Since there is no senior appreciation night, there should be a...
John Beilein Appreciation game! We should still honor all the senior cheerleaders, managers, etc. But this game should be directed toward John Beilein and the good things he has done for this program. He has made some good teams with class and dignity. This season was supposed to be bornderline NIT at best, and here we are with a chance to make the tournament.
I say the marketing department makes a little video montage of him getting animated and some of his greatest moments. The students who usually wear the army jackets should don a blue shirt and yellow tie. He should get a standing ovation. I think it would really fire up the team to see their coach getting honored like that.
I love John Beilein, and despite some of his critics, I know a lot of you love him too. Let's show him. I've met him in person, and there was no better choice to lead our hoops program.
Are you calling Coach Beilein old?
no. did i come off that way?
The joke was that you were suggesting we honor him on SENIOR night.
[/joke]
I guess I'm not as good at this as everyone else...
I like John Beilein, but this post is absolutely ridiculous.
How so?
"John Beilein Appreciation Game"
The ridiculousness should be obvious.
A little too soon I think.
I do like the idea of honoring perhaps all Seniors this night in some way considering we have no players as such.
maybe to you, but not to me. sorry for trying to show some respect for a classy coach who has lead this team to the bubble when most people had them finishing sub-.500.
and since there are no seniors on the team, i thought it would be quite fitting.
I'm in agreement. I like John Beilein a lot, in fact, but an appreciation night is wayyyyyy over the top.
Michigan hasn't won a national title or been to a Final Four, let alone won a Big Ten title. Our bar should be a little bit higher for hosting an entire night in honor of a coach.
I think he feels appreciated by DB's public support, his contract situation, and the steadily increasing interest and support of the basketball program. Keep going in this trajectory and I have no problem with an appreciation night 10 years down the road...
Normally I'm not one to correct word usage or grammar, but this is a big pet peeve of mine. When using the phrase "let alone", the more impressive/less likely thing should follow the "let alone", not the other way around. Your sentence should read, "Michigan hasn't won a Big Ten title, let alone been to a final four or won a national title."
+1 for sticking up for your pet peeve!
get em tiger
ok last year they had a senior night. thinking with your logic, what did deshawn sims and zack gibson do to deserve it?
I'm all for a John Beilein night...the last home game before he retires.
I doubt Beilein would accept a game like this, even if it was offered.
We at least finish a big ten regular season with a winning record. I like JB, but this is a little over the top.
But I will always find it hard to believe how fast things can change. After indiana and northwestern bad losses some people on this blog were calling for the head of John Beilein
not me!
Username pun intended?
haha touche.
Only the idiots.
Then again (ahem), some people responded to them by suggesting that JB should be under serious consideration for BT Coach of the Year. I really think he has to be BTCotY now. Who else in the BT has exceeded expectations like JB and Michigan have?
Any other year, but this year he's gonna finish third in the voting to Matta and Painter. I'm starting to think Painter may be the best coach in the B10 with what they've accomplished this year w/o the services of Hummel.
He deserves one as this team's official Steve Grote!
the fans. How crazy would the place get when the entire team walks out, stands at center court and applauds the crowd? And when the PA guy announces that the entire team is back next year for "another run to the NCAAs", I could see the players getting jacked up too.
Maybe honor Joe Mazzulla? He was a Beilein recruit and has been playing for West Virginia since the late 80's.
It should definitely be fan appreciation night and they should pass out those "boom sticks" to the students. Have they done that there recently? I remember a game years ago where they passed them out and it was ridiculous. It was so loud and obnoxious but so fun for the students.
Please God no. I can't stand those things.
how can i hold 2 boom sticks and a BROOM stick
....for the sweep
senior student-managers, Jon Adler and Daniel Pineda.
Having some students dress as him is an idea I can definitely get behind.
I personally think they should honor the undergraduates who bought tickets all four years.
We could just go with regular footage and still photos, no need to bring in animators. Expensive. Or Claymation.
LET'S BEAT THE FUCKING SHIT OUT OF STAAAAAAATE!
night.
id be all for this but, its not a night game
I don't have time for your "facts".
How about the "Beat the sh*t out of State" afternoon? Day perhaps? Week, if we actually win it?
I think Beilein would be happiest if you just went to the game and cheered loudly for his team.
"Since there is no senior appreciation night". Hardaway is a freshman. Morris a sophomore. No seniors and only 2 juniors with any real playing time. And they're a bubble team? A couple bounces go our way and we're a lock? With that team? God help our opponents over the next couple years. They're going to need it...
