Jim Tressel Leaving Ohio State After the Sugar Bowl?
On Christmas Day, two sources that are very close to recruiting at prominent universities confirmed that Jim Tressel will no longer be the head football coach at Ohio State University after the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas.http://chicagonow.com/67GI

Small world- I actually knew that guy pretty well. I played at Taylor with him.
He seemed like a pretty level headed guy. I'm not sure why he would make a claim like this unless he's right or become less logical than he was about 5 years ago.
I'm not saying he's right- just that it gives me more pause that (to me) it's not some random idiot making an outrageous claim...that it's a guy I knew personally who seemed like a very reasonable individual.
I'm going to try to get ahold of him and see if I can get anything out of him about his 'sources'...

Just watched the Taylor University Silent Night Clap thing on youtube...pretty cool.
December 25th, 2010 at 10:56 PM ^
But I'd hate to have to paint it.
December 25th, 2010 at 6:44 PM ^
It's Christmas, not April Fools Day. Tressel isn't going anywhere.
December 25th, 2010 at 6:45 PM ^
I'll believe it when I see it. Til then, Tressel is staying at Ohio State.
December 25th, 2010 at 6:46 PM ^
Jumping ship before it goes down? Sounds positively Carrollesque.
Some captain.
(Again - only if true).
December 25th, 2010 at 6:49 PM ^
often imitated, never duplicated
December 25th, 2010 at 6:49 PM ^
I want to see some more reputable sources about this, but they may come down after christmas has finished
December 25th, 2010 at 6:50 PM ^
smh at anyone slightly believing this. this isn't true nor would i necessarily be "happy" that it is. just like someone said earlier. why be happy someone you cant beat is leaving?
December 25th, 2010 at 7:20 PM ^
Maybe because someone we can't beat is leaving?
December 25th, 2010 at 7:25 PM ^
you know what i meant. we dont want him to leave, we want him to stay around long enough for us to help him go.
December 25th, 2010 at 11:23 PM ^
Sure, I know what you mean, but that is the whole thing about cheating. Maybe he was winning BECAUSE he was cheating. The cheating wouldn't be all of it, of course, he is at least a very good coach. But if he leaves, it would make you wonder.
December 25th, 2010 at 6:52 PM ^
Tressel out before Rodriguez? The Lions on a 2-game winning streak? The basketball team... good? What is happening???
December 25th, 2010 at 7:17 PM ^
The soccer team makes the college cup (can't remember what they call it), St. Izzo gets suspended for a game, and Iowa is basically one giant crack-house. What a month.

I call BS. It might be related to this obvious hoax article from our pals at blackheartgoldpants
http://www.blackheartgoldpants.com/2010/12/25/1896177/tressel-confesses…
December 25th, 2010 at 7:08 PM ^
that he thinks that article is serious?

I don't think much of this report, but it appears to be an effort at serious journalism.
December 25th, 2010 at 7:17 PM ^
I looked at his photos. So yes.
December 25th, 2010 at 8:07 PM ^
Agreed, photos are always viable evidence, right?
December 25th, 2010 at 7:00 PM ^
Just waiting for the DB knew this was happening and that's why he waited to CC or not thread.
December 25th, 2010 at 7:05 PM ^
Hard to believe no reputable source has picked up on this if it were legit. If they have informed recruits (teenagers) it should have been all over the internet by now.
December 25th, 2010 at 10:58 PM ^
How ridiculous would it be to tell the recruits they can look elsewhere? Not credible.
December 25th, 2010 at 7:09 PM ^
bleacher report did. I will stand by the statement in the subject line.
December 25th, 2010 at 7:20 PM ^
December 25th, 2010 at 7:19 PM ^
Why would he tell recruits first? It makes no sense. He can always tell them later and they can commit elsewhere, it's not like it's 1 day before signing day.
Just doesn't make sense.

Apparently, OSU's AD says he hasn't been contacted by Tressel about it... http://twitter.com/elevenwarriors
December 25th, 2010 at 7:33 PM ^
Yes. It is false. That twitter also cites this article
December 25th, 2010 at 7:29 PM ^
let's start scouring ohio state's recruits' twitters
December 25th, 2010 at 7:31 PM ^
Also, Paul is dead!
We all know that this is too good to be true. I'll believe this one when I hear it from a real source. Why do we torture ourselves like this?
December 25th, 2010 at 7:39 PM ^
Who knows, maybe there's some more trouble coming down the pipe for tOSU.
It almost looks like he's pulling a Ron Meyer or Pete Caroll. Jump ship before the ship completely sinks.
December 25th, 2010 at 7:44 PM ^
Regardless if he steps down or not....I'll never figure out how Michigan gets bashed for practicing twenty minutes too long and Ohio State gets in huge trouble for a few players selling some stuff while another large group of players can dress up in camo, beat up innocent students and be completely absolved of any wrongdoing or punishment in the eyes of the media. I know the thought is semi-OT to this thread but it keeps coming up in my mind when discussing the OSU situation.

Hell, most of us don't want him to. I personally don't want him to ride off into the sunset without at least one more loss to the maize and blue.
December 25th, 2010 at 8:36 PM ^
Well, that is unless they are going to bring back Coop...
December 25th, 2010 at 8:04 PM ^
Merry Xmas everyone!! Go back to drinking your eggnog!! Rumors not true.. First NBA game I watched this year!! http://yfrog.com/h28fpnzj
December 25th, 2010 at 8:26 PM ^
He didn't specify which rumors, hmmm? A closer reading of this tweet suggests he's responding to rumors of bad eggnog or rumors that Gene Smith spends too much time watching NBA games.
Seriously. Hasn't twitter made the world so strange???

Who's dreaming? The majority of us didn't believe it was true. Learn to read, jackass.

I happen to think this is an incredibly stupid comment.

If I was in the business of surprising you, I might be disappointed. As it is, it's of no concern to me.
You don't know this - but, I graduated from MSU. We have our own "tally" of days that some of us (regrettably, IMHE) keep track of and remind M people of (rudely, IMHE). In that context, I think your comment is stupid.
It takes a petty individual to keep track of these things, and then go on the rival's board to remind them of it. It accomplishes nothing. And it says nothing of your merits - you're just a fan. You had nothing to do with it.
Finally, the term "salty" does not make any sense.
I usually will try to give a reason for why I negged someone - hopefully, you have a full and cohesive account.
Damn, this is as polemical as I've been.

You were just called out by a Michigan State fan for being classless. Evidently you didn't bother reading his response. The word "dream" has nothing to do with it. No one is looking for a fight. Back to Mordor with you.
December 26th, 2010 at 9:59 AM ^
I really doubt he understood anything WatersDemos was trying to say. Seriously, that's why he resorted to the "dream" comment.
December 25th, 2010 at 10:26 PM ^
"Dream" is a fine word. So is "dreaming." Both the simple tense and the progressive tense of the verb are just fine. I also don't see any mention of "fighting" or "fighting words" in my posts. As such, your reply confuses me.
It's, in fact, the tally you mentioned that caught my attention. I apologize here - I'm projecting frustrations with my own fanbase onto you. Well. . . not really, because you did the same stupid tally thing. So I guess I'm just observing. I take my apology back.

Whaddit I tell ya? The Spartan version of Irish . . . if Irish ever told a Buckeye what it is.
WD, you were unfairly criticized on this board the other day for nothing more than posting-while-Spartan. I regret that I did not stand up for you more vigorously.
December 26th, 2010 at 8:04 AM ^
I appreciate your sentiment.
I understand the risk of posting on a rival's board - sometimes my own preferences will get knocked. It doesn't bother me.
I take your comparison of me to Irish as a high compliment; that guy is funny and insightful.
December 26th, 2010 at 1:26 AM ^
but I only mention it when Michigan fans start talking shit about Tressel's inability to win "big" games.
December 26th, 2010 at 1:33 AM ^
Shut up, OSU_Bucks. You're the kind of OSU fan I hate and the school doesn't need.
