loss to a third string QB. this time to a walk on. I never thought it would end like this. but Rod has to be done now. This should have been an easy win.

To answer your question, because Boise's in the WAC.

Since 2008, Boise State is 33-1 (4-1 against Ranked Opponents). They have beaten four straight BCS opponents and are 6-1 against BCS opponents since 2006. They have won two BCS bowl games, going undefeated in both seasons. Boise State has fielded excellent football teams by any standards recently and it would be foolish to say that they haven't gotten a lot out of their talent.

but even if he wasn't, the assumption that Harbaugh would just drop Stanford and come here at the first wink from Brandon is fanciful. Harbaugh has said on many occasions that Stanford is his dream job, and that Palo Alto was always the place he most wanted to be.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:07 PM ^
have wings?
October 30th, 2010 at 10:34 PM ^
It's not a gimme that he would come, but every coach says that his present job is his "dream job." You kind of have to say that. I think he'd come back for a chance to "save" U-M football.

Backup plan if Harbaugh signs with any other team: hire Jim Harbaugh Scramble
October 30th, 2010 at 10:07 PM ^
If Rich Rod cries during the press conference after this game he should be fired before he gets back to Ann Arbor. I have never seen a coaching staff look more like a deer in the headlights than this staff and do less to inspire the players on the sidelines.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:07 PM ^
I have supported RR since the beginning, and i still do. But i thought about harbough as our HC.... and i felt hope
October 30th, 2010 at 10:10 PM ^
Life without hope is not worth living.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:09 PM ^
This is Michigan and the 8th game of the year. Obviously this ain't the Big East!
October 30th, 2010 at 10:09 PM ^
I'd much prefer UM to run the table (or even run the table except for OSU, or even loose every game but beat OSU). But I don't think any of these will happen.
I expect this poor play to continue with aone or two easy wins. That isn't good enough IMO. If this happens, I would prefer a coaching change. I think a coaching change would be needed. You don't have three Big Ten seasons like this and continue at UM, no matter what your excuses are and no matter how good (inconsistent still) your offense is or might be. It just won't be good enough.
I don't worry about UM - we will be strong again fairly soon. If RR stays here long enough, he'll succeed eventually, but I don't think UM should wait that long.
Go Blue!

Well put, and nice dedication watching from Korea (not that Korea)
October 30th, 2010 at 10:11 PM ^
This is just so bad.......
October 30th, 2010 at 10:12 PM ^
Dave Brandon meant when he said RR will be here for along time that he would be offered to come back and be our offensive coordinator again. Thats what this guy is.........an OC. But there will be a new guy delivering for Dave Brandon.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:13 PM ^
I want to tell you that you're wrong; that this is just a rough patch, and that Michigan will emerge from this stronger and better prepared to compete in the future.
I wish I could disagree with you. I really do.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:14 PM ^
at bowl eligibility. Purdue can't score on anyone. They will propbably score 35 on us. If there's anyone that wants to hang 50 on RR it's Danny Hope. At least Tressel will be a gentleman like he was last year and not run it up too bad.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:16 PM ^
We just scored, and Denard is still amazing
October 30th, 2010 at 10:22 PM ^
I do catch myself wondering if he's being used the right way. He is not a threat to defenses to go deep so why not put Forcier in the backfield with him? Essentialy we are playing him as a running back anyway. Just a thought
October 30th, 2010 at 10:28 PM ^
praised his vision as something "every great RB has". No accident they continually refer to him as a RB.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:17 PM ^
We just scored, now within 14 and plenty of time left.
If we come back and win this thing I'm gonna laugh my ass off at all you guys calling for RR's head on a platter, and it will make the win that much sweeter.
Please God, let it be.....
October 30th, 2010 at 10:20 PM ^
If we come back and win this game, that's excellent, but how do you still not criticize RR for yet another game where we dig a hole against an inferior team and MIGHT come back?
October 30th, 2010 at 10:27 PM ^
Good Luck with all that laughing.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:35 PM ^
...what are you going to do?
October 30th, 2010 at 10:47 PM ^
Cry into my martini.
But still keep some perspective and realize that the D is the problem here. Yes things need to be fixed but you don't tear down a house and start from scratch if you only need your kitchen remodeled.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:54 PM ^
Laugh and point fingers vs. hide and cry.

And I don't know that it's a kitchen, and not a whole new wing...but in any case, would you still use the architect who trashed the kitchen...?
October 30th, 2010 at 11:09 PM ^
Not hiding. I'll still be here.
And saying RR trashed the kitchen isn't exactly an accurate characterization of things. It wasn't exactly sparkling to begin with. Granted it hasn't improved under his watch. I think that criticism is valid but it doesn't warrant firing RR, if anything it warrants a change at DC.
October 31st, 2010 at 12:50 AM ^
...who are we going to get to hire a new one...?
October 30th, 2010 at 10:18 PM ^
The reason why I think RR isn't going anywhere is UM's offense is fine
The defense is frustratingly and excruciatingly bad, how much better would Mich be if they could play D?
October 30th, 2010 at 10:33 PM ^
They're not fine.
EDIT:
October 30th, 2010 at 10:33 PM ^
I think someone below said it better than I could have, they are inconsistent, and they show flashes of brilliance
Mich TD
October 30th, 2010 at 10:19 PM ^
Chicago-based Michigan fan here.
Bulls down by 20 to the Pistons at halftime (I know most of you are probably Pistons fans)
Blackhawks tied with the Wild
I turned a Michigan game off in disgust.
I've been a Michigan football fan since I was 9 years old in 1993. Remember Dreisbach to Hayes.
But I'm done.
Sports mean too much to me. And I get too little joy back.
Go Blue. Go Bears, Bulls, Cubs, Blackhawks.
But I'm done.
See ya on the other side.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:37 PM ^
Thought I could get a little joy by flipping to the Pistons....and they're not on tv here tonight....perfect.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:20 PM ^
I like the spread offence and honestly don't want to go back to the old style. But this D is just so bad. I mean this is Michigan. You should be able to put together a middle of the road D that can at least stop people once and a while.
At this point I just want to win again. So whatever it takes is fine by me.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:20 PM ^
I like Craig Roh, but he hasn't made a play since BG. In fact none of these guys have. There is no evidence that proves this offense works in the Big Ten and there is no evidence that this staff knows anything about defense.
Bo said it so many times. BLOCK AND TACKLE. We are doing neither very well. We haven't made a serious hit on someone since BG.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:23 PM ^
Well that's not true. The points and yards are there on offence. The problem is our offence lacks consistancy. It show's you flashes of brilliance mixed in with sucking.
October 30th, 2010 at 10:39 PM ^
maybe if he was put in a position to make a play not dropping into a goddamn zone trying to cove a running back or tight end he would make some plays
October 30th, 2010 at 10:24 PM ^
McGloin is going to throw for -50 yards next week but he's looking like a scholarship QB right now
October 30th, 2010 at 10:25 PM ^
coming back. This one is over
October 30th, 2010 at 10:39 PM ^
Does that mean 4 more weeks of bad Michigan Football?
October 30th, 2010 at 10:27 PM ^
I just don't want being a U-M fan to feel this bad anymore
October 30th, 2010 at 10:31 PM ^
I wouldn't mind taking either of these guys at this point. I was not a supporter of RR coming to UM, however jumped on board to give him a chance. I just don't see the Defense evolving anymore. Tonight has to be the statement game that tells Brandon, Rich Rod is a great guy, good coach (for the Big East, Mac, etc...) but he just CAN'T win big games. 2007 Ranked #2 losing to PITT. He Beat an Oklahoma team that was comparable to the 2007 Michigan team.
Harbaugh- Getting him would not make us wait 4 years to get anywhere. I would venture to bet that if he came to Michigan, he would be NO WORSE than 6-6 in his first year. It's not like we don't have Talent. I like a lot of the pieces we have on Defense for 2011.
D-Line: Martin, Van Bergen, Ash, Talbott, Campbell?
LB's: Roh, Demens, Robinson, Furman
Secondary: Woolfolk, Floyd, Christian, Talbott,
Alot of them now being upper class men. The Offense would need adjustments. Robinson/Gardner/Forcier are more than adequate QBs. We're still okay at WR/TE. Definitely okay at RB with the new class.
Miles: He could probably handle the Transition better, plus has a National Championship ring. I feel his coaching abilities are not as bad as the LSU forums state. I like his defense, I'm pretty sure he runs a 3-4 which would be fine... Balance vs Power... I think it would be the best Variation for the athletes we have.
That's just my opinion on the topic. I would love to give Rich Rod a 4th year, but we're honestly going to make a bowl on a 6-6 Year... I would just fire Rod, respectfully decline a Bowl Game- if possible- and move this team in a different, more efficient direction.

I'm with you--I didn't want Miles after Lloyd retired, and now I REALLY don't want Miles. He'd be comparable to RR calling a few fakes and trick plays every now and then. I just don't like him as a coach.
