SEC College Football Playoff - No Thanks
I for one will not be willing to dedicate any of my time to watching the CFP Championship game this year. Don't want to hear the S - E - C chants, and could care less who wins the game. Is anyone else with me?
They need to fix the playoffs immediately. IF the CFP Championship game gets poor ratings this year, it might help convince the commitee that they need to change it.
I don't care to see two teams from the same conference ever again. Just take the Power 5 conference winners, one Group of Five qualifier, and let them square off in a six team playoff. It keeps the conference championships an important piece of the season.

I'd like to see an 8-team playoff. Keep the P5 champs, the best of the G5 (UCF certainly deserved it this year), and choose two at-large teams from wherever. The best four (as determined by committee, or whatever) get home field for the first round. I'd love to see an SEC team have to play in AA, or Cbus, or Madison in January!

Also, conference pride is stupid.

Georgia and Bama have been the best two teams all season. Both scheduled (usually in the case of FSU) tough non conference games. A quirk of scheduling allowed it to happen.
Just because Mississippi State fans think they're good because they're in the same conference as Bama doesn't mean the game won't be phenomenal.

Look, I'm not happy about it. You're not happy about it. None of us are happy about it.
But those two teams earned their way in via a playoff. It could not be more fair.
They deserve to be there.
So I'll watch and see who deserves to win the final game.
I don't always like who is in the Super Bowl, but I still watch it.

Because football is synonymous with participation trophies?

Best 4 teams were in it. Best 2 teams won last night.
My suggestion is take the 5 conference champs after agreeing that everyone plays the same amount of conference games. Seed them after Championship Games 1-5. #4 and #5 then play the following week or so at #4's home field for the right to get into the CFP. Continue as we have for the past few years as this 4 team deal is pretty good. As for the group of 5... your schedule is not good enough. Work on getting into the Big 12. ND, BYU and the rest of you independents... Join a conference. This is all some sort of economic socialism and there is no place for independence if you want a seat at the table with all of the goodies on it.
Hey Group of 5... there is no reason you couldn't copy this same model. People will watch. I promise.
There will still be bowl games. There will still be regular season powder puffs and most importantly there will still be games like M vs ND and Bama vs FSU because ultimately you need to win you conference to get into the playoff. Cross sectional games will only steel your spine for your real test that lie ahed of you during your regular season.
You are welcome CFP. Take it and run with it.

Maybe poor ratings outside the south will get them to consider expanding, but as it stands the contracts run through 2025 so unless something seismic happens between now and then I don't expect much change.

Two great teams will be playing. Yes, they're in the SEC. So what. They won the games that mattered and deserve to be there. I will be watching.

Auburn beat both Alabama and Georgia. This isn't a national championship game, but rather a game to see who is the 2nd best team in the SEC after Auburn.

The 4 spots just aren’t going to work when you have 5 major conferences. Conference championships obviously mean NOTHING to the committee. The committee suffers from recency bias to the extreme, which is why it won’t kill Michigan’s chances for a playoff spot in 2018 if we lose to ND. A loss should be a loss, but that’s not how it works in the committee decisions. Bama getting manhandled by Auburn doesn’t “hurt” as much as Wisconsin losing to osu in the B1G championship game. That’s messed up.
I think a simple fix without over complicating matters to make everyone feel included would be to expand to 8 teams. Yes, #9 will whine, but in reality, every single year by the time the playoffs come around the 8-12 ranked teams have at least 1, but more often 2 losses. They will be lucky and grateful to be included for a shot to win it. The expansion to 8 would have given UCF and Wisconsin a shot
