  • Previewing Notre Dame: Wimbush is a 50 percent thrower and Don Brown is going to have a way to screw with that. If you can't complete passes against Michigan it's over.
  • Michigan's worry: if Solomon and Dwumfour get pushed around
  • RPOs in the offense can protect your OTs—can't help on the inside though
  • Ole Miss was just 60th in sack rate despite similarly bad OL as Michigan by structuring their offense around it.
  • Michigan's offense: spread TE? Gentry had a ludicrous yards per target despite so many misses when he was open.
  • Patterson has a good timer; if he didn't he wouldn't be alive.
  • MSU/OSU schedule problem: hope but not until the next round, which is far in the future.
  • Slot fade solution: put Hill on the slot and draw in Ambry on 2nd and long, 3rd and long

Ira is okay, but there are moments of dead air in the middle of him talking that are excruciating. Idk if he is dropping a cough, or just a brain tick or what but i just want to scream "finish your sentence!" Maybe it's just the podcast? I think it would be better if he would bounce off of the Miz more often. Turn it into a 2 person show when Sam is off? I think he does a good job when Sam is in, and a good job on the Harbaugh podcast.

I haven't listened to this yet (I will though) but if the bullet point of "Patterson has a good timer or he wouldn't be alive" - assuming that is about him not holding onto the ball and getting sacked, I have a quick story to back that up:

I was at the IMG game when Paramus and Rashan Gary came to town.  Harbaugh was there scouting.  I was watching Gary on this particular play and Shea dropped back to pass.  Gary came around the end at a speed I had never seen before from a high school player.  That speed alone floored me.  Anyway, he quickly gets around the left end and as Shea is set up in the pocket with a 3 step drop, Gary is bearing down on his backside quickly.  I thought "oh shit, he is going to kill him".  With a Brady/Rogers like subtle move, Shea calmly takes a step up into the pocket to avoid getting his life ruined.  That really impressed the hell out me.  It's like he had eyes in the back of his helmet.  I don't remember much from that game, but that play has always stuck with me.

Okay, here's my not wholly thought out speculation: Big Spread.

Put McKeon, Gentry & Eubanks out to one side. Patterson in shotgun; Evans or Higdon in backfield.

Maybe put McKeon as split end; Gentry & Eubanks off the line of scrimmage. 

If you get the ball to Gentry or Eubanks, they can pick up 3rd and 2.

Gentry could throw to a releasing McKeon, Evans, Eubanks, or even Patterson ... even if a short pass, could have space to make it a big chunk play.

Or: One of them can go in motion and set up as a blocker for Evans or Patterson.

You could also get the ball to Gentry or any of the big tight ends and they cut towards the middle of the field and pitch to Evans/Higdon swinging wide; or while Evans is swinging wide, Patterson is swinging wide, but not as wide as Evans and Gentry flips the ball to Patterson who cuts right behind him like he's a pulling guard of sorts. 

The defense is unlikely to have 3 people who can defend 3 guys that big all on the field at once, and there's also a blocking size advantage. With motion, there are lots of quick and significant formation changes where again, size and/or speed mismatches with specific linebackers, corners, safeties, can be generated.

I enjoy the round-table every week. Is is just me or is that segment getting shorter and shorter, particularly in actual content? 

Ira does a great job as a producer and a decent job hosting. My only criticism is that he seems so eager to be the main guy that we end up not hearing from the guests a whole lot, particularly on this segment.

I think it's a combination of two things.

1. They aren't breaking it up the same way, so you get two longer segments, so that really short third segment makes it feel shorter.

2. The ad reads definitely feel longer. Especially when Sam is doing one for something he actually uses. It's almost like he ad-libs for an additional bit of time.

"This is the year Perry gets 50 catches."

This should have happened last year. I get that it's part of the struggles with the OL and QB play, but Perry was mismatched a couple dozen times last year and outside of Speight (who even ignored him a bunch of times) no one threw to him.

Same with the TEs. Gentry had a safety on him against MSU. That was an 8 inch advantage and he wasn't thrown the ball. Perry gets a LB (I think it was Frey) and he isn't thrown the ball.

So while that can be equal parts JOK/Peters not knowing who their fall back option is, it's also a coaching thing where I would think Harbaugh/Pep/someone tells the QB "If you're screwed or see Perry line up on a LB, throw him the ball."
