it because he coached at Stanford and took less money than originally reported.

Literally everyone who should be happy is happy.

I've had no less than three of my friends make comments varying from "I just don't think he has the kind of attitude that Michigan needs", to "he isn't nearly as good as everyone thinks".

I have no words for the stupid that people are capable of. Some people just have to complain about something, anything.

You're right, I'm shocked by those comments.  Are they from Michigan fans or just casual observers?

I guess I can understand the attitude comment.  I think he has exactly the attitude we need, but tomato - tomAHto, etc.  On the other hand, his record demonstrates that he is as good as everyone thinks.  Tough to argue there.  I'm all for contrarianism, but not just to be fashionable.

Believe they are extremely excited.  No trepidation as alluded to above.  Conference call was short and direct and positive I am told.  Didn't pry for any other specifics.

Sounds like they will have a focused first meeting next week and get after it.

Was quoted in the Detroit News. Seemed I recognized a story told on this very site.... Suffice to say the excitement and emotion spans far and wide.

...however, I don't have it in me to do it for the 4th day in a row.

A lot of it is in the open thread from the press conference. Check that one.

Also, on Sunday and Monday I created two threads specifically for reaction...you can look in those.

The link above has a very comprehensive collection of current players...
I'll look around at recruits to try and add more. I know Alex Malzone is in love...he can't stop talking about it. Chris Clark is super excited. Brian Cole is excited and ready to work and it looks like Mike Weber may be making yet another decision.

are probably that crop of highly regarded, young offensive linemen who were coached up by Funk and ended up watching a walkon and a converted DE start the last two seasons, and found themselves behind another walkon in Burzyinski.

If I'm Dawson, Kugler, Bars, Fox, Tuley-Tillman, Bushel-Beatty, etc, I think I'm the most "excited" because of a new set of eyes evaluating me.

If not them, the young crop of linebackers who know Desmond Morgan is owed nothing by this coaching staff.  Guys like Gedeon, McCray, and Jenkins-Stone should also be pretty excited.

Obviously the TEs and RBs will like the hire, but if I'm guessing, there's a little extra adrenaline going through Michigan's young OL and LBs right now.

I went down the roster and almost every player who had a twitter had a positive comment. There were a few guys who are going to be seniors and came in with Hoke who didn't have anything posted. Which really doesn't mean anything.

Overall, this was a home run and the guys are EXTREMELY happy with the hire. This kept the locker room together more than any other hire could have.
