2020 RB recruiting over?
It appears that M’s 2020 recruiting for the RB position may be over (barring any late risers) with “just” Corum and Dennis (RB/slot).
I am not a member of the premium sites but saw a headline about a M RB target off the board and that led me to find that Kyle Edwards (RB #346 overall from Louisiana) has committed to ‘Bama. Edwards had been considered a lean to ‘Bama throughout the process but experts thought they may run out of room. Recent CBs for a 5-star back to UGA apparently freed-up the space.
Edwards and Toafili (4-star from Florida committed to FSU) were the top remaining targets after the Corum commit and both are now off the board.
Barring a large amount of attrition, scholarships are going to be tight for 2020 but I still felt like it would be nice to add a second “true” RB to the Corum and Dennis combo. FWIW - Steve Lorenz said on a recent 247 podcast that the Toafili commit to FSU may have been more of a “spot-saver” and that M will continue recruiting him under he signs...

Who cares about RB. A couple of CB’s would be nice...

Forget CBs, Don Brown has spent the last 40 years carefully planning his revolutionary all safety defense that is gonna blow your mind next year!

Yeah, unless it’s a can’t miss type of recruit, I feel like there are more pressing needs.

And some zoning ones too hopefully!

They are still recruiting Marvin Scott

and Josh Jacobs’ younger brother, Isaiah Jacobs

Plus they have a full high school season to find a few diamonds in the rough

FWIW Scott appears to be announcing tomorrow with Nebraska with the crystal balls at 100%.

Spots are going to be limited in the 2020 class from here on out. I'm hopeful they'll be after CB and DT, and beyond that only taking players if they appear to be exceptional, must-take guys like Theo Johnson.
RB depth is likely a survivable holdout with Turner/Charbonnet leading the way again next year, Haskins, BVS and others backing them up, and Corum coming in. If they can land Donovan Edwards in 2021 and one other quality RB in the 2021 class they should be ok, given RB is a position where it's easy to contribute early as long as you can pick up pass blocking quickly.
May also depend on RB carry distribution and if a guy like Giles Jackson or an Eamonn Dennis and others will end up seeing significant usage from the backfield in the future. TBD on the Gattis-effect, check back in a few weeks.

J. Giles Jackson, please.

Over?
Did you say 'over'?
Nothing is over until WE decide it is!
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
Hell no!...
It ain't over now, 'cause when the goin' gets tough, the tough get goin'.
Who's with me?
Let's go!
Come on!

the German's bombed Pearl Harbor?
Let him go, he's on a roll.

Give him some slack. In Iowa, anything can be imaginable..

TOGA! TOGA! TOGA!

I'd rather focus on CB in 2020. Corey Kiner in 2021 at RB is the top in Ohio. I'd focus on him.

Michigan’s too 3 for 2021 seems to be Donovan Edwards, Corey Kiner, and Evan Pryor. I think Edwards is a must and considering that OSU is after Kiner and Edwards as well, I see Kiner going to OSU. If Michigan is able to land Pryor or some other back in 2021 (maybe Jaylen Anderson from Ohio), I’d see that as a very successful haul.

Isn’t 2021 RB Donovan Edwards the top RB recruit?
August 23rd, 2019 at 1:42 PM ^
He is and Kiner and Edwards would make one helluva reload at the position-Michigan wants both. That 2021 class has the makings of a great one-from the offensive side at least.

Edwards is reportedly the #1 RB on OSU's board for 2021 too, so it's looking like another classic recruiting showdown between the two of us.

Check back in March. We'll know then.

Sam did confirm the other day on TMI that Michigan will keep recruiting Toafili.

Not until the fat lady sings.

Hmm, they are running out of back prospects, you don't say?
August 23rd, 2019 at 1:36 PM ^
I hope that Edwards enjoys riding the bench for 4 years behind like 5 guys in Bama's backfield
August 23rd, 2019 at 8:15 PM ^
Wild guess that Toafili picks UM after a crappy FSU season. Regardless, Donovan Edwards will hopefully go Blue and the Charbonnet/Corum/Edwards sequence will be a tremendous success.

At least Michigan has a 2020 RB already. Neither Penn St or Ohio St have a 2020 RB yet.
Ohio St lost out to Texas for the excellent RB Bijan Robinson. And now (apparently) they are trying to land an RB that is predicted to go with Wisconsin, Kevontre Bradford.
Penn St looks to be in the lead for Keyvone Lee. But LSU may nab him. Lee is announcing his choice in 3 days. Lee de-committed from Florida in February. And Florida is making a hard move to get him back. He's also made several visits to Florida St.
It's hard to believe Michigan has stopped pursuing RBs. There's still high ranking RBs available. The one RB I wish Michigan could have gotten is Bijan Robinson. For some reason, to me, he looks like he has the most long term potential of all the RBs in the 2020 class.
