Just plain awful. But who cares. Beilein is love, Beilein is life
January 25th, 2014 at 9:22 PM ^
It was horrible, but makes the win that much more satisfying. I wanna go Richard Sherman on Sparty and the refs right now.
January 25th, 2014 at 9:24 PM ^
It's like the game turned around then. Another great job by Beilein and his TEAM
January 25th, 2014 at 9:25 PM ^
Everyone should complain to the conference office. That was a disgrace to the game, the kids, coaches, and the fans. Just fucking awful, awful, garbage.
January 25th, 2014 at 9:26 PM ^
Terrible, terrible, terrible job by the refs.
January 25th, 2014 at 9:37 PM ^
But tremendous, tremendous, tremendous job playing through it (despite a few moments where Michigan players almost snapped at bad calls) and keeping their heads together.
January 25th, 2014 at 9:27 PM ^
The final foul shots were pretty even, but only because MSU had to foul at the end. Insane that UM has gone into Kohl and Breslin and emerged with wins given how crappy the officiating tends to be toward road teams there. Great week.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:09 PM ^
the big ten in general sticks the away team... At this point we have beat wiscy, state, and minny on the road.
awesome baby!!!
January 25th, 2014 at 9:28 PM ^
As bad as they were, Beilein got on them and got us some calls in Breslin that normally go Izzo's way. Hail Beilein.
January 25th, 2014 at 9:44 PM ^
I agree. State was getting some ridiculous calls. Finally, late in the 2nd half the officiating was more even-handed. I have to believe Beilein's attitude had something to do with that. Izzo whines and complains even when the calls are going his way.
January 25th, 2014 at 9:30 PM ^
The Spike timeout may have been the most egregious ref "mistake" I have ever seen.
January 25th, 2014 at 9:32 PM ^
hope we get a gif of that ref standing right over Spike and not giving the timeout
January 25th, 2014 at 9:41 PM ^
It was pretty bad at times for 32 minutes (though not as bad as many here might think) The second half for 10 minutes was the worst in my mind. Then, around the 6-8 minute remaing mark I think they started to make a few calls that should have been done the whole game. I also think they finished the game well in the last 2 minutes in calling stuff that needed to be called i.e. instead of letting a mugging happen yet calling it a steal.
It sucks that, in that what I consider good should just be par for the course, but it's not, we know this. It was a pretty hard game to watch in regards to the officiating and how Sparty was able to do things we weren't. Sparty is good defensively, lost in all this talk is that fact, and in a way, it's too bad.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:47 PM ^
It's awfully hard to say if a player is good or bad defensively if he's allowed to grab ahold of who he's defending, hand check, etc. Michigan State was down a pair of starters, but at the same time I don't think we got an honest representation of their skills.
January 25th, 2014 at 9:41 PM ^
I thought I was watching two sets of refs, what was call on Michigan was completely different than what was called on State. The Big Ten should be embarrassed.
January 25th, 2014 at 9:36 PM ^
I thought i was watching two sets of refs, what was call on Michigan was completely different than what was called os State. The Big Ten should be embarrassed.

at the Breslin. What more could we ask for.
2014 is unbelievable.
January 25th, 2014 at 9:37 PM ^
to slapped down with some suspensions or sumthing...

Morgan had maybe two real fouls the whole game.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:02 PM ^
I agree. Morgan got it worse than anyone else.
January 25th, 2014 at 11:20 PM ^
I wish I had a picture of it, but early in the game there was a shot of Beilein and Morgan (maybe Horford?) arguing with the refs about grabbing jerseys and Morgan's jersey had a huge rip right down the middle. I saw that and knew we were in for a long night with some shitty officiating.
January 25th, 2014 at 9:50 PM ^
I was baffled by the replay showing Spartan defenders getting nothing but arm and body to strip the ball away from Walton and Dickie V. calling it a clean steal. At least the refs got that one right.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:55 PM ^
January 26th, 2014 at 8:18 AM ^
to have been in the top five of comments that Dickie V. had that pissed me off the most...
January 26th, 2014 at 11:49 AM ^
I wanted to climb through my tv on that one and pimp slap that senile old man.
January 25th, 2014 at 9:56 PM ^
Is Izzo seriously complaining about calls? Unbelievable.
January 26th, 2014 at 7:09 AM ^
He said he had to take poor precious Keith out of the game because of the technical.
January 25th, 2014 at 9:56 PM ^
My throat hurts from yelling at the refs. Those guys sucked!!!
January 25th, 2014 at 10:01 PM ^
SUBS!!!
January 25th, 2014 at 10:07 PM ^
and never in control. I've never seen Beilein that angry.
That is triumph in the face of adversity - contending with a good opposing team and the refs.

January 25th, 2014 at 10:36 PM ^
I was wondering if someone with more time on their hands than I could put together a youtube video of all the terrible calls during this game, for both sides.
January 25th, 2014 at 10:36 PM ^
The refs were complete garbage. I can't even count how many terrible calls were missed and ignored
January 25th, 2014 at 10:49 PM ^
They asked Morgan at the end of his interview tonight when his shorts got ripped. His reply, "probably on one of the plays where they called a foul on me, but whatever." Hilarious but probably true.

Good for him. I'm still pissed.
January 25th, 2014 at 11:17 PM ^
What's more hilarious is Sparty fans bitching about the refs on RCMB.
January 25th, 2014 at 11:44 PM ^
Its just amazing what goes for referring these days. As a perfect example, look at Morgan's fifth foul. Not only was that not a foul, but I'm 100% certain Morgan didn't even touch anyone. Its one thing to let the 50/50 calls go to the home team but to just make up fouls or ignore blatant contact is another thing.
January 26th, 2014 at 12:43 AM ^
I fart in their general direction.
January 26th, 2014 at 1:11 AM ^
There's npthong more pathetic than whining about referees.
January 26th, 2014 at 2:22 AM ^
For the milliionth time.
There are no such thing as B1G conference basketball officials.
College basketball officials are not tied to conferences like they are in football, hockey, and other sports. They work (usually, more or less) regionally.
January 26th, 2014 at 2:57 AM ^
Whoooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
January 26th, 2014 at 2:59 AM ^
If they wan to call a fair game. Everythinng was a foul agiainst us, but good physical, B1G basketball with them. Call a fair game, forgodsakes.
January 26th, 2014 at 3:07 AM ^
The refs were awful tonight. Michigan really got shafted, however I will admit that MsU got screwed once or twice but overall the refs were probally about worth +6 points for MSU.
January 26th, 2014 at 8:15 AM ^
Maybe this is not unusual, but early-ish in 2nd half, after Harris (IIRC) hit a driving layup and tumbled/rolled across the baseline as his shot went in, M quickly inbounded the ball and Walton pushed quickly back the other way (since they had numbers with Harris having to recover). When they showed a replay of this (shortly thereafter), the ref on the baseline reached out and helped Harris get to his feet.
Nice gesture and all, but, it struck me as quite odd that a ref would intervene like that (aren't they supposed to officiate and not assist?). Or is this not unusual and just a nice gesture?
January 26th, 2014 at 8:20 AM ^
I'd bet that Harris is related to him or a good friend of his family....
