Not speaking for all fans, but hasn't this blog has been pro-RR since his hire?  Who are these RR haters that you speak of?  I remember a time when a man would cry at his computer after he said something negative about RR, and receive subsequent backlash, harsh and unforgiving.  Am I missing something, Shirley?

That was only three games removed from his firing.  The tide had already turned.

I am speaking about many moons ago, when no comment that questioned RR went unpunished.

"Boy that Toledo game was hard to watch.  I'm not sure about this RR guy."

"Burn in hell, you nonbeliever.  The cupboard was bare.  He doesn't have his people yet, fucktard.  Viva, revolution.  LOL, IMO, FWIW, FAIL, FML..... Never question our god of football."

I was really referring to the overall fan-base and journalistic coverage. You know, the "he's not a Michigan Man" crap that has come from all over. Here we had the power to neg-bomb people to Bolivia. In the newspapers, not so much.

on and on and on.  As far as RR is concerned, what he did before he got to Michigan meant nothing to me once he was the coach.  The only track record that matters is the last three years.  I'm not going to rehash all the reasons he was fired but having abysmal performances in two of the three aspects of the game in the third year was reason enough for me.

I understand why he was fired. I disagree with the conclusion. That makes me unhappy with Dave Brandon. Your comment didn't respond to what I posted.

Edit: I don't know if this is actually a reply to my comment because of the page break. If it turns out that it wasn't, my bad!

cause the DB hating is freaking moronic.

At least there was evidence against Rich. There is absolutely nothing against DB. Only impatient chicken little who think they know how to manage a D1 athletic program.

You people make a lot of assumptions.

DB has been elected as regent for this university, held multiple CEO positions, and AD for this university. I doubt he is worrying what some internet morons think he is a bad AD.

I especially agree with the fact that Dave Brandon doesn't care what any of us think. On the other hand, I do maintain that the piped-in music counts as evidence against him (i.e. not understanding the culture, ironically).

This is just so ... frustrating. I want a super sweet coach that will make us a winning team, and his athletic department is so damned tight-lipped about any and all possibilities. We're almost a week in and still have Hoke and Miles swirling around the bowl as the best candidates. Most of us are on here right now because we like to think about college football, and speculating about who will take over our own football program plays right into that enjoyment.

Now, to combine the two points: it doesn't matter if people are hysterically anti-DB all of a sudden. He doesn't care what we think, and his feelings won't be hurt by any of it. Plus, this will make the makeup sex all the more incredible when he hires a crack candidate and we do a face-palm and say "oh, he had it figured out all along!"

Its going to be super interesting to find out who DB has talked to. I feel like we have eliminated all of the people we suspect will get the job. This one looks like its coming out of left field.

Miles and Hoke are still very much in play.  Were it going to be Hoke, maybe like this would have been wrapped up already, but H******* did not officially make his choice until yesterday (death to the 49ers), and as late as Wednesday I heard UM was still a possibility for him.

Just pass the phone over.... a simple phone call will get either a MAC, Big Sky or the coach at Mt. Union Universty over and introduce him as the new UM Coach..........

N220DF (Dominos plane): Was in Scottsdale yesterday, flew to Las Vegas for the night. Has since returned to Scottsdale, and is scheduled to fly to Dallas tonight.

N929SR (Rogel plane): Suppose to be in the air to Westchester, PA, but is delayed.

The most obvious conclusion here is that DB is going to interview Wade Phillips.

It's like a repeat of three years ago. Everyday I wake up checking this site to see if there is any mention of a sailboat to make it all complete.

Maybe the reason Patterson and Jimbo Fisher's contracts were extended all of a sudden are because DB has asked for permission to speak with them.  Just because we don't know who he is talking to doesn't mean he isn't talking.

The amount of panic on here still astounds me. I'm not sure what people expected. Coaching searches never go as planned, and Brandon hasn't let any rumors about the search get out.

From Balas at The Wolverine

There's nothing concrete out there about Gruden to Michigan. At all. That would be out of left field and wouldn't make sense.

I think it's Les Miles and that if Les is comfortable with what he hears, he'll be the next Michigan coach. Brandon will, of course, be able to say that the timetable makes sense (which it does, given what he's said about respecting coaches with their teams).

I think we'll know one way or another by Monday.

That would be a fairly brilliant move when it comes to the internal politics Brandon is said to be dealing with.  It's also brilliant on another level in that it actually turns to some of the products it's produced.  Let's use our own strengths rather than running around like a bunch of panicked old women for the biggest name.

I think Brandon thought Harbaugh was coming and they had a semi agreement in place beforehand.   Then Harbaugh decided he wanted to try the pros and Brandon was left standing there in the wind.   We will probably never know for sure or will not know in the near future because if its the case it would completely undermine whoever we hire. The vibe I got in Brandon's press conference was that he was a little upset with Harbaugh.  I could be completely off base, but just my gut reaction when he brought Harbaugh up.

I think were Brandon may have failed is not having a back up plan if Harbaugh changed his mind.   I will still wait and see how it all plays out.  We wont know if this is an epic fail on Brandon's part for a few years regardless of who is hired.  Brandon is obviously an intelligent person, but I think Martin was/is intelligent also and we know how his coaching choice turned out.

Ok so my point total sucks but I got courage. I also got faith in DB da man. And only one empty Double X on my lap. We are due. DB was chosen bc he knows how to identify needs and get them met. I mean Dominos pizza has sucked since I graduated in the mid 80s and he turned turds into gold. We may be down but we ain't turds. Rich didn't fit but now we find our own innovator. Not Bo the sequel but someone none of us are seriously considering. Les and even Hoke would be safe but too safe and wouldn't unite us. Gonna be outside the Blue box. We don't know whazzup bc DB is doing it right. Have a cold one, channel your energy toward the kind of flexible offense that the others seem to have, the kind of demon team tackling defense that we used to have, and the kind of game changing special teams that we've never had. See the future. It's got us in the hunt with a guy under the headset who we love but don't even yet know. Go F'n Blue We Are U.

There is a lot a banter about DB and plan B's and plan C's.  While it is necessary to have a backup plan, too much contingency planning can also lead to indecision and inactivity.  Identify the risks, mitigate them as best you can, and move forward.
