"We understand one thing: We have a special guy in Denard. He is a guy that can do an awful lot for your football program. I know he loves the University of Michigan......when you have talented players, its your job a as coach to mold that for whats best for your football team. And most of the time, when you do that, its whats best for the player."
January 12th, 2011 at 1:29 PM ^
or he would have just said "Denard is a quarterback and we're very excited." This is a big mistake and now I will not be able to sleep b/c of Denard Transfer watch.
I need to sleep
January 12th, 2011 at 1:57 PM ^
that made me feel better. Something to the effect of using the personnel that you have rather than forcing your system on the team. Shot at RR. But maybe I can sleep.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:21 PM ^
My first reaction when he stepped to the podium was "Oh my God, we hired Dennis Nedry."
But after hearing him talk, he seems like a genuinely likeable guy, and he obviously has a passion for M football.
Not thrilled about the direction the offense will probably take though.... :(
I can understand not going straight-up spread 'n' shred like RR was, but, why not go for like a hybrid type thing like Auburn does, incorporating spread elements? With Borges we probly won't get that. But other than that, I can definitely warm up to Hoke.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:19 PM ^
That's the most telling part of the press conference so far.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:19 PM ^
Holy crap can he get passionate! He is going to have this team ready to run through a wall!
Whoooo - Go Brady & GO BLUE!
January 12th, 2011 at 1:19 PM ^
Talented players to be molded into what's best for the football team.
Insert speculation here...
January 12th, 2011 at 1:19 PM ^
he sounds like a coach when he talks... and i like it. to me, RR was never all that great at sounding like a coach during press conferences.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:19 PM ^
Tell Denard you love and want him as your QB!!!
January 12th, 2011 at 1:19 PM ^
"What's best for the player" - so does that mean he's going to try to switch Denard to a receiver or something...? ('Look Denard, you could do this in the NFL...')
January 12th, 2011 at 1:20 PM ^
That's about as good an answer as we could hope for on Denard. My heart was about to stop as he prepared to answer. It's beating again. Hope Denard's is too.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:25 PM ^
I disagree.
He'll either leave or have to play a different position based on his comments.
Called him a player instead of QB. Talked about molding him.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:20 PM ^
Jesus.
"The Ohio State question. Embracing rivalries. Can you talk about the rivalries?"
What a fucking lazy ass question. Shocking.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:24 PM ^
its pat caputo. if you listen to him or read his stuff, you know not to expect anything better than that from him.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:53 PM ^
Yea, but you forgot to mention the answer. "Sure! We want to win them! We want to prepare to win them! They've got to be front and center!" Good answer and the way he said it was hillarious.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:20 PM ^
Special? Yes - Special..."he loves Michigan" - feeling's mutual Denard
January 12th, 2011 at 1:20 PM ^
"are there any questions?"
eery silence.
First question comes from some dude in Saginaw?
Where's all the mouths from the Detroit media.
and as I say that, here comes Pat Caputo with his Ohio State question.
please respond "Pat, you're a Spartan, right? Ok. Good. Prepare to die fatass."
January 12th, 2011 at 1:21 PM ^
We hired Matt Foley.
January 12th, 2011 at 2:06 PM ^
Just made me feel 10x better about Hoke. And 100x more confident that he lives in a van down by the river.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:21 PM ^
'that school in ohio'
January 12th, 2011 at 1:21 PM ^
I hope he NEVER says "O*** S**** U*********"
January 12th, 2011 at 1:21 PM ^
he's honestly going to be doing "that school down South" instead of Ohio State
January 12th, 2011 at 1:21 PM ^
That 97.1 guy has the dumbest question so far. "What do you think of the rivals?"
We want to win *blink blink* next question dumbass?
January 12th, 2011 at 1:21 PM ^
Is it just me or does he remind me a little of Chris Farley's Matt Foley character?
January 12th, 2011 at 1:23 PM ^
Dude, thank you. I could not place where I had heard that voice before.
January 12th, 2011 at 2:01 PM ^
Listening on the radio I kept picturing Darrell Hammond doing a Bill Clinton impersonation, but I like Matt Foley even more.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:21 PM ^
Brady Hoke is hilarious, and is actually very good at dodging questions.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:21 PM ^
I love the fact he is playing up the rivalry. I missed this.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:22 PM ^
He's hitting the right notes. This guy has been waiting for this day a long time.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:22 PM ^
Of course it's the "Meet Cute" where he's saying all the right things, but... I get the sense that, overall record be damned, he's got the passion needed for the job...
January 12th, 2011 at 1:22 PM ^
ok, maybe DB knows what he's doing. I forgive him. Time to do the hokey pokey
January 12th, 2011 at 1:22 PM ^
is it just me or does he sound a LOT like bill clinton?
January 12th, 2011 at 1:22 PM ^
they laugh at every half joke he says ...
fwiw he sounds like he knows how to control a room, but we shall see what happens
talking recruiting now
January 12th, 2011 at 1:24 PM ^
Which is probably a good thing.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:23 PM ^
Here's the recruiting class question
"No doubt, we got a lot of work to do."
Captain Obvious, at your service. haha
January 12th, 2011 at 1:23 PM ^
LOL. Love it. He won't even say the name.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:23 PM ^
I'm kind of sad he's calming down. It looked like he was working himself up and about to wade into the press pool to strangle a few people.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:23 PM ^
His drawl kind of reminds me of Charlie Manuel, manager of the Phillies, and look what that man has done.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:23 PM ^
Kind of sounds like Bobby Bowden.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:23 PM ^
but there's no way you can dislike Hoke!!!! Go Blue!!!!!
January 12th, 2011 at 1:24 PM ^
January 12th, 2011 at 1:24 PM ^
Sounds like he is going to honor all of the commitments.
Me likey!
January 12th, 2011 at 1:24 PM ^
when talking about the thousands of kids he's touched
hehe
January 12th, 2011 at 1:24 PM ^
Tom Brady actually called DB to express his support for Hoke. I knew Hutchinson did, but not Brady.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:30 PM ^
it was his nephew Thomas "Brady" Hoke
January 12th, 2011 at 1:24 PM ^
Seems like a great guy. Wears his emotions on his sleeve. Is honest and most importantly really passionate about the program. Seemed nervous at first but is getting more and more comfortable as he goes. Good dude.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:25 PM ^
Brady has been very impressive so far.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:25 PM ^
Poor podium is gonna have a bruise.
January 12th, 2011 at 1:25 PM ^
Wants to be there forever...ideal.
