DaveBrandonAD Dave BrandonGreat first day for our new coach--saw 20+ players and Denard is staying! The Team, The Team, The Team!!!

Hoke cleared the first milestone.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:24 PM ^
staying is awesome! I hope he can be as successful putting the recruiting class back together as well.
January 13th, 2011 at 10:32 PM ^
Hilarious, but borderline NSFW.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:01 PM ^
Brandon and Hoke wouldn't say Denard is coming back unless they are certain. I'll sleep better tonight.

Exciting time for DB, this hiring could be what defines his term as AD depending on how it turns out.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:07 PM ^
Either way it WILL define his term as AD.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:25 PM ^
Yea, you're right, either way this will define his time as AD. I just wasn't as definitive so I could leave room for something non-coach related. Like adding more seats to big house, new basketball stadium, or something.... but this move will likely trump anything else he could possibly do
January 13th, 2011 at 10:26 PM ^
No, if he added more seats, it would totally eclipse whoever the coach is.
January 14th, 2011 at 12:29 AM ^
Couldn't be more clear than your statement. I personally will always have a special little place in my heart for DB...Night game in The Big House :)
January 13th, 2011 at 9:11 PM ^
He's now 1-0 in press conferences. Add a strong finish to the recruiting season mixed in with some fantastic coordinator hires and this could be the quick start this program really needs to be relevant that last game in November, then maybe nationally.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:05 PM ^
Reassuring but I don't think I'll fully relax until I see Denard on the field until September.

Now please pull some snake oil and get Frost and others.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:06 PM ^
is having a pretty good start to the season. Maybe he can go see Bo and Fielding to get some devine wisdom. Anyone know where Oosterbaan is buried?
January 13th, 2011 at 9:37 PM ^
Who has mad photoshop skills and wants to make Force Ghosts of Bo, Yost, and Crisler advising Brady Hoke? If done well I'd imagine that has some banner potential. I can cut and paste but lack the skills to give something like that justice.
January 13th, 2011 at 11:47 PM ^
Unless you meant Dan Devine, but to hell with Notre Dame.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:07 PM ^
Ironic. 20+ players and specifically Denard. Yet, "The Team, The Team, The Team!!!"
(Also note the gratutitous use of exclamation points)
January 13th, 2011 at 9:24 PM ^
The team, the team, the team .. is a compliment to Denard.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:45 PM ^
Kelvin Grady's tweet the other day also suggested this.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:31 PM ^
you know team with an 'I' and a "nard".....
January 13th, 2011 at 9:38 PM ^
It may be that there is no I in team, but there is an I in WIN.
January 14th, 2011 at 12:27 AM ^
In many respects, Denard IS the team. He is the current face, the hope and the spirit of Michigan football.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:09 PM ^
so this is indeed a good start. Now he needs to keep the rest of the team, hire the rest of his staff (and hopefully bring some names we know), keep the rest of the commits, and fill out the class. Lot of work.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:09 PM ^
Does anybody else find it a little strange that our AD is tweeting about specific players?
I'm really mixed. I'm glad DB is taking a hands on approach, but it does seem a little weird.
If you guys think I'm not thinking straight.. just slap me upside the head.
PS.. great news tho!
January 13th, 2011 at 9:11 PM ^
Its amazing to me that mgoblog hasn't gotten twitter on its side page or front. Wouldn't it just be logical?
January 13th, 2011 at 9:26 PM ^
it is strange that he is specifically talking about Denard staying, seeing that all he talked about was how no player is bigger than the program.. i.e.. the recruiting disaster with losing Hart etc..
January 13th, 2011 at 10:08 PM ^
It is a bit odd, he could have said everyone is staying. I, for one, like to see the name "Denard" and "staying" together, it's just reassuring. Denard is a special player with a team first attitude, it's not like this kind of thing would go to his head.
January 13th, 2011 at 10:28 PM ^
He probably can't guarantee that every single player will stay. Forcier may never return, for starters.
January 13th, 2011 at 10:44 PM ^
good point. I think his guilty conscience kicked in - that's why he finished with The Team, The Team, The Team!!!
Is he suggesting that RR was not concerned about "the team"?
January 13th, 2011 at 10:55 PM ^
I think the combination of him being reigning Big Ten POY, a change in offensive scheme when the previous one fit him like a glove, and him being one of the most exciting players in all of college football to watch all play into his name being brought up specifically. Nothing to do with any player being bigger than the program, there's just a lot of factors as to why everyone was on pins and needles whether Denard was staying or not.
January 13th, 2011 at 10:24 PM ^
Think DB is definitely showing signs of stress and fatigue. He's taken a lot of shit for this coaching search, obviously riding high on every victory at this point. Not a very diplomatic thing to say though, or tweet, if you're the schools AD. He needs to be above day-to-day player issues, at least publicly.
January 13th, 2011 at 11:49 PM ^
and let Hoke be the public face of the football program.
January 13th, 2011 at 11:06 PM ^
Kinda weird/inappropriate but comforting nonetheless.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:12 PM ^
shouldnt the question be "is he going to play quarterback?" Instead of "is he staying?" I dont see how his staying but being moved elsewhere is much of a victory outside the fact that we all like having him around but i want a dreaded quarterback not a dreaded james rogers here-there-everywhere cornerback/wr master of nothing.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:21 PM ^
Just guessing, but Denard has made no secret of the fact that he wants to play QB. When he was being recruited other teams said they would move him but RR promised QB. I feel like he wouldn't commit to staying here if that wasn't part of the deal.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:25 PM ^
There is not enough depth at QB to move Denard to another position. And why would you move your BEST QB to a different spot. Hoke has said in several interviews that Denard is gonna play quarterback.
January 13th, 2011 at 10:12 PM ^
Devin Gardner looks like the real deal.
Plus its all about Denard staying healthy and lasting a whole season.
January 13th, 2011 at 10:12 PM ^

January 13th, 2011 at 9:30 PM ^
...along the lines of "There is no reason that he can't be Michigan's Quarterback next season".
And considering what on the roster, unless Devin Gardner undergoes incredible progress *and* Denard stands still, there isn't really anyone to replace him with as Denard is, at this point, a good bit better than Devin at this point in time (no knock on Devin Gardner, I think he'll be a great one but I think he needs another year of seasoning).
January 13th, 2011 at 9:31 PM ^
January 13th, 2011 at 9:12 PM ^
Also would love...to hear it from Denard's mouth. Who can make this happen? Make it happen NOW!
January 13th, 2011 at 9:16 PM ^
I have had a HORRIBLE day (like, Mississippi State just scored again horrible) and this made it all go away. GO BLUE!!!!!
January 13th, 2011 at 9:16 PM ^
If Denard makes as big a jump from year 2-3 as he did from year 1-2, I want him as our QB. If he plateaus or falls off this year, it'll be time to look at a position change for his senior year..

January 13th, 2011 at 11:36 PM ^
He likes turtles!!
January 13th, 2011 at 9:36 PM ^
What on earth has thou smoked this day.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:20 PM ^
Hmmm.... Am I the only one who thinks Michigan football is a little too much about David Brandon? He has insinuated himself into the day-to-day details of the football program like no other AD (except, maybe, Bo).
January 13th, 2011 at 9:28 PM ^
Let Hoke and the team have the stage now.
January 13th, 2011 at 9:33 PM ^
And am I the only one who thinks they're too much about Denard? I know he's really important to our team but to focus so much on one player isn't really the team, the team the team.
