Championship Game Tickets - UM Allotment

Submitted by Kilgore Trout on December 6th, 2023 at 10:45 PM

I got the email from the Athletic Department a little after 5 today for championship game tickets.

  • 1000 or more points - up to 6 tickets
  • 500-999 points - up to 4 tickets
  • Less than 500 points - up to 3 tickets

Price range $475 - $1300(!!!)

That ticket price definitely ended any ideas I had of trying to go. Holy moly.

OP - if you don’t plan to attend, I’d be happy to buy 2 tickets off of you for what you pay or a bit more for your trouble

Can’t make it to the Rose Bowl, but would love the opportunity to see the game in Houston near face if possible.

Got the mail earlier this evening.  Until I saw the price I'd been determined to grab a pair of tickets.  Since, there is much consternation and unwise attempts to rationalize the purchase.  Like others I'm leery of being tagged with tickets in the middle to upper part of the range.

Go to Best Buy.  Spend that money on a BIG TV and surround sound speakers.

Food is cheaper.

Drinks are cheaper.

Line for bathroom is non-existant.

Sleep happily in your own bed after Michigan victory.

Joy over beating Alabama:  Priceless

I was at the Rose Bowl on Jan 1 1998 to witness our last national championship. Recall having to scrape together the money to afford to go, after convincing the wife it may be a once in a lifetime experience, and it was worth every penny.  I still have vivid memories of that whole day that will stay with me forever, as well as some photos of my friends and I celebrating in the stands and after the game that are priceless. If you are in the position that I was in back in 1997-1998, I would strongly suggest that you find a way to attend. Life is about experiences.

What if I reimbursed you for the tickets.  I don't have the points to likely get them, but am willing to pay for them.  Assuming they aren't upper bowl tickets.  I actually already have tickets that I bought secondary (3k a piece by the way), so if I could get $1300 tickets and even give you some money to the hassle, I could resell the ones I already bought to recoup and come out ahead.

Last year, the cutoff for getting tickets to the championship game was around 160 points, which was lower than I expected based on cutoffs for the Big Ten championship and Fiesta Bowl.  This could be a combination of a larger number of tickets set aside, being further away, and a potentially more expensive ticket. I am a bit under this unless I make some additional donations, but not that far off.  I would guess there will be more requests this year since we seem to have a better chance of winning this year and don’t have an injury to our best running back.
