No need for negs... Trying to correct a mistake in this place is usually futile! Too many know-it-alls that actually do know it!! The Michigan difference?

Both effect and affect can be verbs as well as nouns. And both as verbs and nouns they mean different things, but related things, which adds to the confusion.
Autocorrect can probably screw up one's intent, but I think most of us who know the difference still have to stop and think about it before we effect a boo-boo. Still shouldn't affect your appreciation of the article's subject matter. [Did I do that right?]

Speaking of editing... Does your keyboard, by chance, insert random commas?

I should not have made this comment. I love Angelique Chengelis's articles and think she is an awesome person. Of course she should not be fired for a grammatical mistake, and the article about Newsome is inspiring.
However, why is it petty to think that a professional writer for a major newspaper should know the difference between affect and effect? It's a small error, but don't small errors add up after a while?

and the speed for getting things on line makes things like this much more common. Yes, typos even in the NY Times! I feel for the writers. And blog posters.

What does the NYT have to do with anything?

I guess I have been inaffectual for years.

Nonetheless, I am certain that having Grant back on our OL will truly be a game-affecter.

“Spring is the realistic goal,” Newsome said in a recent interview with The Detroit News. “That’s kinda been the goal for a while. Bowl practice would have been ambitious, very ambitious. It could have been close. Decided to delay it for a little bit. Really focus on making the leg stronger. We’ll see if my doctors let me go full or limited, but spring is a very realistic goal to be on the field in some capacity, Day 1 of spring ball."
Even if it is in a limited capacity at most, it would be great to see Newsome out there for the Wolverines one more time. Such a story deserves an ending which involves him getting to the field again if at all possible.

is very inspiring, and quite a testament about who he is. Wish him the very best always.

It's nothing less than a medical miracle and a testament to the advanced state of knowledge and practice in physical rehabilitation and therapy.

Not that he'll necessarily want/need it, but I would hope the NCAA would give him a 6th year of eligibility if he asks for one. He missed all of 2017, but the Wisconsin game was game #5 in 2016, so he just barely missed the cutoff for an injury redshirt in 2016.
But if I'm Newsome, if I have a shot to play in the NFL after four or five years of college, then I'm probably going to "take the money and run." In his situation I wouldn't want to spend too long in college and put myself at further risk without making a financial gain from my football skills.

and a great Michigan man. Happy the injury did not happen at Purdue, as it appears time was absolutely critical to his recovery. Judging from what happened this year with WS, if GN had suffered his injury there, he would be an amputee. It shows how important great medical facilities are.

... all the angst about wins and losses for UM football. A great reminder that the players are people, not video game action figures, and the best result for them is not a great play, great game, great season, but a great life.
Go Grant. Go Blue.

When I think back to what happened to Wilton Speight at Purdue after he was injured... Thank god Newsome was playing a home game.

I can't wait to see him on the field eventually, even if he isn't quite where he was before. What an inspiration to everyone around him. It's hard to believe these doubters would send out social media posts saying he won't be able to come back. What losers.

I hope he is ready for the MSU game but wouldn't want him to rush for ND; nice if he is able to come in for a few packages.
