OT: Leonard Fournette says the NFL is easy, thanks to playing in the SEC

Submitted by WichitanWolverine on

The quote: "It's a lot slower than I really thought. That's how I've been since I first got into the NFL. A lot of people were like, 'It's going to be fast.' But by me playing in the SEC, that kind of helped me a lot. I think, to me, it was really easy."

Fournette rushed 9 times for 31 yards and a TD in their preseason win over New England.

So this confirms SEC > NFL.

That is so terrible. I'm sorry but what an idiot. Fournette had like minimum 3 yards, probably 4 to make a move and get out of that situation with a white jersey coming right at him. Instead he runs straight ahead basically and gets smoked. Litterally laughing out loud right now. Not a lot of brains or skill there!

He's going to regret saying that.  I forsee a lot of "welcome to the NFL, rookie" hits in the next few games.  Also, we'll see how slow it is for him when he has to pick up a full speed NFL zone blitzer.

SEC translation

Jim Bob:  M R ducks

Jim John:  M R not ducks

Jim Bob:  O S A R  ducks

Jim John: L I B...M R  ducks!

English translation

Them are ducks

Them are not ducks

Oh yes they are ducks

Well I'll be

Them are ducks!

I'm sure this is going to turn into pile on Fournette thing, but the context of his response was about the transition from college to the NFL. Of course, the nature of these things is that it will constantly be thrown in his face if he struggles and completely forgotten if he comes out and runs for 1500 yards. Such is the nature of these things.

Fournette may end up being a great RB in the League.  But to play in one PREASEASON game and then make a statement like that.  Veterans were already going to be gunning for him.  Now he's put a greater target on himself.  Not smart.  Hope he gets blasted in his first official game.  Oh and screw the sec.

Yeah not sure I remember him getting much done to help his team beat the only perennial program in said conference. Even at 16 years old I could've handled admitting that I did well against the majority of the SEC that actually aint shit. However there was the Tide and they whooped my ass every time. Is this conference superior in anything else than speed? Not even flocking close. So many people are so full of themselves, where they've came from, what they've done, that I think they actually believe it. It's like if they admit a fault then everything comes crumbling down or it makes them lesser of a man. I'll take a sip of my coors light to those weak minds!! Happy Saturday and 3 more weeks baby!!

... He hit the hole hard, and was playing fast, but it looked more like impatience than recognition. He also looked like a load to take down, but was really bad at avoiding big hits. If he continues to run like that he'll be injured often and have a short career. Needs to slow down a little and learn to deflect some of those hits vs. Taking them head on.

I think that's his point.

And people do hype the NFL up, but when you have the physical traits Fournette does, you're not afraid of grown men and the speed of an NFL preseason games is probably a lot like an SEC game if we're being honest with ourselves.

Now let's see what he says in meaningful NFL games...my guess is things get just a liiiiiittle faster. With that said, he's a beast in terms of physical traits - there isn't too much he's going to see that he's ill-equipped to handle. But that doesn't mean he's going to be a great RB or the Jags are going to be any good with him at RB.

Reading comprehension fails you, troll. 1. Yes the SEC is big boy football and a SEC game is probably a lot like the NFL 2. I never said the B1G or ACC wasn't the exact same. If you think that Michigan/OSU game wasn't athletes everywhere like a top SEC game you're smoking crack. 3. I've BEEN to multiple big time SEC games and it is another level defensively. But again big time B1G or ACC football is as well. I went to Louisville v. Clemson last year and that was no different than an SEC or B1G game. It's possible to acknowledge the SEC without being Paul Feinbaum or however you spell his name.

...against Bama's pro defense.

Now, LSU's passing game is garbage so it allowed Bama to tee off on the run but an elite top-3 RB in the country should've fared better than 31 yards on 19 carries (which is 1.6 ypc). Yikes.

And he didn't do much better the following year at home: 35 yards on 17 carries (which is 2.1 ypc).

Fournette? Oh yeah that guy who got his ass stonewalled at the LOS every time he went against Alabama. He's going to face far tougher defenses in the NFL than he ever faced in college. He ought to just shut his fucking mouth and go to work.

After all this ridiculous talk, now he's HURT! Lol. It's not a serious injury so I don't feel bad about laughing, but I'm glad the SEC prepared him to be underachieving damaged goods.
