Chill the Hell Out

Submitted by Decatur Jack on

Guys, I know it sucks that we are 5-2, but seriously, everybody just needs to take a deep breath.

No one is getting fired. This is a very good staff that has tried to make it work with some broken pieces this year. How many people here predicted 8-4 before the season? A lot.

Does no one remember how bad things were during the Rodriguez years? Stop calling this the worst you've ever seen.

Seriously, calm the fuck down.

I will concede this: if Chris Balas was right about Brandon Peters (that he's proven to be a massive bust), then we're fucked. Otherwise, relax.

were touting as "point a minute" dudes?

What's it going to be? Harbuagh's Guys(!) or "But Hoke's Guys(!)"

I'm no fan of Hoke, but Michigan won the last two years with majority of Hoke's recruits, fielded a relatively functional offense, albeit not against average to above average D's.

So, on one hand we have Not Harbaugh Guys, but Harbaugh won with Not Harbaugh Guys; on the other hand we have This Team is Too Young & Hoke Shafted Us On Offense, Wait until Harbaugh Guys.

His QB recruits still can't get on the field.

EDIT: Pfffff

A big ten title and national championship with their 2nd and 3rd string QB. Spare me the cry 9ing about having to play a backup QB. The funny thing is the amount of people who wanted NOM to replace Speight before Speight got hurt. Now that NOM is playing the crying is about how UM lost their starting QB.

I really wish people would quit acting like the Newsome injury happened this year. He’s a non-option for this season, and continually bringing up this bullshit JBB and Ulizio are playing because of his injury is really only relevant to last season. They are playing because they are the only options this season. The end.

Names are starting OL. Last year 5 starting OL were upperclassmen. Yet the OL continues to be bad. I think the division of OL coaching between Drevno and Frey has contributed a lot to the problems around communication. Particularly in picking up stunts where guards and tackles seem lost.

How many of those older players had significant experience or where expected to be lead players? I would only count Hill, Poggi, Perry amd Cole. The rest are either playing siginifcant minutes for the first time, were expected rotational players or struggled previously when playing. The problem is much of the top talent on the team is 1st or 2nd year players getting their first extended playing time.

Especially because most of the people making the "oh they are young but don't have much experience" excuse are the same people saying next year is going to be better...when we have a bunch of young inexperienced "talent" taking over.

Next year's offense is going to be pretty young too -- and maybe even younger -- and if you want an idea of how that's going to go, I think this season is a pretty good indication.

That's not what I'm saying though. I'm saying that there a lot of people saying we are bad this year because we are young -- which is at least partially true.  But a lot of those same people are saying they will be better next season because there is a lot of talent in the freshman class that isn't playing due to redshirting or depth.

So while we might be adding guys like Filiaga, Ruiz, Nico, McCaffrey, Martin to the starting lineup next season that's still a ton of youth and would make us an even younger team next season.

Which means their argument makes no damn sense.  You can't argue that we are bad this year because we are so young, but then will be better next season when we are probably even younger.

Yes. Ulizio doesn't have the natural talent of onwenu and bredeson but by playing he is gaining experience thus developing. Evans hasn't had great blocking on his runs but again he is young and gaining experience thus developing. Is it so difficult to watch a game and enjoy things that are happening even in a loss? I can't remember Michigan going undefeated very often. Is it fun being a miserable fan? I pity you.

This is not a good hot take. A guy getting better and progressing from really bad to still pretty bad does nothing for the program in the big picture. Ulizio was a warm body to fill out a transition recruiting class and provide depth. Unfortunately, RT happens to be in Break Glass It's An Emergency status. He is not a part of any good Michigan offense in the future regardless of if he is getting incrementally better to a level that is still not good enough.

It's not a hot take. It's trying to tell people that coaching continuity is very valuable. If we have a bad year it isn't always because someone is a loser asshole piece of shit who needs to be fired. Maybe MAYBE we had some bad luck with injuries (starting QB, starting LT and our best young WR after losing both our starters to the NFL). Can we collectively let one damn coaching staff get to year 5 before we shit all over everyone and burn the fucking house down?

No one is burning the house down. Harbaugh is not going anywhere. Coaching continuity has value; so does excellent coaching. Whether they are mutually exclusive on the offense right now is debateable, but it's not producing. When you don't move the ball or score in Power5 football, coaches do have to polish up resumes as a result much of the time. Injuries have hurt the offense obviously.

Developing the important guys who are part of hte future for 2018/2019 like Bredeson, Onwenu, DPJ, Black pre-injury, Gentry/McKeon/Wheatley, Long, L. Hill, Hudson, Metellus,Furbush, Gil, Bush, Gary, Solomon, Higdon, Evans etc is important. Also developing some guys who arent playing like Collins, Walker, Filiaga, Ruiz, O. Martin, McCaffrey, Peters etc.

Ulizio is not in this group and if you've watched him play this year it is obvious he will not be a part of the future unless the future is a tire fire. I don't think it is going to be a tire fire. Good kid no doubt, trying hard, but not a quality B1G OT and we fill a hole by playing him but we don't develop anything useful for the future.

I'll give you Ownenu -- I agree there.  But Evans looks worse than he did last season and lost ground to Higdon and Issac, Bredeson looks worse or the same as last season, and Ulizio looks like a stopgap that we hopefully never have to see again.  I mean, he got benched halfway through the season. How can you honestly call that development?

And DPJ has been a little disappointing.  He's a freshman WR though, so I'll give him a pass.  But outside of the punt return, there hasn't been much I've seen that makes me excited about him as a weapon next season.

Ulizio was too young to be out there in the first place. We lost Grant Newsome of course Ulizio is a stop gap. He has had ups and downs. He is learning and gaining experience. DPJ is an 18 year old! You "don't see anything that makes him seem like a weapon"??? I think you're lying to yourself to maintain your negativity which is a very sad situation for you. Maybe you would be more happy as a fan of whatever team is winning? Like Snoop Dogg or something. Just cheer for Bama or USC or LSU or whichever team looks like they might win it all. Then you won't have anything to bitch and moan about like a child.

You're being very un-Dudelike.

You're really using the Newsome injury as an excuse still?  That was game 5 LAST SEASON.

And as far as DPJ goes...I mentioned his ability as a punt returner.  That's a talent, and I acknowledged that.  But as a WR?  He only has 10 catches on the season and has a few bad drops.  We're all well aware of his HS tape and his natural ability, but as far as what we've seen on the field from him this season?  If you had no idea of what he did in HS, I don't think he'd be someone you were very excited about going into next season.

But, I did say I'm not writing him off because of all that potential and because freshman WRs are basically bad.  But if you're going purely off what he's done on the field this season, there's no much to hang your hat on.  Like, what have you seen on the field this season that makes you think he's a weapon as a WR?

i'm hopefull that black and DPJ will be like braylon and breaston.  i see similar talent there.  i hope it can happen next year.

i see little hope in the OL next year.  hopefully, speight can come back.  please teach higdon to block.  i said last year that i thought he was the best in that group.  he breaks a lot of tackles and always seems to fall forward like mike hart.

"Enjoy the process" implies that Michigan is in the process of getting better. We aren't. We are regressing and playing worse every week. There is no evidence whatsoever that this team will be any better next year or even the year after that.

Other programs lose guys and have to play starters as young as us and they don't miss a beat. We had a returning QB this year and he played as bad as the back-up has been playing. Ohio State was young last year. Michigan State is young this year. Georgia is playing a back-up redshirt freshman quarterback and in his first start he won a night game at Notre Dame, who now is a top-10 program.

Enough with the excuses, already. FFS.

...but included with the massive turnover in starters, we are down our #1 QB and our #1 WR add that to the massive hole from what i believe was the '13 or '14 class of OL that Ace discussed earlier this year; 5-2 ain't bad...
