First, you are assuming that Beilein wanted both of them, and Warde decided against a pay raise.  Unless you are either Beilein or Warde, you have no idea that to be true.  Neither does Sam Webb.

Second, you are assuming that increased salary that would have kept them here was reasonable.  What if they were asking for 2 million

Third, you are assuming that Sam Webb knows what he is talking about.  He could be just guessing.

I am fairly certain that if Beilein really wanted either one and their demands were reasonable, Warde would not have turned down Beilein.  From what I know, Warde has utmost respect for Beilein (I worked with Warde at UConn and talked to him after taking the job at UM).

It is 100% accurate that this isn't about money. Michigan and Warde Manuel are doing/have done everything they can to keep him. Including offer more money.

I wouldn't be shocked of Donlon confirms this if he does leave (sounds like it's close to official) and gets a chance to speak on it.

UPDATE:

Per Webb they tried to increase his salary, not sure by how much though. Also sounds like he's gone anyways.

This isn't good.

It would be embarrrassing if Donlon wasn't from the Chicago area and wasn't really good friends with Collins. But both are true. I doubt we were unwilling to increase his salary to keep him. Sometimes people just want a different situation. It definitely hurts because we were on our way to becoming a competent defensive team. JB will have to look for another assistant to emphasize that end of the floor.

I can live with the fact that even after the Final Four run this program still can't recruit at an elite level, but I don't think it's too much to ask to not lose coaches to Butler and Northwestern.

Well we need a big man coach and a defensive coordinator.

May have to look at top assistants from teams with fire head coaches. Georgetown, NC State, Indiana, etc.

Or maybe you really can pull one of those head coaches to sit on the sideline for a year until he gets his next gig after the season. They have no reason to financially, but you may be able to pull a Jedd Fisch type situation for a year or two. It's definitely worth a shot.
