The CFP Rankings are a Joke.
DISCLAIMER: THIS IS POST IS NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT MICHIGAN NOT BEING IN. THIS POST IS CRITICIZING THE RANKINGS AS A WHOLE.
WHY THE CFP RANKINGS SUCK
The CFP Committee has stated that strength of schedule is used to compare teams.
UCF is 8-0 and ranked #18, with a ridiculously easy schedule and only one quality win against Memphis, another team that hasn't played anybody. So clearly a good W/L record is more important in the CFP rankings than quality wins and strength of schedule, right?
Wrong.
The comittee ranks Iowa and Northwestern, both 3-loss teams, #20 and #25 because of their quality wins. So it is apparent that the committee thinks that a team with many losses can be ranked as long as they have enough quality wins, right?
Wrong.
NC State is #23 with two "quality losses", one bad loss, and no quality wins. LSU is #24 with two bad losses, one "quality loss", and one quality win. I've figured it out now. The rankings are just a clusterfuck of bias, hype, and "quality losses", right?
Right.
SOME TEAMS LEFT OUT OF THE RANKINGS
USF (8-1): One bad loss, zero quality wins
Arizona (6-3): Two bad losses, one "quality loss", one quality win, and 4-1 in last 5 games with their breakout QB Khalil Tate.
West Virginia (6-3): Three "quality losses", one quality win.
Toledo (8-1): One "quality loss", zero quality wins.
Boise State (7-2): One "quality loss", one bad loss, and one quality win.
Troy (7-2): One "quality loss", one bad loss, and one quality win (vs. LSU)
Michigan (7-2): One "quality loss", one bad loss, and zero quality wins.
It is ridiculous that this comittee follows such an inconsistent system for ranking teams. There should be a detailed step by step process in which a team is given a total amount of points, then the teams are ranked based on point totals. I also think the rankings would make more sense to everyone if the committee ranked teams without watching any games at all.
Fin.

As long as we have a committee or voters deciding who makes the playoff, it will be nothing more than a popularity contest. Take it (mostly) out of the hands of the committee, make it 8 teams with 5 conference champ auto bids. Much less controversy as the rules will be spelled out, win your conference and you are in. Don't win and you throw yourself to the whims of the voters. Makes too much sense so it will never happen.

They beat a still ranked (according to CFP) LSU team handily, but they are still behind Georgia, who only beat crappy S. Carolina by 14. I'm not sure what happened this year, but the committee seem wildly inconsistent compared to previous seasons.

Only the top 10 matters, the rest are there for the top 10 to look good. Someone's lobbying for Wisconsin to show "quality" wins over NW and Iowa. Next week we will be somewhere around 20 after hamblasting Maryland. Then they can say Wisconsin has wins over three top-25 teams and should be in. Same for LSU and NC State being ranked. We just need to throw a wrench in their crap and win out. Miami over ND and Auburn winning vs UGa and Bama would be great too.
The AP has it pretty much correct - at least better than this poll.

You trash the committee that uses all sorts of data to come up with their conclusions and then you counter with "Arizona is 4-1 in their last 5 games with breakout star Kahalil Tate". Lame.
If you want to debate a certain ranking or compare 2 teams with a well thought out argument backed up by actual data and not your arbitrary "good win" metric then please post again. This post is more trash then the rankings.

I still cannot get over how Oklahoma is not ahead of Clemson. Clemson's loss to Syracuse is much worse than Oklahoma's loss to Iowa St.

I think it was a poor decision to let ND back on to our schedule - a big mistake in fact.
Next year we are at ND, MSU & OSU with Wiscy & PSU at home.
Clearly the toughest schedule in our conference and probably nationally.
I would cancel the ND games and push the BIG to balance the divisions.
If we had Wiscy's schedule we'd be a Top 3 team in the nation right now.
It really is a joke.

Personally I was really looking forward to the home and home with Arkansas. Not because Arkansas kind of sucks right now but because SEC teams rarely come up to play us. I think the last time was Vandy if I'm not mistaken.

I think the committee spends more time watching the games than they do pouring over stats. We haven't looked very good and Rutgers and Minny are pretty bad.
We were losing 14-3 to MSU at the half before the weather came, maybe the committee thinks the weather kept that game close. The Penn State loss could have actually been worse, that was not a contest and we could have lost by 40.
Just keep winning, we have 2 big games remaining wehre we could make significant lepas in the rankings. Beat Wisky and OSU and we're probably going to get a NY6 Bowl.

He's not wrong.
The rankings are a fucking disgrace from about 15-25.

Because they've pulvarized everyone they've played. They're ranked top 5 in S&P.

Not that the lines are the final arbiter, but would be favored on a neutral field against AT LEAST SEVEN of the top 25 teams.
It is just ridiculous. Politics decides these things, pure and simple, and there is a great deal of anti-Michigan feeling out there these days, mostly out of jealousy.
Too many people can see what Harbaugh is building, and they do not like it.
