Purdue Responds to Locker Room Criticisms
Purdue released an official statement on the recent criticisms of its locker room by Harbaugh:
Purdue regards the welfare of all student-athletes as its No. 1 priority. We would fully support a conversation regarding a conference-wide set of guidelines for visiting football team accommodations because we have experienced less-than-ideal conditions on the road. There IS no place for gamesmanship when it comes to player care and safety.
The after-the-fact concerns expressed by Michigan are somewhat surprising because a member of its football staff conducted a walk-thru of our facilities with our athletics department staff at Ross-Ade Stadium on July 18.
Furthermore, to help teams prepare in advance, our visiting team manual highlights in bold type "there is no air conditioning in the (visiting) locker room," with accompanying Purdue Athletics staff contact information about how to request preferred temporary accommodations. We did not receive any such request.
Basic x-ray is available within our athletic footprint and more-sophisticated capabilities are located two blocks away, similar to the arrangements at many other schools. Our sports medicine staff members, in fact, have received numerous compliments from their Michigan counterparts regarding the care they received at Purdue.
From the sounds of other Purdue blogs, and writers. There are several older athletic and non-athletic facilities on Purdue's campus that do not have permanent A/C installed. Purdue instead opts the use temporary units/chillers during the warmer months the facilities are being used, and removes them during the fall. It seems strange/idiotic that a school with resources like Purdue does not just do a campus-wide upgrade of all their facilities.

The rest is just cya talk. Bet they end up with AC in the visitors locker room within the next couple years, and before Michigan returns.

is there no air conditioning?? this memo fails to adress the main issue..Why would a nnyone go to a school wiith such backward facilities?

I'm not sure whether this has been covered already but does anyone know about the amenities for our visiting team locker rooms?
I assume that we actually do have A/C and more than two toilets ... but I'd be curious to see a compare/contrast between our facilities versus Purdue's.

Fuck you purdue.

it was 92 degrees. You put 85 football players in a cramped room, it might get a little warm. They didn't think about brining in some temporary A/C, or just didn't want to?

I think we are all in agreement that the A/C issue is crazy, but at least that would have been easily fixed with portable units.
What would have happened at the walk through if the person said we need more urinals? Would they have brought in portables for that? Even if they did, how is a football player in pads or whatever going to fit in one of those? Where would they put it?

But couldn't they have brought in portable trailers? I'm sure they have locker versions

Kill the fucking things around your resort. Simple.

- Add to the no swimming sign a "danger alligators" sign
- Don't put out chairs in the sand where there is no swimming sign, creatinga beach like affect
- Rope off the water
- Trap the alligators
You know "stuff"

Summary of Purdue's response:
"We knew our visiting locker room was going to be a sauna, but since we mentioned it in a pamplet, it's a on the visiting team to ensure our facilities meet their needs."
Just mindblowing idiocy. Harbaugh pissed someone in their AD off (Brohm would be my guess) and they decided they needed to come up with a response that pinned the blame on UM to placate said person's ego. And, of course, they just dig themselves into a deeper hole.

From a DetNews article: " 'This is no different than the facility I think I saw when I was there in 1986,' Harbaugh said, referring to his time as a Michigan player. 'I’m not putting this on Purdue. This is league-wide. It needs to be addressed by the league, needs to be addressed by the commissioner and we’re going to lead the way.' " http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/wolverines/2017/09/25/harbaugh-criticizes-purdue-locker-room-conditions/105983330/
And I can imagine Purdue's response: "Coach Harbaugh has known about the state of the facilities since 1986, but oddly, he is only now expressing dissatisfaction about it."

Why would the visiting team need to request portable A/C units on a day with predicted temperatures in excess of 90 degrees?
September 26th, 2017 at 10:50 AM ^
did Purdue even offer misting machines along the sideline on Saturday?
Look, the coach is looking at creating a level playing field for visiting facilities. I mean no school should have an advantage over their opponent in terms of basic comfort and security, health and welfare. I mean the coach is right about this.
This should be a conference initiative through the commissioner's office. I mean Delany could fund this on his own from the raise he got last year.
I mean, to respond to Purdue directly, the implication is that Michigan should have demanded that it provide ac units and x-ray machines in advance and at whose expense? What about pit toiiets should they have asked for those so guys could relieve themselves before entering the stadium?
September 26th, 2017 at 3:19 PM ^
Does anybody know what the "temporary accomodations" are that Purdue provides to teams that request them? Is it a different space or some kind of temporary air conditioning?
September 26th, 2017 at 2:04 PM ^
and still screw up heating, ventilation and air-conditioning in such prolific fashion?
Doesn't make any sense.
Purdon't do HVAC?

Wasn't worth wasting time even discussing. I was wrong. What a bunch of clowns. They also released the statement after it was written using a manual typewriter. No electricity in that building. Even though there was a walkthrough done previously. What a joke.

Why is Michigan the first to make a big deal about it???
September 26th, 2017 at 3:51 PM ^
You can't win against Michigan just by trying to bake them in the visitor's locker room, then coming up with lame excuses afterwards. You need to delay the team's entry into the stadium with a nonsense issue disguissed in a blanket of security or safety, then pretend you didn't know about it.
