The Arrogance of the Defensive Gameplan

Submitted by George Pickett on

How many fucking times are you going to put McCray on an explosive RB in man coverage? How many times are you going to put Kinnel in man coverage on PSU's best receiver?  How many times are you going to put a two-star safety on an island on 3rd down?

Don Brown is great, but we need to stop acting like every one of our players is capable of executing every assignment. Tonight's gameplan was a product of massive arrogance, and it failed miserably.

This isn't getting any better. Next season will be brutal, schedule wise. At notre dame to start with, then road games at msu and osu along w home games against penn state and wisky. Um yea forgive me if I say that 2018 isn't lookin good especially with our shit team and no qb...

I just watched the defending superbowl champions give up 42 points right after pundits were talking about 16-0 was possible.  The only difference between pro and college is that any given sunday can happen on any given saturday.  PSU had just the right talent and circumstances to drub our defense.  Its part of football in that you will get your ass handed to you and look bad in receiving it.  We are angry and want to fire everyone.

We are a young team.  We were on the road vs. the #2 team in the nation.  We had a back up Qb in the game.  Our offense has struggled all year.  What exactly did you expect?  To call the defensive gameplan "arrogant" is ridiculous.

Michigan was in the Union, man. Not the home of terrorist Pickett.

Welcome to the 21st century, it's quite nice here.

You're so full of anger, it's not shocking you support the rebels. Maybe you should join Ole Miss' bandwagon.

I just don't understand how you can only have 1 penalty over the entire course of the game. Don't get me wrong...i'm not saying that we deserved to win the game but that is just rediculous.

I don't know but I always seem to have the same feeling.  We go into a game that we as fans want to desperately win.  We lose in either hearbreaking or full on tank mode fashion, like tonight.  Then the players and coaches all talk about moving forward and beating a cupcake the following week.  And we do beat said cupcake in resounding fashion.  A few more wins against lesser teams follow.  And then it all culminates in yet another loss against an equal or higher ranked foe.

I'm rambling.  I want to win games like this every once in a while.  Tough road games where the odds are stacked against us.  Games that change fortunes for the better for a season or two, sort of like what happened to PSU.  Fuck, when is our blind squirrel gonna find a nut?!?!

you gotta give some credit to PSU for exposing the matchups that led to points. What is arrogant about relying on a defense that, up to today, has played really well?

Yeah our defense had a bad game, and the coaches didn't always make the best calls.

But that doesn't mean we should get all emotional and negative. We lost tonight. Deal with it. Work to get better.

Nothing to be gained by going all negative and hostile and freaking out.

OP you’re a fucking moron. You do realize you can’t just produce extra people out of thin air for the sake of matchups. If you don’t have the personnel then you can’t adequately cover everyone. Arrogance has nothing to do with it—other than the arrogance of your post which is based on almost no knowledge or common sense whatsoever.

This is a silly statement! There are plenty of schemes you can run in order to not put your players in unfavorable matchups. Lavert Hill should’ve shadowed Hamilton all over the field. Hudson is your best running LB/S. He should’ve been primarily on Barkley in this matchup. If all else fails, run zone coverage to share responsibility in covering good talent.

all of you champs would live in a cardboard box in the gutter.

Drunk football fans, unsurprisingly, would be the *last* people on earth you'd ever want to allow having a say in anything of relevance.

Ji Harbaugh is not the answer.  The lamest of coaches are out coaching him on a weekly basis.  Harbaugh is a good Catholic man, but not a very good MICHIGAN football coach.  Michigan needs to move in a different direction, sooner than later.

Michigan football needs a football coach and jim Harbaugh is not the answer.  Michigan fans must speak out to force the university to make a coaching change.  Harbaugh needs to go.

When you ignore the obvious, then you are in trouble.  Anyone who thinks Harbaugh is the answer will be dreaming the rest of their life.

Harbaugh and his staff need to go.
