Amazon All or Nothing Michigan discussion

Submitted by HAIL-YEA on

So I have been waiting for someone to post a discussion thread, and nothing has been posted yet unless I missed it. I know you all binge watched it, don't act like you didn't. So what did you  think, did you learn anything you didnt know?

I thought it was great. Very well done, as bad as things went last year I expected this thing to be a terrible watch, I was wrong.

Some things I learned

1. Pep Hmilton was calling most of the plays? I figured he was more involved when Drevno came down from the booth but it seems like he was calling them.

2. Chase Winovich is friggin hilarious. He should be mic'd up every game

3.Wilton Speight did not come off great. Honestly I just don't think I would find him likable even if he was a good qb.

4. Don Brown is even more likable then I thought. The guys personality is awesome. Rare combo of being a really nice guy, funny, and the best D coordinator in the country.

What do you guys think? I don't think they could have done a better job with this special, really a great watch.

I thought the same. Only 4 episodes in but I found it strange how little drev was featured. Pep came off great which made me question my entire existence after witnessing that garbage passing game last year. Also, I almost blew it when it took multiple turnovers beforre it crossed anybody’s mind to ask okorn if he could hold the ball in a monsoon.

I know this is not the full picture, but Pep comes off OK in this.  Why were so many convinced he was the problem again?

Because he was a recent addition whose presence coincided with us sucking. Attention was on drevno too because of the oline woes. After watching the doc, I feel like it was much more on drevno and the lack of a serviceable QB than anything else. Pep was engaged in the games, quick on his feet with respect to playcalling, and responded appropriately to gaffes by the QBs when they happened. It was good to see him tell Harbaugh it was time to put Peters in and it was good to see Harbaugh listen.

You're just making things up. Harbaugh decided to have Amazon edit a docuseries to make himself look quirky but make Pep come off great. Why? Because other coaches think Pep can't coach? Conspiracy theorist will believe anything.

He was the passing game coordinator and the passing game was complete dog shit. Speight severely regressed with Pep after looking decent with Ficsh. O'Korn never improved. Peters had a month to prepare with Pep for South Carolina and somehow it was the worst he's ever looked. He was not a great recruiter for us.

I haven't watched any of the series yet but I'm really encouraged about all the positive Pep comments. I hope it starts coorelating to on field success.

I mean, it's like the equivalent of watching someone's highlight reel. In reality the passing game was not ok last year, and it wasn't just the QBs. We ran the same mesh concept over and over again and people figured it out pretty quickly. It didn't really seemed like he was scheming guys open consistently. Hard to pinpoint the blame to him given the chaos at QB and youth in the receivers, but I also would take his showing in this series with a grain of salt.

What I think through 4 episodes:

It's really weird how Pep was telling Speight things to tell the offense to motivate them. Probably not normal or good. QB situation was a disaster and it shows. The offense overall just seemed discombobulated.

Harbaugh comes off just as weird making speeches as he does talking to the media. I would have figured he would have been different behind closed doors, but not really. Brown is more of a motivator it seems, which probably isn't good considering he's not the head coach.

Honestly, it's not shocking to me that we lost that MSU game at all, nobody seemed to give two shits besides Gary.

I wish Harbaugh would drop the ''nobody has it better than you'' crap. Honestly I can't believe before the Air Force game he said ''You play for the 7th ranked Michigan Wolverines''.

Most disappointing thing was how much the prep for MSU seemed like any other week. There didn't seem to be any additional intensity for MSU or OSU. Harbaugh said some generic stuff about the game, but there lacked the passion that Dantonio brings to the rivalry and even Myer. You can't take over those rivalries if you don't match your oppenents intensity.

Overall Harbaugh came off as aloof, and not motivational at all. When Jack Harbaugh addressed the team, you saw a sparkle in the players eyes, and he got a standing ovation. When Jim addressed the team, they looked confused and/or disinterested.

What I liked the most so far (episode 6)... is knowing we have a true o-line coach now not someone who was paid millions to eat snacks next to pep up in the box. 2nd was good seeing Gary fired up during the game or after a loss. The offense needs that dog mentality- hopefully Herbert can change that mentality for the offense. I know the growing sentiment for Michigan fans is prove it now, but I feel like all these changes to the staff will show on the field next season. #1- we need a general as qb- don't act like after every tackle you are dying. #2 - get some nastiness in the o-line ... imo o-line unit as a whole was soft during the season and in the doc. unforunately. Time to man up next year

O'Korn on the other hand seemed like a raging narcissist. He flat out told Herbstreit he was better than Speight. Who tells a reprter that they are better than their teammate?

Edit: I'm only three epsidodes in.

honestly, it was one of the big distractions that killed us last year. There is way too much hype on this program - JH needs to back off the media blitz and just coach football. JH wonders "what is all the focus on us" ... well right there in this TV program. These are 18 year old kids and they can't handle this high-end non stop hype. Let's just "win the game". Doing shit like this is a huge distraction and counter productive.

I am only four episodes in, but I'll definitely echo the increased like of Don Brown in particular. The speeches, even the in-game talks, have been awesome and I am pretty sure that, at this point, I would run through a minefield for the guy if I were on the team.

This team really was young. That isn’t bullshit. I would have never thought before the opener and the first HOME game that the coaching staff would have to ask the team if they were scared or intimated. I doubt Harbaugh would ever say something like that to a senior-led team. This offseason will play a big role in their growth.

Also, I can’t believe how much the team is reading the press and listening to the outside. I cringed every time Harbaugh said “you play for the #7 team in the country.” Alas, they didn’t for long.

I’m not naive, if I were on the team, I’d probably listen to talk radio and read about myself too. But I guess I’d be arrogant enough to not give a fuck what people thought, unless it was my team, my family, or my coach. As much as things seem obvious to the keyboard warriors, the reality is we don’t know shit without being at practice or on the sideline.

Forgot how unreal Black was before the injury and forgot how many things went wrong that MSU game I hope Don Brown stays here forever and gets a statue

Hot take - watching this I think Don Brown would make a better head coach. The defense seemed to care more and had leaders like Rashan and Chase. The offense just seemed like a bunch of individuals that weren’t that into each other. Harbaugh is awkward, Don Brown has his guys ready for war. Love Rashan’s emotions and Karan’s daughter is adorable. Pep is a likeable guy that looked to be lacking talent to work with.

On Pep changed. I like him. I think the qbs came off not great here. JOK is a team guy but both him and Wilton acted like things weren’t there fault when some were. Wilton blaming people for his picks and making fun of Nick was weird. Gary crying after MSU was tough to watch. Kid has his heart in this and Harbaugh takes losses really hard. Love Don Brown more and more.

Imagine if they did one of these in 2008 when Lloyd retired lol now that'd be must-see TV.
