Clamouring for a New Banner Contest

Submitted by UMFootballCrazy on
I think it has to be time again for a new banner at MGBlog...lets take this opportunity to pester Brian [without actually pestering him] to get it going. I don't do photoshop myself, but loved looking at all the banners and enjoyed voting on them. Brian...are you listening?

I was thinking we should do a T-shirt contest this year instead; people keep telling me there should be an official MGoShirt but I've never figured out what it should be.

I am against this for 3 reasons: 1) The banner contest has made my summers more fun since 2007 and I hate to see that go 2) I am not good at t-shirt designing 3) The third reason also revolves around me and probably doesn't mean shit to anyone else Me.

Do both...I like a number of other banners more than the one you ended up with because of copy right issues...yvgeni's glowing evil eyes for one...its time for a new look Do the t-shirts for profit...I want something unique to wear on the 5th of September other than the polo, my one of four sideline ball caps, my dozen or so t-shirts sporting "official" slogans, or my sideline jacket...I need...need...something new to wear... "Thumbs up for Michigan" is just corny enough...rooted in current envents on the blog and wayyy better than the awefull "All in for Michigan"

something, but I do not hate the "All in for Michigan" slogan. This might be derived from what the AD has said what it refers to, or not, I don't know. But many seem to think that it is from a total gamble a la "Texas Holdem" and that may be. But I have read it more like "we're all in this together" kind of a rally cry, with the "all" being the team, staff, university, alumni, and maybe even the state (EL excepted, of course). Perhaps the allusion coming (corny as it may be) from the "all for one and one for all" 3-musketeers thing is what people don't like, I don't know. But against the backdrop of last season, and the current situation, I kind of like it. I have looked at it as an attempt at unification, not the desperation of an "all in" bet.

I think we need some stability with the banner. I like it. The T-Shirt I will win when I get to 169 mgopoints is of more immediate importance. We best get busy.

Think how much $$$ Brian would make off the t's. For those who contribute to the blog, this would provide an opportunity to purchase a cool t-shirt and give a little something ($$) back to the blog. T-$hirt Contest! Note: For those who don't feel generous enough to use the donation link

There are less than 2 month to design, vote (or just have Brian decide on 1 or more) print, and mail T-shirts. We have to act now if anyone wants one in time for the first game. This off season has been crippling, and the only that would make next years more tolerable would be for it to include a new banner contest. Make it begin the day after signing day. I got nothing for T-shirt slogans; either "Thumbs UP (or High Fives) for Michigan", or "I cashed in my MGoBlog Points and all I got was a lousy T-shirt"

I would wear something like that every day of my life, seriously. Last year I ordered three shirts from here just before the big Rich Robots fiasco. After getting my bank involved I got my shirts two months later, part of my order at least. To add insult to injury I had put on a bit of weight and the super tight shirts were tighter on me than a wetsuit. They now belong to my girlfriend, I want my own shirt.

I was watching TV the other day (TLC or the History Channel, can't remember) and there was a show on random gangs across the US. One of them is based out of Boston, with some other chapters nationwide i think, and identify themselves as FSU. Fuck Shit Up. Even though the phrase is rather common, i'd feel a bit uneasy about sporting that on a t-shirt, regardless of how much of a stretch it would be to connect that to the gang.

I am sure we can get the banner contenst done before the beginning of the season...but can we get a t-shirt done? i think both should be an annual affair...something for us all to do during the off season...

1) Naked Guy incorporating Bill Raftery and the phrase, "Big Time Onions!" 2) I know this is kind of vague but something incorporating Forcier and the Star Wars theme. Maybe Forcier decapitating the OSU and Sparty mascots with a light saber? Banner Idea: (also vague idea as I have no technical savvy to put this idea to work) A sort of Michigan through the years montage working from left to right starting with pictures of the main coaches (Yost, Crisler, Schembechler, Carr, Rod) on top of of a picture of a player that exemplified that coach's era (Benny Friedman, Tom Harmon, Harbaugh, Woodson, a ninja)

I think in the future it would be cool to have both, but the timing might limit us having just one or the other before the season in terms of getting entries in and voting... For the future, doing the banner right after the season might be cool and the t-shirt leading up to the season. That way we have something to do in the offseason (other than over obsess over recruiting) and then we all have sweet shirts to wear to the games/bar every year.

While in general, one banner is fine, I love the idea of seasonal or special banners. Of course, Brian or some of you geeks would have to have the tech stuff done so that a new banner could post virtually immediately. Possibilities: Basketball banner (Manny? Peedi?) Special NCAA tourney banner OSU emo banner (worth designing, but hope this is never used) OSU victory banner (worth designing, can't wait til this is used) Hockey banner Bowl banner Signing day banner UM grads in space banner (a motion banner?) Fall colors banner Campus banner (it has been too long) Of course, who really cares about the banners . . . its the content. Re T-Shirts, do what you want.
