CFB Risk Day 8 - WE NEED YOU TO AVENGE THE ORANGE BOWL (also, sparty's dead)

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on January 28th, 2023 at 1:18 PM

It's over for Sparty. Their small band of misfits attacked a little here, a little there, and wound up with nothing. They weren't close to favorites in any of their battles, and Lord RNG gave up on them. RIP Sparty.

You know where Lord RNG did decide to f*ck around? The Northeast USA. In Syracuse and Amherst, Georgia managed to gain/regain control with a combined force of 4. And these weren't lightly contested territories. The combined non-Georgia forces for those territories were 57.5. Syracuse especially is infuriating because Georgia had 28.5-to-1 odds.

Yes, a 1-star took the territory back from us. Meaning you have the power to win a territory for Michigan by signing up today.

Now let's get back to the Orange Bowl. Georgia beat us fair and square in that game. It wasn't a bad call or unfortunate bounce that lost it for us. They were just a very, very talented team.

That's decidedly not the case in Risk. Georgia has 79 soldiers with 107 stars of power. We have (as the biggest team in the game) 603 players with 1149 stars of power. No other team has 1000 stars. We should be dominating them, and we WILL be dominating them. Getting revenge shouldn't be an overwhelming challenge.

But....I'll let you in on a little secret. Don't tell anybody...

OPPOSING FANS HATE MICHIGAN (duh.)

When we get toward the end game, teams will gang up on us and try to destroy us. It happens every year. The only way to win despite the borderline psychotic vitriol is with numbers. We have to maintain our overwhelming lead, and we have to keep building our strength by playing every day. That's the only way we have a shot in this Michigan vs. The World battlefield.

Again, a ONE STAR kept Syracuse despite 28.5-to-1 odds against him. Your participation matters, because any one of our soldiers, whether they're a 5-star or a 1-star, could make the difference.

So, once again, Go Blue and f*ck everybody in our way!

Steps To Play Every Day

(1) Sign up for a reddit.com account if you don’t have one already

(2) Visit collegefootballrisk.com – Click Sign in with Reddit – Select Michigan as your team

(3) Join the Michigan Risk discord by going to https://discord.gg/9xtrWhyR

(4) Go to the "vetting" channel and type in your MGoBlog username and Reddit username.

(5) Once vetted, get your orders from the "orders" channel.

(6) Return to collegefootballrisk.com – Click on the blinking "target" icon at the bottom of the page (3rd button from the right), and then click on the territory you're attacking or defending.

(7) Talk trash with your fellow Wolverines as we prepare for tonight's roll.

How Does the Game Work?

It is up to each team to recruit players and coordinate moves. You can choose to defend any territory that your team currently holds or attack any adjacent territory. A "roll" happens each evening to calculate which teams have won which territories that turn based on the moves that were made by individual players. The ultimate goal is to conquer as much of the map as possible for your team. There are a number of different ways to do this, such as through recruiting players in sheer numbers or forming alliances with other teams.

Well, as EastCoast mentioned, we've got three or four Georgia-owned territories that we need to pick up -- three of them are necessary to get a region bonus for the next turn -- and at that point we'll have a few bridges to distant parts of the map that we can play with (Yukon over in western Canada, currently owned by UVa; and Greenville and Statesboro down the Atlantic Coast).

I'm sure our diplomats have a combined strategy to take out the Southern schools and I strongly suspect getting those bridges under control is a key part of it.

That said, even though we have an alliance with the rest of the B1G, every team has rogues and we're still going to need to defend our territories -- especially within the Canadian Shield region, since we want to retain that bonus once (if/when) we get it.

Where do we find out who our allies are?  It would help as I try to decide where to lend my 1-Star power.   Pretty soon, one of our "allies" will wish to plunge a knife in our back.  Is there a place where communication can be read between allies?

For the MGoParents out there - I've found this to be a fun activity to share with my son (now in 9th grade and he also participated in the prior risk games).

You don't need to go through the whole vetting process, just get them a Reddit account, share the orders and let them pick a move. Beyond simply helping the cause, I have had some very interesting and enjoyable strategy discussions with him, and it is something we look forward to connecting over each night.

Each region you wholly own appears to give every player an additional .5x power.  That is, if/when we get the Candian Shield, literally everything we do is worth 1.5x as much.  If we take a second region, it'd be 2x.

The Buckeyes already have this bonus since they've taken control of Ohio, which is the "Rust Belt" region.  We shouldn't have too much to worry about from them for a little while longer since we're in the alliance, but it'd be worth it to make sure we continue to own as many regions as they do so that we can keep our battlefield superiority when it eventually becomes necessary to confront them.

Adds a multiplier to all team player stars (attack and defend).  The equation is essentially original star power mullitiplied by (1+ 0.5×R), where R is the number of regions a team controls.  This is on top of other multipliers, such as the 1.5x multiplier for defending.

I didn't do a detailed look, but perhaps Notre Dame is down to one territory?  Not bordering our territory, but maybe they'll get taken out.

Pretty funny (to me anyway) that Virginia owns the Yukon.

UCF being ~ the same color is confusing.

ANNIHILATE GEORGIA!

We really really need active players to continue to recruit. While we're holding strong, OSU is gaining on us rapidly in terms of players and star power. Tell your family, friends, neighbors, etc that we need their strength!

Most people likely won't go through the trouble of creating a discord account/vetting process but, like someone in the thread has mentioned, just creating the Reddit account and contributing to the cause helps.

I saw your name in the vette channel. Hang in there, there's a back log also waiting. Once your vetted you should be able to see the "orders" channel to the left.  From there they will place orders of where to attack and defend. Until then just make moves that make sense to you. Just play.

There's no action on Sunday so you won't miss anything. Hopefully they can catch up a bit getting you guys vetted.
