CC: i hate rosenberg, but i believe he has better sources than the big lead

Submitted by ish on

and it appears those sources are telling him that the big lead is wrong:

i just don't think the big lead could outscoop all of the michigan area sources.  and we haven't heard anything from the bay area confirming this.  take it FWIW.

and don't hate me for posting the print version of a rosenberg article - it's still a source.

EDIT: I'm told the link above is not working.  Try this:

Rosenberg doesn't have good sources. He is a hack just like all of the other Freep writers. His only sources were connected to Carr and that's why he was so bitter the last time around. I won't consider any sources to be very credible until after the game tonight when Harbaugh is officially talking to people.

LOL did you even read the article?  It is not an expose on Jim Harbaugh. There are a couple short quotes from him in the entire article and it's not something Rosenberg directly asked him.  Just because you write an article about the Stanford football team does not mean you have great sources there.  I could've written the exact same article and I have no sources there.

no, i'm not predicting anything.  i've just read two stories - in one things btwn us and JH fell apart, and in the other, they didn't.  i'm just believing the one that says they didn't.  i don't have inside information.  i just think rosenberg knows more than the big lead.

look, i don't like him, i don't like that he turned his back on his alma mater (and my alma mater), and i don't like that in addition to his backstabbing, he wrote a poorly investigated story filled with exaggerations, half-truths and nonsense.  i just think that in this instance he may know something, or that at least he knows more than the big lead.

That's not the big Sports Illustrated feature on Harbaugh you're referring to. There was one specifically about Harbaugh and his competitiveness, background and coaching career ... it ran sometime in November, IIRC.

I got the impression from that story that Rosenberg is fairly friendly with Harbaugh, so in this case, I wouldn't doubt that he actually has a little more insight that others (as irritating as it is).

1) Stay away from the CC chatter completely

2) Dive in completely and accept that it will be a big emotional roller coaster ride

3) Check in every few hours or once a day to see how much lunacy has transpired

I hope to get the word first on MGoBlog of the real news but until then I think we all have to choose how we live with the rumors and related chatter.

Here it is

1) James is leaving Stanford

2) Brandon has clearly made JH an offer which he hasn't turned down

3) NFL teams have done the same.

4) James has a game tonight

5) As Rosenberg said, I guarantee James wants both 2 & 3 but he obviously needs to choose and won't let any hints fly until, likely, tomorrow at the earliest.

Until then, let the rumor-mongering commence but I would LOVE to be a fly on the wall in the room of whomever is fielding the calls from Brandon, the 49ers, Elway and whomever else is trying to get in on the James Harbaugh sweepstakes.

I get your point.  "Clearly" is not a great choice of word, but how can you disagree with the man?

If RR was DB's guy, there would have been an announcement made.  Granted, that COULD happen at tomorrow night's meeting, but that's well wishing for even the strongest of RR fans (for those who are left).

Still - we haven't heard anything.  Multiple NFL sources are "hearing" JH to either Michigan, San Fran, Denver, etc.  He's being contacted by these places, like it or not.  It's sort of one of those "should be blatently obvious" scenarios that don't take much detective work to figure out.

The bottom line is that if Harbaugh still wants to fulfill his dreams of being both U-M's head coach and an NFL head coach over the course of his career, he has to take the U-M job now--there is a very strong chance he will never have another opportunity at it.

The program is down right now with a pretty horrifying half decade behind us (although that Capital One Bowl over Florida still brings good memories) but this is still Michigan, still the winningest program in college football, still the Big House (now with luxury boxes for all), still the measuring stick. A down period takes none of that away just as it did not for Alabama during the Price/Shula debacle era...

Harbaugh has to know he may have a shot at the NFL down the road but if he passes on Michigan now he won't see that shot again for a coach of his generation.

I also think the fact that we are down makes the job even more attractive. Jim always loved the spotlight and making a splash. He turns this around and makes us a power, he'll be immortal here.

I still say Michigan is one of the great jobs in sports and as Rosenberg pointed out, secure if you are successful. Plus success is way more within his power at Michigan then it will ever be in the NFL.  You can win with an Alex Smith type player in college, but in the NFL, not so much.

You can see right through Rosenburg. He wants so badly for this to happen that he is just trying to convice us and himself that Harbaugh is coming. I just have this feeling that if U-M gets Harbaugh, Mr. Rosenburg will go back to writing flattering articles about the team. I see a lot of people forgiving him for his past transgressions against the program once he is writing fluff articles about the team.

What is the better alternative?  Have Rosenburg continue to shoot down UofM coaches?

I won't ever forget what he did, but if we can get him to stop being an anti-UofM sh*tbag, then I could probably forgive him at some point.

Well yeah it would be better I suppose, but it just goes to show the type of agenda he has. I just prefer fair articles. You don't have put a positive spin on everything to make me appreciate your writing. Don't be a homer, but don't be a hater.

Beavis

I agree 100% on the homer/hater issue.

I look at it like this:

We're already in this mess, and if we can get out of it, and everyone just sort of "forgets" 2008-2010 (except for the Denard awesomeness), then I can accept that.  If we get a new coach, and he continues to fail - then I think everyone can continue to throw Rosenburg under the bus for "what could have been with RR at UofM".

All that Rosenburg did was very "Scott Templeton-like" (if you don't get this reference, then I'm sorry for you - go buy The Wire RIGHT NOW).  And we know in this world that the Scott Templetons can (and do often) succeed.  Doesn't make him any less of a sh*t-bird.  But if we can get out of this hole, I'm ready to not be pissed at the man anymore.

GVBlue86

January 3rd, 2011 at 1:58 PM ^

Well I am back to work after the week off and am bored so I am going to take a guess at the reference:

There was a a sought after position (or something equivalent) of great influence and someone was placed in that position that Mr. Templeton did not like. He knew this person was not right for this position so he tried his best to sabatoge this persons job. He knew someone else would be better and would succeed in the long run over this current person. His motives were for the common good of all involved. So person gets fired and Templetons guy gets put in place and everything turns out great.

Close I hope?

Sadly I have not seen the Wire, or Entourage, or any other of those hip shows :(.

Other than that I can understand your position and I would probably end up feeling the same way over time. Although now, I don't want to ever accept him again.

....Is Rosenberg any different than many of us right now . Again, the reality is that many people think that RR should be gone, and, if that happens, James is the best hire by far both because he's one of ours and his coaching record and because of the likely question marks that would be attached to literally ANYONE else.

Not blaming you for posting this as clearly it is all we really have to talk about until the hoops game Wednesday night, but every sports writer repeating the opinions of some super secret insider vaguely associated with Michigan or an NFL team courting Jim Harbaugh remains a pretty useless exercise.

The only two guys whose opinions matter are Dave Brandon and potentially Jim Harbaugh.  Neither seem like blabbermouths and neither have said a word publicly.

I'm not sure if this is the one that was posted, but give this a try (it's a print link).

EDIT: Never mind, I'm too late it's already posted.

Also, the suspense is killing me. As much as I want there to be a decision, I want DB to take the time to make the right call. God I hope he'll make the right call, I want this decade to go better than the last.

What a panicky love-letter to Jim Harbaugh!  You'd think Rosenberg's "news" reporting was being ghostwritten by Harbaugh's agent!  I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like that before.

It also sounds like Rosenberg is reading MGoBlog, particularly this thread:

Have a nice day, Mike.  You're truly a stain on our University.
