College basketball Saturday open thread

I'm getting warmed up with a Big East throwback, Hoyas v. Johnnies from MSG. Two point game at the first half under four. First of a quadruple header on FOX. (You know the selection committee wants Pitino in the first four for the ratings)

Other games of note today:

UK @ Tennessee, 4 PM ET on CBS

Fighting Hunter Dickinsons @Houston, 4 PM ET on ESPN

UNC @ Duke, 6:30 PM ET on ESPN

It's too bad Michigan is so bad this year, because March Madness is always so compelling.

What game(s) will you be watching today?

To each their own--good for the OP--but this is where Michigan Basketball being terrible causes my fandom to fall off the cliff.  This year, I have no interest in the rest of college basketball at this point because it has zero impact on Michigan and 68 non-Michigan teams will be there for me when the Big Dance starts.

Here's to rooting for an unexpected win on Sunday.  I think of it as BPOPE, the Black Pit of Positive Expectations.  I take BPONE to be an irrational negativity in a competitive situation.  Well, the on-court performance this year provides no basis to expect a win.  Yet I watch and am drawn to hope for it nonetheless.

BPOPE.

Yeah my sucker is in the dirt big time. Ill watch some games but im not all lathered up like usual. Damn it how are we this bad? You guys ready for the most historical big ten tourney run youve ever seen? Beating the runway/practice jersey squad out? Unlike a football season they still hold their destiny in their hands. 10-0 to finish the season? Id say stranger things have happened but they really havent.

I haven't paid much attention to Caitlin Clark.  Is there something about the way she carries herself or something she's said that turns people off?  I'm not paying intentional attention to her,  but it seems like there's a growing anti-Caitlin presence out there.

It seems to me that women's basketball could use something to draw more people to it.  (But she hasn't hooked me,  obviously.)  Or maybe the haters are just what's needed to draw more attention--there's no such thing as bad publicity.

Besides her NBA 3 pt range and elite passing, Caitlin is viewed as a positive role model and revolutionary figurehead for women's basketball. She is selling out every arena she plays in. She is a very likable person with a fiery competitive spirit. She's great for the game.

Fun bit of trivia: She is dating Fran McCaffery's son, Connor, who also played for the Hawkeyes.

I’m hoping the Wings end their losing streak. They haven’t won a game since they added the advertising patch on their sweaters.

Also, watching the women’s team

I am watching Alabama and Arkansas battle close game.  I think Alabama having 20wins is on the bubble and needs the W more.

Wish Michigan could just pass, play some D and eliminate turnovers.  Just fundamentals.  JB made magic out of them 2-3 star players.  March madness is not the same.

Alabama Basketball Baby, about to put this W in the books and be a 4 seed in the tournament.

Use to be a selection Sunday at Crisler???

Oklahoma Vs Texas both teams on bubble.  Battling!!!

Michigan can’t pass or hold onto the ball, can’t believe how low the program has become, blown out by Rutgers, expect the same against Nebraska.

No NIT!!!

Nope, just can’t do it this year. Our team has sucked all of the basketball joy out of me. Haven’t watched double digit games for our own team, much less other programs. I don’t know how you do it, but I give you credit for being able to stomach it. This will be the first time I can remember where I will not be pacing waiting for all the ncaa tournament games to kick off. Juwan has found a way to kill all my joy towards my favorite sport, and I’ve been through the Ellerbe, Amaker and early Beilein years.
