Jim Tressel Leaving Ohio State After the Sugar Bowl?
On Christmas Day, two sources that are very close to recruiting at prominent universities confirmed that Jim Tressel will no longer be the head football coach at Ohio State University after the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas.http://chicagonow.com/67GI

Shame on all of us who thought that this announcement was valid even for a minute. I've been smacking my own neck for an hour straight.

What I find interesting is the source of the rumor. Either this guy just made it up, knowing that Christmas would be a slow news day, or some people at Illinois or Northwestern are trying to spread rumors.
Edit: Turns out this Tab Bramford is a Michigan fan. How many mgopoints does this get?

The Walmart in Bolingbrook must carry some Michigan apparel.

Very good news if true for Michigan fan seeing how many times he won against Michigan in the rivalry
Hopefully this helps turn the tide and end "The Streak"

A rumor is still a rumor until it actually happens.
Anyway, if this were to be true, I'd rather it happen after we beat him. So wait another year Tressel

If he got hit by a 1988 Pontiac with Michigan plates. All the victory I need.

This is like the time I said I would give up Mountain Dew and TV for Lent. I convinced myself there was a chance, but there just wasn't.

He's been called back to Mordor to rebuild the empire. Prepare for Lord of the Rings 4.

simply return to Sodor. Um, wait what?

has given us a little update at the end of the article. Definitely taking this FWIW for now, at least.
UPDATE: I have read comments from Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith on Saturday afternoon. I am also well aware that Ohio State fans and alumni don't like me; the thousands of personal attacks and taunts on Twitter made that perfectly clear.
However, the sources that provided me with this information were clear with their comments, and I am comfortable sticking with what I have been told. If I was wrong, I will publish a strong statement to that effect in the future.

gotta say as much as I hate the man, I really hope that he does not retire until we beat him a couple of times. The last thing we need is the suck nut fans having a coach that we were never able to beat.

FWIW, the Ohio AD was denying any problems with rule breaking by players right up to the day of the official announcement last week. Not saying the Vest rumors are true, but I also don't take a denial by the tOSU AD as the absolute last word.
December 25th, 2010 at 11:17 PM ^
This wouldn't surprise me even a little under the circumstances. There's good reason this rumor has momentum right now (even if false).
The AD twat (?) is less than convincing. I wouldn't expect anything but a denial at this point.
I'm not saying I'd bet on it being true... I wouldn't put money on it either way.
December 25th, 2010 at 11:55 PM ^
And he wouldn't be the first AD in recent history to make some outlandish claims...as in Bowlsby from Stanford explaining that Harbaugh would be signing an extension.
Then again, we had our Dave Brandon use twitter to defuse any rumors about an "announcement" being made after the OSU loss...
So now we're back to where we started. Fan-f'ing-tastic.
Guess we'll all find out after the Sugar Bowl. Perhaps an OSU win would mean this is more likely to come true...? What am I thinking. Go Arkansas and the tid-bit of Michigan left in Mallet.

I don't think his leaving helps UM in any way. I would prefer that he stays so that we can start beating him and even up the score a tad.

After Fupa got canned it was so much fun hearing all of the "potential" coaches they had lined up I figured I would add Sweater Vest to the list if they can Kelly.
December 26th, 2010 at 11:09 AM ^
What? A.) Why would they can Kelly? Winning season + Bowl Game + First Year + Beat USC/BC; B.) Why would Tressel leave OSU? Elite Power House + Awesome Salary. or C.) Why would ND hire a coach fired for some amorphous ethics lapse so scandalous it takes out a legendary coach?
December 26th, 2010 at 12:19 PM ^
Would you have understood better if I had put " /S " as the end?
December 26th, 2010 at 9:23 AM ^
Whether he leaves or not I think the money quote is their non-compliance issues despite having more people than any other program to prevent such things.
December 26th, 2010 at 10:29 AM ^
So what you're saying is....tOSU cares more about compliance in a system that has never really punished them than automatic 11-1 seasons? I'll believe that when I see it! Tressel has the best job security in the country. OSU fans could care less if he punches penguins while taking the Lord's name in vain.
December 26th, 2010 at 11:16 AM ^
If this is true but I did read the University has had 375 infractions since 2000.
December 26th, 2010 at 11:45 AM ^
I'm waiting(secretely hoping) for more details to come out about TP and the other OSU players who were involved in this mess. My theory is that an agent was buying this stuff behind the scenes, in exchange for the players signing with him when they decide to turn pro. Then the agent gives back the rings, etc. Tressel then feels the heat turned up!
December 26th, 2010 at 11:55 AM ^
that Urban could come out of "retirement"? The only thing worse than having Tressel there, who I generally respect, is Urban who could make life in AA even worse than it has been.
December 26th, 2010 at 12:08 PM ^
Except for the last time we played Urban and his boy Tim. Carr did work that day.
December 26th, 2010 at 1:10 PM ^
I'd definitely like to see a guy as successful as him leave OSU, since he'd be a tough act to follow, but all these "It would be the best Christmas ever!" posts are just a little over the top, no? Anyone who seriously feels that way must be worse off than Tiny Tim.

With The vest gone, I could wina couple games maybe. I likes cheeseburgers
