That doesn't keep Urban from advising OSU...

Count me in the sad-but…

Count me in the sad-but-necessary camp. I so wanted this to work. It seemed like it was working... until it wasn't. Good that this happened now. One would hope that we have someone lined up already, and that should be the expectation, but I am not optimistic.

Agreed, so it's not a…

Agreed, so it's not a parallel on that level. Miracle on Ice truly an upset for the ages. Still remember it like it was yesterday.

WOW, I never knew that. I…

WOW, I never knew that. I had always thought that US-Finland was the final game in a single elimination medal round. Learn something new 44 years later!

Hence all the conversation…

Hence all the conversation that the NCG vs. Washington was our Finland after the more significant Rose Bowl game.

I caught a nice comment he…

I caught a nice comment he made on College Basketball Gameday (I actually never knew that was a thing until today, but no other sports on TV at 11:45 am): the only reason people go to Michigan State is that they didn't get into Michigan!

Completely agree about the…

Completely agree about the moment. Honestly, it's the single Bo/Moeller/Lloyd game that sticks out to me. And I attended a lot of them (albeit less after I graduated in 1994 and moved to that state down south). The emotion, hard to compare because it was so long ago and I was so young. I remember walking through the 100 Years of Michigan Football exhibit at Crisler with my Dad after that game, still on cloud nine.

Objectively, 1979 AC/Indiana…

Objectively, 1979 AC/Indiana doesn't make the top 10: not a rivalry, not for a championship, no way we should have been that close to Indiana anyway (even with Lee Corso coaching!). But it definitely makes my top 10 for Michigan sports attended because it marked the discovery of the forward pass by Bo and his eventual first Rose Bowl victory the next season. Watching the Wangler-AC connection was just electric! And then there is the Ufer call (which I didn't hear live as I was sitting at the south end zone that day, but it was replayed over and over in the intro for the first years of Sportswrap with Frank Beckmann on WJR)!

And he clearly did that in…

And he clearly did that in great pain, battered and bruised. Major props to Penix.

These are good tips. Some…

These are good tips. Some other tips during IRROPS:

  1. If our flight is canceled, try rebooking in the app while calling the airline while waiting in line for an airport agent. Do all three simultaneously. (If you have lounge membership, go there as agent lines are usually much shorter there, but if you do, I am assuming you know this already.)
  2. Reinforcing what J Redux said, agents are usually appreciate of suggestions if you can find alternate routings, particularly on their own airline.
Agree that it was a magical…

Agree that it was a magical experience. However, driving in and out was a pain. It took an hour to drive from the parade to parking (10:30-11:30) and over an hour to get out of the grounds, overall taking around 2 hours to get back to Santa Monica. This is basically what I expected from what I had read online. The next time I go, I will do what all the experienced hands had been suggesting: park in Pasadena, take shuttle to the game, and walk back to Pasadena after the game.

Where do you see how many…

Where do you see how many tickets on the secondary market? Stubhub shows 2180 now, and some sites don't seem to have that number. I definitely see the value in tracking that number even as the ticket resellers may manipulate it.

Wetzel seemed to be one of the few (only?) national journalists who had the right perspective of this from the beginning. He wrote this piece in early November.

Seemed closer to 70/30 (or more) for the good guys when looking at how many stayed for the entire trophy presentation.

Yes, these are great.

In a different direction, my kids loved Magna Tiles. Maybe 5-7 is too old for these, but I think of these like Legos.

Priced were even less than that a few days before. They definitely went up between mid-week and Saturday afternoon before the championship game.

Since you're local and don't…

Since you're local and don't need to purchase airplane tickets, just wait. It will keep getting cheaper. I don't know how long I could last before giving in, but the collective wisdom seems to suggest that the longer you're willing to wait, the lower prices will go.

My history:

2021: Amateur…

My history:

  • 2021: Amateur hour. Bought Orange Bowl tickets at literally peak time, 1:33 pm on Selection Sunday.
  • 2022: Was pretty confident about Fiesta, so I bought them Wednesday before Sunday. As a result, these were the best value tickets I bought during this three year run.
  • 2023: Was reasonably confident about the Rose, though all the talking heads and Reddit CFB posters had be concerned that Washington would get the top seed. It took a while longer to get the family aligned this year, so I didn't get around to getting tickets until Saturday afternoon. However, I forgot that Washington would be playing on Friday, so prices I paid for the Rose Bowl were higher than earlier in the week. Prices still went up 50% after the selection show.

I am not clear what to do in the future if it is not clear which bowl Michigan will be going to. All these crazy fees make it financially punitive to buy speculatively and resell, but it also is a bit anxiety-producing to plan the trip but not get the game tickets until weeks later.

Absolutely not comparing…

Absolutely not comparing playing careers. Juwan was a model citizen his entire playing career back to his days in AA and through his Heat coaching career, which is what makes the recent events even more perplexing as discussed here and on umhoops. And yes, it's an issue of controlling emotions, different than Draymond, but what caught me was that as with DG, there has been aggression directed both internally and externally, if what we hear has any truth. I am not happy about this, it's just the facts.

Back to the topic at hand: Draymond is a punk.

Looking back to the Jordan…

Looking back to the Jordan Poole punch, it isn't hard to see how he is who he is, whether with teammates or opponents. He has anger control issues. And there's a bit of an eerie parallel to a situation far closer to home.

Cool! I can guess who you are by your username.

Yeah, that was disappointing…

Yeah, that was disappointing. I was going to invite a couple friends not attending the game, but oh well!

They don't seem sold out now…

Definitely not sold out as of right now (the Alumni Association tailgate).

This one. I think you and…

This one. I think you and ignore the outdated URL as this is the current, official web site.

According to the game web…

According to the game web site, ride shares are not allowed at the stadium. You need to take the free shuttle or walk to town, and hail an Uber/Lyft from there. So to me, this adds time but doesn't change the fact, as others have said, that thousands will have the same idea. I second the car rental idea. Rates seem really reasonable (albeit out of LAX).

He actually wouldn't be a…

He actually wouldn't be a bad guy to bring in to compete for the starting role if JJ goes to the NFL. Think about it: experienced starter, high floor.

Eons ago, the team stayed at the Campus Inn the night before home games. When did that stop?

Surprised Maryland is so…

Surprised Maryland is so high (even with win 1000), and Michigan State is so low (even though... rivalry). Supports that MSU does not need to be a protect rivalry if we stay in the BIG.

Last year, Fiesta Bowl…

Last year, Fiesta Bowl ticket prices peaked in the hours after the selection show . Of course, that when I bought them. I wonder if this will be the same dynamic this year.

...to tie the game at 17... …

...to tie the game at 17... (not 24). Tie game at 24 would have killed me.

Honestly, when I got home…

Honestly, when I got home and watched the broadcast replays, it was a lot closer than I thought. In the stadium (south endzone), there was no doubt.

Forget trying not to look…

Forget trying not to look idiotic. I think a very reasonable take at this point is he needs to do this if he wants to try to salvage his job.

Bought a pass there, too, but now debating if I should get another one where I won’t be stuck for a while after the game and just chalk up this one as a loss.

Question out of ignorance: what else could have been run to beat this defense? Seems play action wouldn't be that effective. More screen passes?

Description sort of sounds like GRIII.

I cannot stop watching it…

I cannot stop watching it over and over and over. Just mesmerizing. The emotion. Thanking everyone from Ono to alumni (and even Warde) in addition to Harbaugh and players, of course. Pure raw emotion, but couldn't have scripted it any better.

Great job all coaches! Is there somewhere we can watch postgame interviews live?

Could mgoblog commission a petition that we leave the BIG? Asking mgoblog writers because it needs to be well written. I understand that it may be unlikely to happen, and it’s maybe even unwise, but something like this will send a clear message to the BIG without burdening Ono and everyone else now. Let’s send a message!

I haven't been to Angelos in…

I haven't been to Angelos in YEARS, since my med school days in the 90's. But I will be in town for OSU. Any idea how early I need to show up on a Sat or Sunday to avoid waiting in a long line?

At least with a fine (vs. a suspension), we won't need a restraining order. But it can (and should) still be appealed.

Could be argued this is newsworthy enough to post, but just copy/paste text. Don't post the link and drive clicks.

And if this happened, it…

And if this happened, it sure sounds like we would fight this. The reasons outlined against action will not have changed, and Michigan/Harbaugh are not messing around.

Fascinating (if accurate) which other schools were considered by the BIG this time around: Notre Dame, North Carolina, Clemson, Florida State, Pitt, Kansas, Cal, Stanford, Arizona, Virginia, Oregon, and Washington.

The Opponent Watch from last year describing D'Antonio's Michigan-hating machine gone haywire is still one of my all-time favorite posts here. Succinctly accurate.
