OSU RS SR starting DT Michael Hill suspended indefinitely

Submitted by corundum on
Early signs are pointing to allegedly smoking the pots. Will be interesting to see how long of a suspension he serves. He started all 13 games last season and was expected to at the very least split time with Tracy Sprinkle this coming season.

He won't sit for more than one game. It's just a headline grabber to suspend a guy until further notice; once the season comes around and no one is paying attention he will be back on the field.

Can anyone explain this versus McGary having to sit out a year? Seems like we hear about this pretty often but I've only seen McGary's penalty applied in his case.

The difference is McGary played for MICHIGAN not OSU, MSU or any of the SEC schools.  Had he chosen his school better he could've suited up baked out of his mind and nobody would care.  But alas, he did not.  He chose to attend Michigan and the NCAA is pretty clear on that one:

Penalty for smoking pot:

Michigan: Lifetime ban.  Forfeit 8 scholarships and two year bowl ban.

All other schools: Taco Bell baby!!!

McGary failed an NCAA drug test that players had to take during the postseason. The penalty for failing one of those is a year suspension. I have never heard of another player failing because it isn't random.

The random drug testing done during the season isn't given by the NCAA and has lesser penalties.

My guess, knowing nothing else about the person, would be that "Tracy Sprinkle" is the name of a stripper working the pole.  (Or, with apologies to Tom Waits - and echoing Walter Sobchak's comment - a donut.  Because all the donuts have names that sound like prostitutes.)

in comparison to other crimes. Da'shawn Hand got a DUI and won't be suspended a game. DUIs kill people. But a man smokes pot and it's like he robbed someone.

I know we don't know for sure what this guy did, but I'm still astounded how severe the penalties are for smoking weed compared to every other crime you see emerge in CFB

If this guy just failed a drug test or got a possession charge I would guess he misses 0 seconds of playing time.

Now if he is caught on camera with a j in his mouth executing another man with his gang friends then he may miss the opener. Or at least a half of it.

I think Hill was the starting NT for the Buckeyes. He had 21 total tackles last year, only 9 solo - 2% of Ohio State's tackles last fall.

At 6'3" and 305 lbs. seems he was pretty much "line filler" to run around and not through.

I'm just not convinced that losing 2% of your tiotal team tackling power is reason to panic (or celebrate).

This is what happens when your recruiting classes are consecutively ranked no. 3, 7, 4 and 2 over the last 4 years. You simply don't have talent or depth problems.

OSU Depth Chart

Nose tackle: Michael Hill (rSr); Robert Landers (rSo); Davon Hamilton (rSo); Dylan Thompson (rJr)

Defensive tackle: Dre'Mont Jones (rSo) OR Tracy Sprinkle (rSr); Jashon Cornell (rSo); Malik Barrow (rFr)

Defensive end: Tyquan Lewis (rSr); Nick Bosa (So); Darius Slade (rJr)
