TV Coverage map question.
Has anyone seen or can link a coverage map for the reverse mirror abc/espn 2 coverage for the game saturday? Mgoblue.com usually posts it by Wednesday, but I don't see it there. I'm leaving town (ultimately for the game Saturday) but want to set the recorder. Here in NC usually we get the espn 2 coverage, I believe.

BTW, it looks like the line is right through my back yard.

You might be able to see that highly anticipated Kentucky v. Louisville contest.

The link has been updated and now answers all of the questions raised in this thread.
September 1st, 2010 at 12:37 PM ^
Forgive my lack of THE KNOWLEDGE, but what does the reverse mirror refer to?
September 1st, 2010 at 12:39 PM ^
If it's not on ABC where you live, it will be on ESPN2.
September 1st, 2010 at 12:42 PM ^
The linked map shows what is on ABC in each area. The "reverse mirrors" refers to the fact that in areas where the UCLA game is on ABC, Michigan will be on ESPN2, and vice versa. I'm not sure how Kentucky fits in.
Edit: SD is faster than me. This is why I cannot play corner.

How can ESPN2 carry the reverse mirror of 2 different 3:30 games (as it says at the bottom of the map) when there are 3 total games?
Does blue get yellow on ESPN2, and yellow get blue? If so, which game does green get?
September 1st, 2010 at 1:10 PM ^
The way that I read it, green is only on ABC, which means that the reverse mirror in that region is one of the two other two games and in yellow and blue they mirror each other. If that makes sense.
September 1st, 2010 at 12:39 PM ^
Hopefully this year they have the HD bug worked out in the reverse mirror. Drove me nuts last year.
September 1st, 2010 at 12:55 PM ^
Who needs to watch ESPN News in HD when the game is on??? That was just terrible.
September 1st, 2010 at 1:00 PM ^
Same here. That was AWFUL to have to deal with last year.
September 1st, 2010 at 5:34 PM ^
It looks like they have the HD issue figured out (at least for this game). The updated map (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?page=coveragemaps2010), the second one down, specifically shows HD channel listings for the Michigan game on ESPN2, whereas the third one specifically shows SD channel listings for the UCLA game on ESPN2.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:25 PM ^
Yeah, the HD issue is a little weird. They're obviously filming the UCLA game in HD. Why can't they air it on ESPN2 HD in the Michigan coverage areas?
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:40 PM ^

That's precisely the part of it that I've never understood.

Thank God I live on the yellow (maize) side of the yellow / green split crossing North Carolina. I wouldn't want to be on that green side ...
September 1st, 2010 at 1:05 PM ^
Yeah, I'm jealous. I'm on the green side, which makes me wonder which game we're getting on ESPN2, as the map is far from clear.
September 1st, 2010 at 3:07 PM ^
I might be wrong, but I thought the Big 10 had a deal where if it wasn't on ABC it was garunteed to be on one of the ESPN's. In other words, I think the green area will be getting Mich/Uconn.
Take that FWIW, which isn't much.
September 1st, 2010 at 3:18 PM ^
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that you're right. I'll get the game, I'm not worried about that. The problem, however, is that if you have DirecTV (at least last year this was the case) then the game that is on ESPN2 is NOT in HD (which really sucks).
September 1st, 2010 at 12:42 PM ^
UK/UL game on ABC - will I get the Michigan on the reverse mirror or wll I somehow be stuck with Kansas state? The footer says that the mirror will be both so I'm a bit confused/concerned.
September 1st, 2010 at 12:50 PM ^
Please angry-Michigan-hating-god let it be UConn @ UM!
September 1st, 2010 at 12:51 PM ^
September 1st, 2010 at 1:42 PM ^
I have Direct TV and live in the "green" area, my guide shows UM on espn2
September 1st, 2010 at 3:06 PM ^
That's interesting. I have DirecTV and when I checked when I went home for lunch it changed from TBA to "Connecticut at Michigan or UCLA at Kansas State". The good news is that I'm virtually certain now that "Jeff" has it right, so it really shouldn't matter what the guide says.
September 1st, 2010 at 12:42 PM ^
The yellow areas get Mich/UConn on broadcast ABC stations and UCLA/K-St. on ESPN2
The blue areas get UCLA/K-St. on ABC, Mich/UConn on ESPN2
The green areas get UL/UK on ABC and one of the above games on ESPN2 (probably Mich/UConn)
September 1st, 2010 at 2:51 PM ^
I'll put this here, but it's really a response to several people.
The Big 10 game is 100% guaranteed to be broadcast by ABC/ESPN2. If it is not on ABC in your area then it WILL be on ESPN2. They do not want to show the same game on ABC and ESPN2, so wherever Michigan is on ABC, they'll show UCLA/K-St. on ESPN2.
This is how it worked last year, and how it will work for the next 7-10 years of the TV contract.
September 1st, 2010 at 12:59 PM ^
Anyone else like that our game will be the primary one in our recruiting hot bed of South Florida?
September 1st, 2010 at 1:29 PM ^
due to older folks retiring down there from the Northeast?
September 1st, 2010 at 1:34 PM ^
Not just the northeast. It depends where you live in S. Florida. The Atlantic coast is predominantly northeast transplants. The Gulf coast is predominantly midwest transplants.
September 1st, 2010 at 1:02 PM ^
I would suggest looking at your guide for the games on ABC at 3:30p I would expect it to say what game it has and do the same with ESPN2. I think the games would be listed in the guide by now.
As for the reverse mirror - I am pretty sure everyone in the green area will have the Michigan game on ESPN2 since the Big 10's contract with ABC/ESPN/Disney is that all games are covered nationally except for Saturday night games.
September 1st, 2010 at 1:11 PM ^
I have DirecTV and it's not on the guide yet. Still says TBA. My recollection is that it didn't update to the game that will actually be on until sometime on Thursday.
September 2nd, 2010 at 8:08 AM ^
Your UPSTATE SC brother here.
Charter is saying the same thing (TBA). I remember freaking out last year because I thought I was gonna miss the game for Georgia vs. Arizona State.
We'll be getting it on ESPN2. I'll actually be at the game but I decided to DVR both channels to ensure I'll get to watch it later.
September 2nd, 2010 at 9:08 AM ^
Thanks for the heads up on that. Now that I've thought about it more, I remember that's how it went last year as well, and we got all the games. It was just something I hadn't thought about in a while and had a moment of forgetfulness.
Have a safe trip up to the game and have fun! You driving up or flying?
September 2nd, 2010 at 10:05 AM ^
Driving. I usually prefer flying for trips but I really love that stretch from North Carolina through West Virginia. One of my personal favorite road trips. Leaving SC at 4 A.M. on Friday. I can't wait!
September 2nd, 2010 at 10:11 AM ^
Yeah, that is a beautiful drive, especially in the fall. We make it often to visit my wife's family in Pittsburgh. I'm curious (since we've never made the drive from here to Michigan), what way do you go and how long does it take? My folks live in the Kalamazoo area, but we haven't made the drive since we moved to SC.
Sorry to hijack this thread... this is one of those times when having the ability to send PMs would be great.
September 1st, 2010 at 1:17 PM ^

I think this is correct, but I really wish I knew for sure. What you've said correlates with the game listing on mgoblue.com which says "ABC/ESPN2". I would imagine that if there was a possibility that some part of the country wouldn't get the game that there would be an asterisk, or something. Just a guess, though...
September 2nd, 2010 at 8:25 AM ^
I have comcast in Atlanta and just did this. For ESPN2 it says "UCLA @ Kansas State or Connecticut @ Michigan". Really surprised it isn't specific. Although, I'm fairly certain they'll have the M/Uconn game on here because historically they've always broadcast Michigan on the reverse mirror in Atl.
EDIT: Meant to post this under previous question recommending to check guide schedule for ABC and ESPN2
September 1st, 2010 at 1:43 PM ^
EDIT: Looking at this map makes me wonder... Next year, when Nebraska is in the Big Ten, would they just be a random yellow island in a sea of turquoise on the ABC/ESPN coverage map? And all of Nebraska, or just in Lincoln?
September 1st, 2010 at 2:48 PM ^
That's an interesting question but I think we can make some safe assumptions.
All of Nebraska would get the Big 10 game.
It would also expand to all of Iowa instead of splitting Iowa between Big 10/Big 12. Because really, who cares about Iowa State?
I would be curious about the Dakotas. They have Div 1AA and Div 2 schools but are they generally Nebraska fans? Would S. Dakota get Big 10 games? Would N. Dakota also get Big 10, or would that still go to the Pac 10/Big 12?
September 2nd, 2010 at 9:02 AM ^
I'm in SE South Dakota. A lot of Nebraska fans around here and I'm really, really hoping that ABC will start carrying more of the Big10 games. If the main game is Iowa we usually get it on ABC. However, if its Mich/OSU/PSU then a lot of times we'll get stuck with a Big 12 game. I think Nebraska should put us solidly in Big10 country.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:22 PM ^
Cool. Glad to know I was right in assuming that SD had a lot of Nebraska fans. I want the coverage map of Big 10 games to keep spreading across the whole country. Every state will help.
Also, I always assumed you were in San Diego (your pic is pretty awesome so it's memorable). Since I thought you were in San Diego, I always thought you should have made your name San DieGo Blue. (Although typing that out for the first time, I notice that it makes the word Die look too prominent. Hmmm, maybe it wouldn't work.)
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:29 PM ^
i also assumed san diego. Maybe make it san dieGO BLUE
