He was fun to watch and that 2008 class had some of my favorite Michigan players in Mike Martin and Roy Roundtree.
Agree with the sentiment...strongly disagree with the justification.
Who cares if he was fun to watch...and at a certain point the "kids make mistakes" excuse wears out.
People just shouldn't rip on the maturity of young people as if it's not common to make mistakes. And if someone like Forcier makes more than some mistakes...I still don't know why you'd rip him versus hope or help him get help.
I was going to ask where "baters gonna bate" is, but that picture is probably NSFW.
...and suddenly, "History Of The World, Part I" comes to mind.
"Ah, but the servant waits while the master baits"
Marcus Vindictus was a really good character, especially because he defeated the cretins at Sparta......errr, the Spartans at Crete.
I shake it off, I shake it off.
Those who can't do, teach (unless you're Jim Harbaugh). The majority of guys that are considered QB gurus like George Whitfield, Steve Clarkson, etc never had any success actually playing the game. Still plenty of ways to be productive in football without actually playing.
Hell, even Nick Sheridan is already a P5 QB coach and he's only 28. (Things I'd never thought I'd say for $500, Alex)
HOT TAKE: the 2009 ND win was better than 2011. Everyone loves the UTL game because of the comeback and Brady Hoke going for the win, but watching Forcier win that game as a true freshman was pretty incredible, and were some of the first flashes of how the Rodriguez offense could work.
*Flashes of how the Rodriguez offense could work against terrible defenses.
That game was awesome don't get me wrong, but that Notre Dame defense sucked. Their only quality win that year was scraping by a 6-7 MSU team.
Tate was the perfect QB for RR's offense. With him at the helm, and Denard used in the same fashion as say Percy Harvin, it's quite likely that RR would have had a longer, more successful term as head coach. That would have resulted in an unknown result as far as RR's teams, but it certainly would have thrown off the eventual timeline that resulted in the perfect storm of JH returning to AA. Watch his tape, he is that rare freshman that can succeed at a high level. And when you're done making fun of the kid, compare his moxie and skill to WS last year. It's not a stretch to say that a freshman Tate could have taken last year;s team to the CF Playoffs.
Watch the tape, the kid had ice in his veins..very mobile and a very good passer. Now look at WS with his deer in the headlights look.
As a freshman, Tate had comparable stats on a much worse team. It was stated above that Tate didn't do well against good defenses. Well, WS wet the bed against Iowa, OSU, and FSU, and his yardage and completion % were erratic on a game by game basis. Tate had the "it' factor, the gunslinger mentality. WS screams game manager, and a game manager who throws a pick 6 when his defense is pitching a shutout isn't worth very much. As far as his injury, we'll never know, although I'd assume that JH would not play a guy who can't make the majority of passes.
Conveniently left out how he threw a GREAT game-winning TD pass against #8 Wisconsin for our first top-10 win in 8 years.
Yes, it was a spot on throw...for the game, he had 219 yards, 1TD and 1 INT...about a 62% completion rating...Less than you wouls expect out of a guy whose been on campus 3 years, and in the JH system for over a year......in comparison to an 18 year old freshman.WS's performance can best be described in that game as pedestrian
"As far as his injury, we'll never know, although I'd assume that JH would not play a guy who can't make the majority of passes."
How does this make any sense at all? Okay, so Harbaugh decides not to play him because he's too injured to 'make the majority of passes', then who does he play? O'Korn? Because he looked so spectacular at Iowa? Morris? Seriously, what other option was there?
I mean, call it an indictment of the other options rather than an endorsement of Speight if you need to, but that doesn't change the underlying assumption that Speight's play was impacted by injury.
OT, behind by 7, 4th and goal, in Columbus against the #2 team, with 3 first round draft picks in their secondary, two more barreling down to sack him (against not first round picks), playing on half a shoulder...
He also threw a pick 6, and fumbled the snap when UM was about to score a TD and put the Bucks in the hole big time...If memory serves me, OSU's offense was shut out for a full 3 quarters....and their first two TD's were as a direct result of WS throwing a pick....Lol, ice?..
There were 4 minutes left in the half with Michigan pinned at the 6 yard line when he threw the pick 6 (a tipped ball when facing an unblocked blitzer, his coaches having given him a slow developing play out of his end zone, but a very bad play nonetheless). Michigan was up 3-0 and would have been happy to go to the half up 3. On the very next drive after the pick, with the crowd going crazy, he shut the entire stadium up with a touchdown just before the half. Michigan up by 3.
The fumbled snap on the goal line was a terrible play as well, with Michigan lookig to go up by 10. But the defense, Urban Meyer and Jordan Glasgow bailed him out, stuffing thr offense and fake punt attempt the very next drive. Speight threw a TD pass a few moments later and Michigan was up by 10.
The pick to the LB really hurt them.
But you're talking performance under pressure toughboy, and that OT td pass in Columbus was the best we've seen from a Michigan qb in a decade.
Oddly enough, WS threw for 219 yards, the exact same as against Whisky..I started the comparison between the two in a good natured way, figuring many did not remember the positives of Tate's brief stint at Michigan. However, you have chosen to defend WS's attributes as a starting QB, as far as talent and moxie. I firmly believe that JH chose WS because he was the safest pick, low risk, and figured his defense would carry the team. Peters and O'Korn have more natural ability, but they also had the lower floor as of last year. WS is an average QB, and an average QB with a great defense will get you 10 wins. He has severe limitations to his game, and the close ups during games show a guy that looks scared. He was the best choice to start, considering the downside to starting Peters or O'Korn, but he was exposed in the toughest games. When you don't have a go to running attack, you have to have a playmaker at QB....WS is not a playmaker, sorry bro. BTW, a capable QB would have eaten the ball and taken the safety, thats what I expect from a third year guy.
Tom Brady threw a pick 6 in the Super Bowl bro, he's the best quarterback of all time bro. Is that what you expect of a 17 year guy?
You're talking about moxie bro, that's the play I just linked. Do you even lift?
WS is 22, and in a college program for 3 years....your Brady comparison is ridiculous at best...Do I lift? I think you've gotten off topic. BTW, WS looked like a tool jumping around the end zone pounding his chest.
You didn't follow - I was saying Brady was a 17 year guy and can throw a pick 6, even as the best qb ever it happens.
Anyway, I think your last comment is sufficient to reveal you as a troll.
We can agree to disagree on WS, no harm in that...bottom line is scoreboard, Brady came back and won the game. At that point of the game, with that field position, WS should have had the awareness to take the sack. He thought he could get the ball out before he got hit, and he was wrong. Was it the right play call?..debatable..was there a blown blocking assignment?..I'd say yes. Bottom line, WS tried to be a playmaker, and he isn't a playmaker.
Sorry if you don't appreciate my comments. Feel free to go on chatting about max speed cars and draftageddon. Or join in and hype WS while you get ready for bed in your number 3 jersey.
I agree, but I grudgingly feel that Harbaugh's decision to tie the game at that point was the right one. For an instant though, I wanted to ride with Speight.
I thought Tate was a hugely talented kid who would have been a perfect fit for a variety of spread offenses, and I was sorry to see him leave the program.
That said, the abuse that's hurled in Speight's direction is right in keeping with the shit that was piled on John Navarre by classless assclowns who pretended to be Michigan fans. I honestly don't know how Navarre had the self-discipline to keep from punching the daylights out of the idiots that would get in his face.
It was that simple, huh?
We should have just hired Double-D as our coach.
I would have settled for hiring just a single D Coordinator who knew what he was doing...
Reading about his slide was one of the toughest parts of Three And Out. Hope coaching is a fulfilling pursuit for him.
So here's a poem:
Tate, Tate
Notre Dame was great.
Everything else
Too little, too late.
I liked his "Can Do" attitude. Follow through was a little weak though.
It would have been cool to see Tate at QB, Denard at H Back, and Devin at WR. #Playmakers
Man, the last two lines of that poem sucked. Don't quit your day job...
I like how people think Denard shouldn't have been a QB when he was our last QB to beat osu.
And by your logic, Brady Hoke was the last coach to beat OSU
Is that why he's got more career passing yards than Harbaugh, Tom Brady and Brian Griese?
