My 2 cents: I'm a head coach…

My 2 cents: I'm a head coach at a small school. I have 30 kids suiting up varsity, another 15 that suit up JV (bring some varsity kids down). We started this year in the spread, threw the ball 25 times a game. Started 0-4. Since then, we changed offense on the fly, and with the new play clock rules, we are winning games, and have a good track to qualify for the playoffs, maybe even host a 1st round game. We decided we have too many kids playing both ways to keep throwing the ball around and having short drives. So now, last Friday, against the #2 team in the state, we lost a close game in which we had 3 different scores called back on "iffy" calls (film verified this). We only allowed them 7 possessions in the entire game. All of this to say: I only allow our JH and JV, even when we were spread with RPO's to run under center with no option to read from the QB position. Without doing this, I could not have adjusted midseason this year and our season would be over. Even if your son's frosh team runs the ball 70 times, what are the receivers doing? Are they learning to stalk? Learning to run complimentary routes? Are they carrying out fakes full speed? All of those things at the lower levels make it that much easier for the varsity level to make adjustments needed to the personnel they have. I have 20 WR's on my team...only 4/5 at most will make the field at a time. I need TE's and WB's....I can find a frosh receiver that loves getting his nose dirty and convert him by the time he reaches Friday nights. Sometimes there is a plan in place...the parents may just not know what it is.

I agree, and I will say…

I agree, and I will say...those Sun Belt level teams use the publicity for Bowl games to their advantage. New Mexico State won a bowl game that was on the internet only 2 seasons ago and that city is still abuzz about it. Had one of their coaches in my office a little while back and he used it to actively recruit one of our guys. He flashed his Nova Loans Bowl ring and my guy loved it. Are there too many? Perhaps. But for a lot of those small schools and small conferences, they have to have them to compete in recruiting.

Why? I mean, the bowl system…

Why? I mean, the bowl system must be working, or else why are there more and more popping up? As for fans....that time around Christmas is great for Bowl Games. More the merrier....I know a lot of people out here where I'm at watch at gatherings or with the family. We have the New Mexico Bowl out here that follows up the HS football season and I use that as a chance for a day or two with my staff to unwind and just have some fun...I'm sure some of these other bowls operate the same way for many HS coaches...and over Christmas Break...the more games the better! Not a ton of great college BBall games at that point, and you end up having a few beers, watching a couple intense lower level bowl games with 99% of the players knowing they wont be going pro...its just for the love of the game...its a good time.

Ruidoso, NM

Pros: I am a HS teacher/coach, so I make a decent wage for our state. Housing market in my particular area is pretty high, but, you can find a fair number of houses that need updates for dirt cheap. I live in the mountains of southcentral NM, with the southernmost ski area in the US. Summer temps are in the 70's-80's for the most part. I can send my kids to college at any of our D2 colleges for less than 10k a year, or spend a little more for UNM, UTEP, or NMSU. I have El Paso, Albuquerque, Las Cruces, and Lubbock within 3.5 hours at the most. Our town's population is around 7k, but due to tourism (ski area, casinos, race track) we usually have between 25k-40k people in the area at one time. Fishing, hunting, hiking, skiing, you name it outside. Food aint bad here either. Texas BBQ due to tourism and Hatch green chile and Mexican places are to die for.

Cons: I live in a resort town... and we are a long ways from a Pro team or even major college teams. My brother in law recently interviewed for admission in to Med school, and in the interview he was asked how hard it was to cross the border to get to classes every day....people forget New Mexico is actually a state and not a part of Mexico. And we have A TON of drugs running through the area.

I went to the series in…

I went to the series in Lubbock...Weather was fine for 2 of the days, but that Friday was a normal day for "spring" on the High Plains. I highly doubt any of the players from Michigan (or Stetson) have dealt with winds like they saw that day. Our RF had a horrible day in the field, and the rout was on. Played pretty poorly down here the entire 3 game set, but seem to have bounced back.

If you sign up, you gain access to their "vault" and it has tons of these presentations along with many, many more.

I might add that until this…

I might add that until this season I have also been the HBball coach too. So I have walked off the football field on a Saturday and in to our first game on a Tuesday. I am in season from June until March every year.  While it may seem we dont watch much football....those 4 hours in the heart of a weekend are huge for me and my young kids. Now...when we go full empty nest and retirment.....that house in Monroe....let's just say it's still in the family and earmarked for us to start attending games.

My childhood dream was to…

My childhood dream was to play football for Michigan. My dad was recruited by Bo a long, long time ago. I did play college ball, but it was D2. My love for Michigan football was part of my roots and upbringing. I can remember listening to games on my great grandfather's front porch in Monroe, and I still follow Michigan very closely. Just through SiriusXM and here and other internet sources. I also came to realize I am a varsity football coach with 5 trips to the state championship, including 1 win, I have an amazing family, and if that means I miss games so be it. And the playoffs here in New Mexico are on Saturdays. In fact, it's been 5 years since I've been off on Thanksgiving. Football takes a ton of my time. Watching Michigan can wait or I can trust this board and internet sources to keep me up to date. I even call my dad every Sunday to talk Michigan football. I just dont have to watch every game to do so.

36. Been with her 12 years. A 9 year old and a 4 year old.  I am gone all week and Friday with our high school team. I give the family Saturday and Sunday. Youth games, skiing, whatever. Michigan football is great. But it's a game. Why miss out on life for a game I have nothing to do with. Of course, I have free run of my own sidelines all fall, so maybe I'm just exhausted come Saturday. Haven't seen more than 4 games in a year in about 7 years. Haven't seen The Game in 6. Is what it is.

I was a true freshman at…

I was a true freshman at OPSU, a small D2 (now NAIA) in the middle of the Oklahoma panhandle. My mom woke me up on my dorm room phone. Classes were cancelled almost immediately and I went in to the football field house to watch with my teammates. That week was a haze. We were one of the only schools that still played that weekend, and to this day I can't remember anything about the game we played that Saturday other than we played Arkansas-Monticello.

QB all the way. A lot of…

QB all the way. A lot of coaches out here where very upset at the time and haven’t given credit to the coaching staff that it was the right move for Gentry. We have your occasional top end player, but it’s so hard to have consistent top end recruits due to the lack of top notch competition. We have some excellent programs, such as Artesia and Rio Rancho, but just no depth. UNM doesn’t really recruit hard in state nor does NMSU, but our local DII schools do.

I am a head coach at the…

I am a head coach at the varsity level out here and called the move to TE when he signed. His size and movement suggested his future is at TE. You have to understand the writers out here. They feel our state is underappreciated and our players are undervalued. I don’t agree with that assessment having played college ball in California and Oklahoma, but that’s the way it is here. Don’t hold it against all of us!

I'm a head football coach in

I'm a head football coach in a small high school, and this past season we had to send a player home from the state championship game because he used an e-cig in his room. A parent of a manger is who informed us it was going on. No police involvement, no school involvement. Head coaches know what's going on in their programs. Accusations of rape? Program like MSU? Not a chance in hell those coaches don't know what's going on.

The lawsuit says she was

The lawsuit says she was pressured or felt pressured not to go to authorities and pursue charges against big name athletes. What this statement shows is that she did in fact attend an initial meeting. It does not show how MSU did not in fact try to persuade her not to go to police at that time. Victim goes in a week after a horrific attack. Victim thinks she is confiding in one person, shares her story. That person then goes and gets another person to join the room, already presenting a feeling of authority and superiority over the victim. Victim has conversation with both parties, representatives of MSU and leaves feeling she better make sure this story goes to her grave with her. And MSU responds by sending campus police hunting her down? Obviously this covers MSU in that they tried to help the vicitim, you know, after telling her to make sure she doesnt say anything or things will get really bad for her. No wonder she didn't respond to authorities or pursue further action. Can anyone in their honest mind blame her? The comments and attitude coming from MSU are absolutely horrific. All in the name of sports. Shameful.

Funny Story

In reference to your comments I actually live in Breaking Bad territory. I am a teacher and high school coach out here in New Mexico and  we actually had a real life Breaking Bad experience. Guy was a teacher, chemistry, and arressted, for cooking meth. Arressted in October, plead guilty last week.

I was part of a team that prepared for Bruere in his junior year, and I have seen Gentry. I'll be honest, it would not shock me if Bruere doesn't end up at a MWC or C-USA team and puts up some massive numbers. Smart kid, likeable and coachable, and a winner. Going JuCo for a year or two will make a world of difference. He will be eased in to the speed at higher levels instead of redshirting, sitting for two years, and starting his JR/SR years at a bigger D1 school. Good choice for this kid!

Sorry, should have clarified.

Sorry, should have clarified. I think Gentry can be a big time player. It's just going to take a couple of years and a lot of hard work. Same thing for the Bruere kid. They can be, but I dont see them as capable of stepping on the field for their true freshman opener as the starting QB. Long ways from playing on Saturdays for a major D1 school and Friday nights here in NM.

UNM is an option attack under

UNM is an option attack under Bob Davie. NMSU brought in like 6 QB's last year. Hence no NM schools looking at him at the D1 level. As for D2 schools here, once again, system fits and previous recruiting classes factor in.

NM Football

Once again, most of it boils down to New Mexico HS football. I have actually coached against this kid, last year as a junior. We were a classification lower than his, and we lost in the last minute of a tough game. The kid impressed the hell out of me. I honestly feel like he was the best QB in the state of NM. I realize some will disagree, but after game planning for EB and watching Gentry, I felt like EB and Rio Rancho were just the better player and team. Last season, Rio Rancho had some serious speed and talent at WR and TE which may have led some scouts to question EB's talent. However this year, those doubts should have been erased. Regardless, the kid's got talent, and just like I said about Gentry, coming from NM, I just don't think he is D1 top level football. I think he needs time and seasoning. Just my opinion though.

Just saying that the level of competition here he Just saying that the level of competition here he has been up against is nothing like he would have seen in say Texas or New York. Not a knock on the kid but I would be shocked if he was ready in year 1 or 2 for major college football. But then again, I am just a small town coach in New Mexico where most of our talented kids go D2 and take a couple years to be able to contribute at that level.
I coach HS football here in NM and this kid has I coach HS football here in NM and this kid has been the talk of the state. To be honest I don't think you can put much stock in the hudl footage here. Our biggest classification would struggle with the 3rd largest in most states. The kid is a nice QB and may turn out to be great but it is going to take some serious coaching and patience. I have not coached against him but most of the programs he played against and most coaches here would agree with my statements. Take it for what you will...
Stafford will never win titles in this Stafford will never win titles in this league.
Caris is no where near ready for the NBA. But I Caris is no where near ready for the NBA. But I fear he will go.
The Packers and Lions went 1-1 against uncommon The Packers and Lions went 1-1 against uncommon opponents which means they will have the same record against common opponents correct? So they would move to the next tiebreak wouldnt they?
I thought someone had posted

I thought someone had posted something saying that state law in Miss prevents extensions of a certain length so the Mullen deal is still pending or something like that. Could be wrong though.

Trade for Simon, using two

Trade for Simon, using two decent trade chips, to put him in the bullpen? Doubtful. Besides, could have traded for a more useful bullpen piece with the two the Tigers traded away.

Lester also got a veating option for a 7th year at Lester also got a veating option for a 7th year at 15 million....
It's a huge uphill climb for

It's a huge uphill climb for the Niners to get in the playoffs. Ride it out for three more weeks, then try and trade JH and get something in return. Plus buyouts and all that fun stuff. I would not think firing JH is a good business decision.

How can they leave Baylor out after beating TCU?? How can they leave Baylor out after beating TCU?? Winning head to head with basically the same schedule. Hard to see TCU in losing to Baylor.
FWIW, Cowherd said on twitter

FWIW, Cowherd said on twitter something about a current Patriots head coach. I am guessing he is having way too much fun with Michigan fans now.

It's not the service provider It's not the service provider according to the last lady I talked to. Blacked out online for me and aside from the Rangers, all three others I listed are blacked out on a TV too.... Stupidity....
I live in New Mexico and they I live in New Mexico and they are blacked out against Texas, Houston, Arizona, and Colorado.... And I too have MLB.TV.... Seriously sucks.... I only get the Rangers games on TV
I recall seeing shortly after I recall seeing shortly after Sam Webb posted this that someone else retweeted the kid saying he was all sparty and not interested. Can't recall who retweeted it but I do know it was out there.
But is the band going?! But is the band going?!
Look up Eastern New Mexico Look up Eastern New Mexico University.... They struggle with NAIA schools.... UIW is no where near capable of a game like this. It's all $$$
I watched them in 2012 in I watched them in 2012 in Dallas against my school.... Trust me when I say this.... Last years Michigan could and would score 120 points against them. They struggled against D2 schools....
I think some where expecting I think some where expecting teams like NC State and Providence to march through the first two weekends.... Got to play good teams.... They are all in the field and earned their spot.... It's March... Line em up and knock em down.... Just win!
Saw one that said "your Saw one that said "your Trojans can't cover our Cocks"
It was even better in person! It was even better in person!
Please. Lavert does not need Please. Lavert does not need to see major minutes.
So other teams win with So other teams win with freshman and RS freshman but Michigan just can't? Last night was the 13th game of the season. They aren't freshman anymore. This staff was out coached across the board. You could see from the players they have no faith in their staff. But hey what do I know right ? Just a hack on the net .
Out here our football season Out here our football season runs from July through December. Basketball is October through March. A lot of coaching relationships are strained due to the overlap in seasons and forcing coaches to pick a sport come October 1st. Be prepared to face some heat over the decision
This. Get rid of Kelly. This. Get rid of Kelly. Brings nothing but a .170ish average.
Is the softball strike zone Is the softball strike zone always this small? Thigh high at the bottom of the zone makes it tough on the pitchers.
You kid about being an You kid about being an attractive job right? Phil wants a team ready for rings now. This core is not going to beat the likes of SA. OKC, or the Heat anytime soon. Phil Jackson will not be the coach of the Pistons. Hell I would bet he would have turned it down even coming out of our last championship. It's not a fit.
The loss in velocity on his The loss in velocity on his fastball rendered his splitter useless. Falling behind all three batters last night meant he HAD to throw strikes. As cold as it was I don't see him having a good enough feel to throw something else. Now, if we see straight heat next time out, well, there is going to be a blood bath.
$75 a month? I need your $75 a month? I need your service provider!
Velocity was good. Only threw Velocity was good. Only threw fastballs but on a bitter cold night not a ton of grip. He trusted his defense and threw strikes. Good start!
Has any word been given on Has any word been given on the status of the kids mom and sister who were also hurt?
