Bad news...Dawkins would have made a big leap next year and now hes gone...Bring back SPIKE!  I cant bear to see him in a uniform other than Michigan  its just NOT RIGHT!

We all love Spike, but he had major reconstructive surgery on BOTH hips. You know, the largest joints on the body. The fact that he even tried to play early in the season is crazy. I know because I had ONE of mine done a few years ago and never recovered. Had to get the emmeffer replaced to get it right. Assuming he will be healthy enough to play basketball at a high level again is a big gamble.

Not a basketball guru ... Can someone explain to me... Is it our "system" that stops high profile athletic type top tier kids from coming to us or sticking with us?? Or is it just that coach just runs too clean of a program?
Enlighten me someone.

One of the biggest factors, imo, is how Beilein approaches the high profile athletes. He doesn't offer right away, taking the more "wait and see" approach. Meanwhile, 25+ offers roll in and that particular recruit establishes relationships with whom they perceive wants them most and/or which situation suits them best. Coach B doesn't seem to embrace the "one-and-done" system either. A lot of these blue chips want to start right away, showcase their talent, and move on. I really think Beilein wants 2+ years with the understanding each player earns his position.

Ok so what is happening with his scholarship? If Spike is really gone then what is the plan? Unless Beilein is using it on a grad transfer who can play right away or on a new freshman we haven't heard about then this is another fuck up. Using if for a another transfer who has to sit a year is no good. This team needs help now.

I would say if Beilein thinks Kam is developing and can take Aubrey's minutes in the rotation this season, he should bank the scholly for 2017 rather than rush around looking for a last minute option for 2016.

I too want that. But short of a Josh Jackson level miracle, the only thing at this point to do for 2016 is a transfer or an unsigned three star. You really think we're getting a impact player (more than Kam that is) through a transfer? If we do get a transfer, I would like it to be a grad transfer so we can have an additional scholarship for 2017.

he's a decent ballhandler, passer and rebounder for his size.  if he continues to improve his shot this offseason, he can easily play 5-10 qualtity minutes.  JB likes to have a lefty on that right corner on offense.

shot selection will improve too. I think he'd be in line for more than 10 minutes a game. He could free Irvin up to play some minutes at the 3 or even the 2. Beilein didn't have many ways to vary his lineup this season with Irvin locked in at the 4. Hopefully Wilson can step up his game too, but Chatman looked a lot closer to me.

to Aubrey.  I think it will be a better fit for him as he will get more of an opportunity on the court to fix his defensive and ball skill limitations.

Only three options for this open scholarship in my opinion:
1. Sign a top 100 player (99% chance this does not happen.)
2. Bring back Spike. As we learned with Max, if we have an open scholarship, keep the 5th year guy.
3. If the sides have mutually agreed to part ways (Spike and Beilein), then hold onto the scholarship. Do not sign a middling 3 star wing hoping we hit.

Do not use this scholarship on a '16 recruit unless he's big time. Don't tie our hands with another Wilson level player for 4 years, when we can have at least 3 openings for next year's class.

The decision to let Max walk. Unless you think Max would have played none of Donnal's minutes and Donnal and Doyle wouldn't have taken any of Mo's minutes, then he would have gotten very little playing time. Shit, for as far as he came throughout the year, he still didn't improve enough to actually stay in the game. He had a huge impact in the ND tourney game and he only played 8 minutes and had 4 fouls

Isn't that the point? Had Max stayed, and this is my assumption, he would have been the starter. That bumps Donnal and Doyle down a spot and leaves Mo to most likely redshirt. Max leaving hurt the team this year, which means that JB didn't make the right decision.

starter. A reasonable chance that he would have played far less than he did for IU. At 6'6", he was a devensive liability at the 5 with little room for improvement there. People seemed to forget how little he actually played here. If he could play the 4 in our system, that would have been his best spot.

I don't understand so many people wanting Spike back. I realize we all love him as a player, but would he really help us be a better team next year than we would be without him? I think we need some help around the rim a bit more.

does it count as practice time if a dad works with his kid on improving his handle (or improving his D) during the summer...if said dad is the coach?

Huh someone speculated about this in that OT Thread when Dawkins was hired at UCF and was negged to oblivion. Maybe go buy a lottery ticket today

I assume this is why Beilein kicked the tires on Josh Jackson a few weeks ago. I find this unlikely to happen, but I do wonder why Jackson hasn't committed or signed with anyone yet.

It seems like the general tone of alot of ppl about Dawkins is "good riddance", as if its a huge relief he is gone.

I am not saying its a crushing loss or anything, just surprised more people are not upset about him leaving.

Looking at some stats for last year, Dawkins shot 44% from 3, Duncan Robinson, our beloved sharpshooter, shot 45%. Now Dawkins only had 100 attempts to Duncan's 211, but still, the kid could shoot the 3 ball.

And before people think he did most of his damage against the crappy non-conference slate, he was 26/52 in B1G Play, which is 50%.

Just saying he would have been the 2nd best 3p shooter(% wise) returning next year(Caris was ahead of him slightly).

I will say though, that like Doyle, his loss might be addition by subtraction as far as Defense goes. Those 2 were arguably the worst defenders on the team(Duncan showed improvement late in the year). So the team defense hopefully will improve just without them here.
