Frustrating as in his early season woes that almost meant we'd have Devin backing Denard up today.  I'm happy he stuck around and came through when we needed him!

11/06/2010 - 4:19pm Wooooo!

Feels great to smile after a Michigan game...feels like it's been a long long time!

As frustrating as Tate can be at times, I'm thankful he's still playing for us!

10/05/2010 - 7:39pm Awesome

Almost makes up for the constant LeBron coverage.  Glad ESPN did this.

09/12/2010 - 12:53pm I agree

Denard should get the first half, unless it's a complete blowout.  Tate and Devin can split up the second half.

07/08/2010 - 9:27pm Definitely Worth It

I started watching the series from the beginning about a month ago.  I probably watched the first three seasons in two weeks.  I'm starting season 4 this weekend.  I think the characters truely make the show--just very well written and accurate to life (at least from my perspective in the legal field).

Bottom line: best tv drama ever.

It's not like Denard was skin and bones though. He definitely put on some muscle since the end of the football season:

01/23/2010 - 12:14pm Not Everyone

I just had a conversation with my boss' husband yesterday about Rich Rod and the state of the football program. I'm in my 20s and he's in his early 70s so there's a huge generational gap there. Also, we're both alums.

I pretty much agree with Brian that the 2010 season for better or worse should determine Rich Rod's fate. I've supported Rodriguez from the very beginning and preached patience to everyone I've talked to over the past couple years. However, if we go below .500 and miss a bowl I think big changes need to be made.

Surprisingly, my boss' husband thought that no matter what happens this coming season Rodriguez should get a fourth year. So, for what it's worth, not every old blue hair alum hates Rich Rod and wants a Bo style program back in Ann Arbor.

12/15/2009 - 1:53pm Back-Story?

Does anyone remember the story behind the Naked Man someone posted a while ago? That needs to be brought back today.

12/15/2009 - 11:40am Seconded.

That whole plot line with LaGuerta and Batista going back and forth with the Captain about whether they have a relationship was so pointless. The only thing it did for the overarching storyline with Dexter was to make him a little nervous about being called into LaGuerta's office. I'm figuring it will provide more face time for those two characters next season as they deal with the marriage/work dynamic.

12/14/2009 - 6:04pm Exactly my point. Mobility in

Exactly my point. Mobility in coaching contacts always favors the coach. If the coach's agent is any good at all he'll get such exceptions placed into a contract. A school cannot do anything other than place a buyout clause in a coach's contract.

My point was that I have never seen the buyout work the other way around, meaning that that if said coach broke his contract to go to a school like ND (let's say it's listed in the damages clause) the buyout would be more than if the coach went to another random (unlisted) school such as Tulsa.

12/14/2009 - 3:45pm Yes, but...

Yes, if by both ways you mean the university having a general liquidated damages (buyout) clause in the contract. I'm not familiar with any coaching contracts that adjust the buyout on such a clause based on the school the coach breaks the contract in favor of. On the other hand, many coaches have a general buyout clause with an exclusion for certain schools contained in the contract.

12/14/2009 - 12:17pm Amazing Ending

First of all, it was definitely not a dream sequence. The interview with Michael C. Hall and John Lithgow after the episode talked about the difficult job ahead for the show writers in Season 5. Remember that the show was picked up for seasons 4-6, so there are two seasons left for sure. IMO, this rivals the Season 2 finale with Doakes and Lila in the cabin, it may be even better and was much more unexpected.

That being said, I don't think Deb can possibly see Dexter for who he truly is next season and then have another entire season in which she either overlooks, helps, or tries to stop her brother. I don't think Dexter will try to hide Rita's body, there's just too many questions surrounding a disappearance. At the same time, there will be a lot in the opening episodes regarding his connection to Trinity and why Rita was chosen. As the last poster mentioned, the Quinn suspicion dynamic will play out and carry a storyline on its own. However, the writers must tread carefully to prevent a repeat of Doakes.

As for Trinity and his cycle, IIRC the last boy was kidnapped about ten days (or five?) prior to Rita's death. The boy in cement always is the first in the cycle, with the hammer bludgeoning being the last. As the previous poster mentions, the Christine Hill suicide could be like the mother off the roof suicide, reversed with Rita's bath tub death.

Either way, it was interesting in hindsight to see the cycle come full circle in the end. It really makes me want to watch Dexter's ritual kill of Arthur again to see the nuances of what was said to Dexter to foreshadow his discovery of Rita's body. I remember him saying something to Dexter along the lines of, "I've accepted God's plan, and you will have to as well." Great ending and can't wait for next season.

10/26/2009 - 11:34am I think you're right.

IIRC, Brian said you can get a medical redshirt if you miss 30% of the season or less. However, since the NCAA rounds down, playing only 33% of the season (or four games) still gets you in under the rule. This came up for Junior Hemingway last year I believe.

10/22/2009 - 12:43pm Clarification

Generally libel damages are per se (presumed, no proof required of economic harm). You get into the public concern test if the defamatory statements relate to a matter of public concern. Here, the ESPN woman would need to prove falsity of the claim and negligence on Deadspin's part. If the woman was a public figure (which Brian's correct, she's not), then she would have to prove that Deadspin knew the statement was false and published it anyway.

09/30/2009 - 7:27pm Tennis Courts?

I tailgated for the 2007 game in EL at the tennis courts by the stadium. It was pretty much all State fans, but it was fun and relatively civil (with the usual college debauchery). It helps to have some State friends tailgating with you though.

I'm headed up to EL again this year with a group of M grads for the game and I'm going to try to do the same thing, but I'm open to other tailgate suggestions.

Clete was batting a career .500 against Blackburn so it was not an arbitrary decision by Leyland. He just played the odds and it didn't pay off.

09/24/2009 - 3:37pm White Helmets

There's just something about the white helmets and their contrast to the navy blue jerseys that make PSU uniforms cool (and second best in the Big 10 IMO)

09/21/2009 - 5:49pm Agreed.

I think they are the most arrogant Big Ten fans. I was in the student section for the 2005 (Manningham woo!) game against PSU and was surrounded by a bunch of Penn State fans/students that kept trying to start the WE ARE...PENN STATE! chant (I also put some blame on the UM students that sold their tickets to the PSU fans). But they were, by the far, the cockiest group of opposing fans outside of Columbus and talked crap the entire game...which made the final second of that game so great.

09/16/2009 - 3:56pm I agree

The corners were giving 10 yards to the receivers off the line seemingly on every down. As Brian mentioned, Warren got the best of it with the safety help; but I also think Warren was consistently keeping up with his man, while Cissoko looked lost on many of his drops and turned the wrong direction more than a few times. I was yelling at the screen all day for Cissoko to get more safety help or at least be allowed to press his man off the line more.
