Submitted by drakemc on
Just heard from a friend who is a BIG Florida Gator fan that 5 players involved in potential credit card fraud...one of them might be Callaway. Apparently bought iwatches and then tried to report their cards stolen.

Strangely enough, I was at the Toledo Zoo when this news came across my Twitter feed and Toledo, being such a cosmopolitan place, had a Florida fan on the bench next to me who was engrossed in his phone and actually exclaimed, "FUCK!". I could only guess, based on what I was skimming on my own feed, what all that was about.

This makes it sound like it's not a criminal issue. The cards were issued to them by the school, but they bought stuff that wasn't allowed and sold it. Reminds me of bama players selling their textbooks several years back. Not illegal, but an NCAA and school violation. I'd expect no impact on the starters outside of Calloway since he's already on strike three

The article says "It's not that bad" but the players essentially committed fraud.  The players merely proved they can ripoff their own University and generally get away with it.  Had they done the exact same thing with a credit card from a bank, they'd be in jail.

Bonehead (and immoral) move, and they should all pay. But as this touches us, I hope that they all play. We are going to kill them either way, and we don't need to have that win devalued for us.

They will play, but does this not sound a bit like the things that got OSU in trouble? Players selling team-issued benefits, and the team being aware of it and not taking any action?

no code of conduct enforcement for key players. Tressel was gone shortly thereafter given the lack of team controls.

Call me a shitty person, but I'm happy. When the sec changed it's rules to specifically own the path for malik to go to Florida I was pissed. This institution known as the sec is a damn joke.

he is going to get that whole team trouble as he is a bad dude - sexual assault accusations, hangs out with drug dealers, and now credit card fraud. The University is playing with fire keeping that guy on the team and looking away at every infraction. This is like the third criminal act in 12 months. What is next? https://www.alligatorarmy.com/2017/5/18/15658068/antonio-callaway-cited…

Person close to the Florida program stated the university repaid Best Buy and will handle the situation internally. Talk about a complete and utter joke.....other universities have had players suspended by NCAA for much less but won't touch the "mighty sec". Kinda like how espn kowtows to them as well....
