Mark Dantonio gets asked a Harbaugh khaki question at his bowl press conference
Delightful video-the question begins at about the 6:57 mark, and 90 seconds of video gold ensues. The fact that Mike Leach is there to add his comments only make it better. Even I will concede the question is totally out of line and ridiculous-but it's still delicious.
* I may get negged for this, and that's fine. It's so cringeworthy that some will find it worthwhile.

...he had been waiting patiently to give his answer to the playoff expansion question, as Leach had gone on for nearly 2 minutes with his answer. As Dantonio begins to answer, the abrupt shut down and khaki question. If you look closely, you can see the pressure building.

Someone played this for me last night, and part of me was like, "Only Mark Dantonio seems to attract these questions...." and then part of me looks over to the reporter and thinks, "Did you ever think so hard about a joke that when you moved to execute the joke, it became painfully obvious to all that you had thought hard about it?"

It just occurred to me that the media is "full on" trolling Mark Dantonio. Dantonio has proven to be VERY insecure and childish about U of M. Too easy to get him to squirm.
It's like the kid who everyone pokes fun at because he can't chill out.
The national media has their cheat sheet. It was a bad joke/question, but will get a bunch of hits/clicks even though it was poorly executed. It's like printing money for these guys.

Unless you're one of the lucky ones working for the NYT, the Wall Street Journal or maybe the Washington Post, I don't think there are really ANY journalists out there who would classify themselves as well-paid.
You're working for pennies in an industry where countless people are getting laid off every month.

One day Malachi d'Artagnan is really going to snap at someone for asking him an irrelevant Harbaugh question. Maybe not John L. Smith smack-yourself-in-the-face snap, but he'll snap.

I thought Dantonio's face was going to shatter when he smiled.

I think he runs a wretched football program and fails on the situational ethics front on the reg.
HOWEVAH, IMO he (a) handled this pretty well and (b) also appreciated the wonder that is Mike Leach. Dantonio seemed to be channeling Eminem (from the appearance with Herbstreit and Musberger) when asked the original question, and did a pretty good job of expressing "WTF are you asking me about?" without going into Disrespekt Rage. Baby steps, but still - not a bad showing.

this whole clip even though I started. Maybe its because both coaches look like they are so uncomfortable it made me uncomfortable watching in my own home. Appreciate the upvote worthy post though.

Dantonio had a small smile and said "You know it's sort of irrelevant to the conversation so I'll pass on that one".
How was he spouting hate here?

small smile? dude was beaming knowing he and his team will be able to collectively circle jerk the new wave of disrespekt.

I'll take that. It was a video interview with a local news reporter who has lived in California his whole life.

I know we dislike Antonia but lets be honest, the guys a great coach.. as a competitor it would piss me off to hear about my rival all the time too. Cant really fault him for answering the way he did. The reporter had quite possibly the worst line of questioning I've heard in some time.

a good coach. Great coaches don't go 3-9. Great coaches don't lose 38-0 in the CFP. Great coaches don't trail a game 35-0 early in the second quarter, against anybody. Dantonio feasted on a BIG with Michigan going through a generational transition and Penn State going through a generational crisis. OSU was in the middle of a transition as well. I'm not saying they are going to "disappear" from relevance like was forecasted by some but you do have to look at the landscape at the time when qualifying his real accomplishments.
Mark Dantonio is a good coach, and he has done some impressive things with that program based on where it was when he got it, but he has not achieved greatness. (And just to be clear, no, neither has Harbaugh). His team did well for itself this year in a bounce back but they went 9-3 and got pounded by ND and OSU. They did not contend for anything any more than Michigan did. That MSU-OSU game was really bad and they should feel bad about it.

I've never been more assured of a whipsaw in my life when MSU went into Columbus. It was a matter of time before the pumpkin arrived.

Recent history suggests that something comfortably above .500 is "about right."
MSU isn't going to be a national championship threat in the near future (if ever), but Dantonio has been beating most of the Big Ten regularly for the last few years with a bunch of guys the STARZ gazers generally consider chumps.
